Also don’t buy the “to sign early next week”. If he was signing for definite he’d have signed already and be announced. Is there some football law that players can’t be registered over the weekend? Or do our camera guys doing the fancy videos have weekends off?

It will always have more impact on a week-day. People walk their dogs and play golf at weekends (well I do, but you get the point...). There’s always a stage where details have to be finalised and arrangements made. So there’s an inevitable gap between ‘definitely signing’ and ‘signed already’.

This lad is the big one for me. A real statement. It would excite me more than all the others put together. Then we can get McBurnie as well and I’ll spontaneously combust.

Another thing to add is that a ITK with a half decent track record very confidently announced on Thursday that the Morpay deal has finally been sorted/ agreed by all parties. Apparently we are waiting on a few minor formalities and the deal will be announce either Monday or Tuesday next week.
It’s significant though that there’s been no further update from RC since he said that the deal has hit a snag due to agent demands.

I would have added that, but RC is the only ITK I place any faith in. If something concrete had materialised I think he’d have told us by now. He seems very close to Wilder’s inner circle. I can’t recall the other guy ever telling us anything completely unknown and it eventually coming to pass..

Surely would have stayed with the squad regardless if he wasn’t leaving for another club. The worry for us is that we have opened the door for someone else. Bournemouth for example are rumoured to be possibly losing Wilson despite the new contract which as we found with Brooks means sweet FA and Maupay fits their sort of recruitment.

It also dovetails, of course, with Tufty’s ‘deep in negotiations with four or five’. Realistically, Maupay has been linked heavily right from day one. He is certain to be one of those four or five, I believe.

To be fair he isn’t an unproven player being offered an opportunity to play first team football, he’s a highly sought after talent who has already bagged for fun in the second tier.

His Agent is doing his job, touting him to managers at other clubs and holding out for the best deal for his Client (and sadly, himself). This is how transfers work at the top.

If Maupay really wanted the move to Sheff Utd he’d have pushed it through with his Agent. I suspect there are other more fashionable (and higher paying) clubs who he’d rather join and thus, is happy to let his Agent do his work. I’m pretty sure Wilder won’t be used as a pawn and will move on quickly.

I suggested on another post that Maupay never felt like a Sheff Utd type signing and I stick by it. I just don’t see us pulling this one off.
