I don't think CW is going to run a club based on some user's suggestions from a football forum.

Madine (if he signs) will be brought in to do a job. I would be amazed if CW has identified that as scoring goals - he will be brought in to cause mayhem in the box which will enable our attacking players to be more successful.

In a nutshell, we are absolutely useless in the air up front and GM will change that. We will be a bigger threat from corners, free kicks and goal kicks when Madine is on the pitch. I will be amazed if Madine starts more that half a dozen games - he is being brought in to provided another dynamic from the bench.

Give the lad and CW a chance to try it out.

It's not as though we've just paid out a permanent £6m transfer free ffs.

Short term solution could lead to a long term gain.

I for one will welcome him to see if he can do what he is being brought in for.

To add, I don't think Madine will be the only forward that we bring in either.

Oh dear some first class fuck wits
You are one of many poor chaps on here who place importance on what happens in the Sheffield derby as if life and death depends on it. Try and open your eyes a bit wider maybe?

I want us to win the Sheffield derby, of course I do. After that 0-0 thrashing we gave them at the Lane earlier this season it's the very least we deserve. If we win that game I'll applaud the team. I won't be applauding any goal that Madine scores, that's a very easy decision for me. Maybe not so easy for you?

Try and realise that the season is about much more than the Sheffield derby. Although I don't want us to lose the Sheffield derby, I'd be quite happy to get beat in the Sheffield derby and get promoted at the end of the season. That's my perspective on it.

Have you thought about attending church?

Footballing side of things he's a striker that scores on average every 6 games. Now i'm no bright spark but that ain't too clever without adding facts like he's a convicted thug, an open Blades hater and thinks the record scorer this century is a fat little pig.

Wilder can do no wrong? He needs to rethink this quick.
Thats the first post I've agreed with you about. You are not a bright spark.

We currently have no requirement for any strikers that score loads of goals.
The facts show we are currently the 3rd highest scorers in the league and already have one of the highest scoring duo’s in this league.

Scoring goals isn’t a problem.
The problem is how we consistently struggle to create chances against teams that come to park the bus and defend in numbers like In the Birmingham match and the Sheffield Derby match where we attacked almost the whole match but hardly created a chance.

We don’t desperately need a top quality striker either. Wilder has obviously spotted a squad deficiency that we lack aerial threat, have no physicality and never look a threat at corners. Doubt Madine has been bought to improve the first 11 but in the 2nd half of the season by some quirk most of our home matches are against teams near the bottom and most of our away games are against teams near the top.

Can imagine when we play the likes of Ipswich, Reading, Bolton, Rotherham at home they’ll sit deep soaking up the pressure then hope to hit us on the break. No doubt we’ll win loads of corners and have these teams pinned back in their own half for long spells.

If we’re struggling to play through a defence due to a lack of space, then an option that often works is bring on a battering ram to make a break through. Don’t expect Madine to start much but he’ll be a really useful tactical option for Wilder to help us win ugly.

Would rather choose a different battering ram but is there anyone else tried and tested available for loan? Remember it was only 12 months ago that Madine was highly effective in a struggling Bolton side. At the end of the day Wilder wants promotion this season trying to improve our chances using the budget available to him.

You'd have to admit though that a chant of "Gary Madine, goal machine" if he scores against the pigs would be one of the funniest things ever in the history of the world?

We know what he’ll bring on the pitch, and it’s a good choice to fulfil those needs player style wise..

It’s the off field stuff I worry about, and the inevitable bragging to his Wendy pals if he isn’t successful (which will mean we aren’t) during his loan spell..

Leopards and spots mate..

Hope I’m wrong.

Well, we've made a lot of silk purses out of sows ears from the sty haven't we? So it wouldn't be surprising tbh. As someone pointed out the other day, there aren't many that have gone the other way, from us to them, and made any sort of impact. Imre Varadi and J.P. McGovern are the only two I can think of that had anything like success there after playing for us.

I don't talk bullshit - thanks. I won't applaud Madine - full stop. I think he's a dickhead. I won't boo him either.

If we score a winning goal at Wembley, as you suggest (and I don't think we are going to Wembley - won't be necessary) then I will applaud the goal - I will assume that it wasn't all the work of one man.

Does that help?

How will you proceed if a scrappy goal is scored and it's not immediately clear if Madine got the final touch?

If you did celebrate it, how are you planning to rescind your celebrations of its later confirmed that it was Madine's goal?

That was my exact plan when we bought the controversial Marlon King.

However when he did score I found myself uncontrollably smiling, politely clapping and making a half hearted murmured cheering sound. Felt really weird loving the club but disliking our player. Must have looked a reight idiot with my weird half celebration.

We agree on this. I'm not going acknowledge the tosser.

Saying that you won't celebrate if Madine scores is a very big commitment ladies and gentlemen.

I am as uncomfortable as anyone with this signing but come on, he scores a winner vs the Pigs or a 95th minute equaliser v Stoke to secure promotion and the fecking lot is going up!

You know it, I know it.

If it’s stuck into the net in a crowded box, I employ a ‘celebrate first, work out who hit it in second’ approach. I don’t want the added bother of having to work out whether it’s someone I’m allowed to cheer or not, but good luck to those that do.

Why can't people just celebrate it as a team goal? You can cheer when he scores and then say to the person next to you... "I wasn't cheering Madine, I was cheering my team"

Simples when you think about it.

Booing of any player will affect the rest of the team - FACT!

Agree we need to give him a chance.
For me it's totally irrelevant that he played for the pigs bit I am concerned about his character. However his convictions are now about 5 years ago and by most accounts he has grown up a lot since then. I am totally confident that CW would not have signed him without being sure he will not disrupt the dressing room. He appears to be a player with passion and if that is channeled towards getting a win with us that's fine by me. He clearly brings something to the team that we do not currently have and as Sheffsteel says it's not that we don't score plenty of goals but we rarely score from corners or dead ball situations and he should give us added options there even if it is only to distract defenders away from Egan or JOC. Remember Stoke where we took a man out of the wall cos we were worried about Crouch and then they scored direct from the free kick.

The other thing is we only have him until the end of the season. If we were to get promoted we probably send him back and go for someone much better if we are top play in the PL next year.

When we score a goal, from anywhere or anybody the cheering and shouting is spontaneous, the feeling is a huge reason to go and support our team, I cannot believe anybody would wait and check to see who had scored because if you did you wouldn't wait a few seconds and then launch yourself in the air with that instant feeling of joy, the moment will have passed, it ain't going to happen, unless he takes a penalty ,even then I wouldn't believe anybody wouldn't cheer, you may as well not bother going and getting involved and again I cannot believe any fan would do that

mb makes a good point. It's a team effort regardless who pokes it home to win the points. Watch the rest of the players if he scores. Bet they don't boo him they will celebrate with him. It's a team game, so bite the bullet and calibrate with the team not the individual and get yourselves out of the corner, he's not worth it.

It’s been said loads of times by so many former players during interviews that it’s a professional job.
As long as a fellow pro does their job well they don’t give a toss whether they like each other or not.
(There’s the famous story of Teddy Sherrington and Andy Cole performing brilliantly as a partnership up front for Man Utd, however they hardly ever talked to each off the pitch and just didn’t get on).

Virtually every player in pro football would have no issues having Adolf Hitler playing centre forward (especially if he’s scoring) with Fred West as goalkeeper (especially if he’s making saves). Also Billy Sharp and our other players will have no issues what’s so ever with Madine because they are professional and just want the team to perform as well as possible.

Actually thinking about it Sharp would have had more concerns if we had signed Jermaine Defoe because he has an almost identical style to Sharp but of course he’s higher quality, so if we did have Defoe then you would expect Sharps appearances to be numbered.

Go away and stop being sensible. Didn't you get the memo?

I can understand why we gave Leon that contact last season as he was on fire at the time but in hindsight it was a poor move. If we had let him go at time though we would have all gone ape shit so can't blame the club here. Just one of those things .

Scott Hogan could be in before the end of the week. Loan I think. Deal all depends on Leon Clarke departing. Rotherham, Bristol City and Wigan amongst those interested. However, he’s not in a rush to leave as on good money and a potential promotion bonus to come.

Whilst he might not get the same salary at another club, I'm sure we could agree to letting Leon have his share of a promotion bonus if we fluke the promised land. I reckon Brizzle could afford his salary anyway

I've resurrected the Scott Hogan thread as there's an article in the Daily mail saying we have enquired again
