Name these Blades

[Cyprus Blade]

A really tough one and I don't know the answer - this is of players from our "great" era relaxing before a game. I don't have a date and there were no clues in the article. I would love to know who they are and when it was taken. If we can't answer it here I suspect the answer lies buried with our ancestors.

Never heard of George Richardson and Dick Johnson. Will look up. Bill Brelsford is deffo second right. He was never as tall as the guy in the middle. Bill is second from right back row in the below 1915 photo. He became a trainer at the club in the 1920s

George William Richard Richardson (1899 – November 1963) was an English footballer who made 34 appearances in the Football League playing for Lincoln City, Sheffield United andBournemouth & Boscombe Athletic. He played as a left half.[1] He also played in the Midland League for Lincoln, and in non-league football for Boston Town. 1921–1923 Sheffield United 13 appearances.

Just looked in Clareborough's books. There is no Dick (or Richard) Johnson who played for us so Harry Johnson is second from left in the photo. His dad (also Harry) was one of the trainers at the time so it is possible that young Harry had the nickname "Dick" to avoid confusion? Looked in 1921-22 photo and George Richardson looks like the tall chap in the middle, his cap hiding his curly hair. I think the photo was taken before the 1923 FA Cup semi as in these days the Blades often go to the seaside for training before a big cup match. Richardson didnt play in the semi, I think he was a reserve as he played in a league match before the cup tie and in two league matches after.

The faces in the 1936-37 squad photo are too small for me to identify the players in your photo. I think I am right about George Jones and Duggie Livingstone

As soon as he showed promise, he was sold to Arsenal.

Mickey Hazard never played for the Blades. Alan Whittle retired long before the photo was taken. The Villa player on the left is the late Gary Birch (never played for the Blades). John Bumstead is the other Chelsea player. Simon Stainrod is the only ex-Blade in the photo
