I'll stand to be corrected but....

Iliman is NOT eligible for Senegal in the January 2023 African Nations Championship in Algeria.

He'll be back at The Lane during that tournament.

He's not a first choice for Senegal, and they'll probably get knocked out in the group stage, so I reckon he'll just be doing a bit of light training in the sunshine and living in a posh hotel for 3 weeks 'til he has to come home. No alcohol so he can't get wrecked. Should come back nice and rested......
You are right about him not being a first choice for Senegal so far, but that could change given his current form.

Looking at the strength of their squad I very much doubt they`ll be knocked out in the group stage.

Why’s that Phil?
My understanding is that the African Nations Championship (ie not the completely different African Cup Of Nations) is only for players playing in home leagues. So, to play in that tournament for Senegal, you have to be playing in Senegal, not the EFL.

As I said, happy to be corrected.

Ah, thanks. Apologies for the lazy non spot of the difference!

Senegal are staying in a handball hall that had accommodation built in the style of the olympic villages, it's a bit of a shithole.

Nice to see the hosts are maintaining their levels of discrimination. Could they have mistaken the Senegalese contingent for a bunch of cleaners press ganged in to shovel you know what?

I'm guessing it was down to cost, Australia are doing similar but in a slightly better facility.

Would have thought all participating squads would have received an equal standard of accommodation in hotels.

Australia for example have chosen an athletes accommodation rather than a hotel, I’d expect it’s the manager/FA’s choice coupled with the financial constraints of each FA.

Most teams are in swanky hotels, some are in average hotels and some are in resorts. Then there are 3 that have either chosen or been forced to have less salubrious accommodation.

This is the first I've realised that the World Cup overlaps the championship! I assumed that the World Cup finished before the championship started up again, that's crazy. I presume they think that championship teams with any international players will likely be knocked out by the time the championship starts up again, but it's not impossible that Senegal could go far, they've got some decent players.

The writer thinks Oli McBurnie might get called up for Scotland during the WC break.................he's not upto speed with Oli's plans is he.

Players, like Egan for example really do need a break. He should tell his international boss that he needs a rest, but Enda would benefit from improving his match fitness after a lengthy lay off.

Berge is injured. Needs rehab at home. Two fingers for his international manager. Well deserved after his abuse of the club and the player!

George Baldock is nails. Plus his international status is fairly new.

Bit of a wanker post.

Plenty of hotels for them to use, if they had chosen them. Perhaps they wanted to be on site of one of the training grounds, as it's right next to Duhail Stadium.

The Qataris don't choose where teams stay, the FAs do. England are staying next to a Souk, Spain and Argentina in university accommodation... bit of a weird choice considering the options available to them.

Where's the discrimination for Spain?

got to thank BobbyDavison'sDebut for bringing it to my attention on the world cup thread. had a look & was right Ndiaye not even in the world cup squad

admittedly i dont have in depth knowledge of Senegal squad bar 1 played in England or major European clubs so really only know 6-7 of the squad. but how on earth does Ndiaye not make the world cup squad. selfishly its brilliant for us. he gets a rest & isnt put in shop window for January.

but for liman if he's not the best player in championship currently he's very close. & yet he's not deemed good enough. from what ive seen of him just cant believe he is best case scenario the 9th best attacker that Senegal have

To be fair that's not a bad squad and if Illiman is at best their 9th best striker they have a chance to go deep in the tournament (England in quarters?)

But great news for us!
