Pete, I respect your opinions expressed in your post, but they are opinions not facts. Of course what I post is opinion and often guesswork. I'm not Sunjihi, nor do I work in the Ticket Office. Do I need to qualify everything I say with ' these are opinions and guesswork'? Maybe I should make it easier and state when my posts are facts instead, less typing!!

The main difference for me was that Nigel Clough has absolute free reign to sign a ridiculous amount of players, mould the team into exactly to one he wanted and get them to play exactly how he liked.

He got to spend more money on a left back than Adkins has been given for an entire season.

He was allowed a storming January while Adkins got a dry January.

Adkins has spent his entire season wiping his nose with Clough's very expensive used tissues.

You aren't talking Arabic, I understand where you're coming from the vast majority of the time, I just disagree with you.

You seem upset when people disagree and like Barney, often tell them they "misunderstand" you or "have gone off on a tangent".

Like everyone else it's speculation based on your view of the club. Unless his contract is made public or they issue a joint statement we'll never know the truth.

Sean, is there a way to calculate the financial effect of Adkins staying with us for another year,i.e. estimate the budget he would have at his disposal? Maybe estimate his player wage budget, assume a couple of modest transfer fees, guess how many players will be signed on 2/3 year contracts, his coaching and scout teams' wages etc etc. Any new manager would have the same budget I know.

As I write I know it's all guessswork but the point is that the incumbent manager has a lot of money to spend in the coming year and with all the new signings required his ability to judge players is vital as we have to commit to more than the usual number of new players' contracts which don't go away.

If the Board have lost some confidence in Adkins having worked with him for 10 months it is a big decision to keep him as well as a big decision to sack him at goodness knows what cost in contract settlements for all the Adkins men.

I thought Clough's first full season was a disappointment given he'd set a baseline in the league from the half season before. We had a team that looked like it could push for automatics – we never looked like that, and despite being allowed to significantly add to the playing squad we ultimately just made the playoffs and went out spectacularly.

Adkins by his own admission has failed to reach the targets set, but I think there are mitigating circumstances that at least should have resulted in giving him the same time we gave Clough. I don't normally enjoy Alan Biggs's articles in the Star but his comment piece yesterday was generally spot on.

Yes, if it's all going poorly in December then fair enough time to probably pull the trigger. We're not there yet. Getting rid in the summer puts the same process a year again back into place:
– players retained/released before any assessment given
– a full reassessment of the rest of the squad (with no signings till this is done)
– identifying and approaching players months after the other teams in our division

...and so on. We might happen to stumble across someone that cracks the formula for that under such circumstances, but frankly it's a total lottery.

Despite the disappointment of last season, I was willing to give Clough the benefit of the doubt till Christmas. That was in spite of the questionable recruitment and issues in the season – I thought he would learn from the season and adjust things accordingly. Likewise I think Adkins is better placed now to make the adjustments we need than he was when he arrives last summer.

No massive loss for me, not been at all impressed with him this season. Spent a relative shit ton of money on some shocking signings and have us playing some of the worst football since I've been going. I appreciate the need for continuity but he's failed on every level with a very capable set of tools this year.

Allowing Adkins to leave would be akin to a Blade leaving at half time. Just for its novelty value, why not stick with our manager for a change. IMO Adkn is the best hope of us getting promotion next year season

Let's say that ten people know that Adkins is leaving by mutual consent.

One of them posts here that "A person is leaving by mutual consent". The list of possible leakers remains at ten.

Let's say he'd posted "Adkins is leaving by mutual consent". How could you eliminate any of the ten ITKers from that extra information?

Conversely:

Let's say ten people know Adkins is leaving. But only 9 of them know the extra information - that it's by mutual consent and not quitting or being sacked. Now the list of possible leakers is reduced by the OP, and that's the opposite of the intent of his vague info.

The final possibility:

X people know that someone at the club is leaving by mutual consent, but not who's leaving. But not only does that seem a really weird scenario, it also makes the OP kind of pointless.

Conclusion:

OP might as well tell us who he's talking about. Learn to hide your tracks better in future.

Using that then;

Let's say 10 people know someone is leaving by mutual consent but only 1 knows it's Adkins, if SJH comes spouting off that it's Adkins that is leaving, he's effectively found himself out.

Conversely, if 9 people know Adkins is leaving by mutual consent and there's 1 that doesn't know it's Adkins, he has effectively covered his tracks as he doesn't explicitly mention Adkins.

Whilst I agree we could do a lot worse than Wilder, whilst we continue to run the club this way, I have no confidence in any manager being a success. Adkins was a very good manager on paper but he couldn’t do it with someone elses squad and little room for manoeuvre in the market and if Sunjihi is right, will get the chop for that. There’s nowt to say it will be any different for Wilder or any other mug who’s daft enough to take this job.

Looking at his previous posts, he has only been consistent with team selections, which y'know, isn't rocket science. Most of us could do a pretty decent stab at guessing week on week and get it right.

He has given very little actual information over his 40-some posts and sometimes it's actually been plain wrong. For instance, he got the club Murphy was going to wrong. And several players who were coming in that never materialised. As said earlier, it would be mad to sack Adkins at the end of the season. Wouldn't be surprised if it happened, mind. But yeah. Troll thread, innit lads.

The team news wasn’t guesswork. Knowing about the change to 352 before it happened and then knowing about Collins being injured the week after, knowing DCL would be chucked in when he was etc. no way could someone guess all that. He definitely had info on that. Doesn’t necessarily mean he’s correct about this though. I certainly hope not.
