Whilst he might not get the same salary at another club, I'm sure we could agree to letting Leon have his share of a promotion bonus if we fluke the promised land. I reckon Brizzle could afford his salary anyway

I've resurrected the Scott Hogan thread as there's an article in the Daily mail saying we have enquired again

"Whilst he might not get the same salary at another club" - well, he won't at Rotherham, but at most other clubs he'll get a lot more! That won't be a stumbling block, trust me!

Scott Hogan could be in before the end of the week. Loan I think. Deal all depends on Leon Clarke departing. Rotherham, Bristol City and Wigan amongst those interested. However, he’s not in a rush to leave as on good money and a potential promotion bonus to come.
Finally!

Giving him 3 years at his age is one thing, giving him 'good money' as well is another - depending on what that is defined as.

I hope we get Hogan now anyway. He's probably fit enough, and obviously has a lot of ability - including pace.

Probabaly good money by Clarke's standards, not championship standards IMO.

Villa paid 9M for him for a reason, he shown bags of quality at Brentford and had the potential to improve. Problem is he's very prone to injuries but I can definitely see another McGoldrick situation where he comes here and all of a sudden he's fit as a fiddle. Deffo worth a gamble on loan, upgrade on Washington.

Think most people would have taken forward options of hogan, madine, sharp and mcgoldrick (and Washington).

Particularly when you consider sharp is on for about 20-25 goals and mcgoldrick is going to be pushing 15.

That said I’m surprised hogan hasn’t featured more with being Smith the villa manager. Really feels like the deal could have been done in the summer if he had forced the situation - that said I’m 99% sure he would not have outscored sharp to this point so maybe it’s not a bad time to get him in for the run in (if possible.)

It going to sulk if it doesn’t happen as Clarke firing again is just as good an option

How would Hogan fit in ?
Bearing in mind we've just grow barred madine in and Clarke out

Think it would be the end of Washington....with a tough run in and probably 3 games on a weekly basis we're going to need 4 strikers. I am however surprised we're not looking for another central midfielder, Coutts is our only fall back.

Hogan's main purpose would be to provide a proper alternative to Sharp.

I'm not sure how he'd fit in as a regular, but he'd make a good partnership with Madine (or McGoldrick).

I suppose it's all about quality strength in depth at this stage.

We should be looking at wing backs and midfielders as well though.

We don't have any goals in midfield at the minute, a fast, strong midfielder who can come in behind the strikers and score would be a good addition.

Leeds I don't get what's going on with Hogan. Its not like Villa are doing thst well and with his ex manager coming in you'd have though he'd get a chance.

I'm not sure he's what we need for the run in, it's so long since has played he can't be anywhere near match fitness can he?

Don't get people questioning Dowell in the slightest. 10 goals in pretty much half a season for forest... he's fitting in nicely and plenty more to come from him.

But I do worry if fleck or Norwood gets an injury

I’d prefer it if you stopped suggesting we give players time. We demand instant impact... Dowell is quite clearly never going to a professional footballer..(apparently)

Well if a player is imminently moving to another club, said club will often insist on the player not being played as such as at risk of injury.

Having said that he could be just be unavailable through injury already.

Thats what worries me, he can't even get on the bench with his ex manager in charge. That sort of sets a little alarm bell ringing.
Yes me too.

He came on as sub the last time he was on the bench for Villa in a live TV game and he looked poor, miles off the pace. That said, a goal is often all a striker needs to fire them back into form, but we’ve been saying that all season about Washington and to a lesser degree Clarke and also Evans before them. We just haven’t got the time or scope to let him or any player play themselves back into form this season, but i guess if anybody can turn Hogan around Wilder and Knill can.

I really don't understand anyone having an issue with Hogan coming in on loan.

When there were talks about him coming in the summer as our main signing and the cost at that point then I fully understood why there were reservations but we already have a quality strike force that's just been bolstered by Madine as an different option and Hogan would just bolster our options even further.

If the owners are prepared to finance it then I'm more than happy.

Put it this way if the worst happened and Billy got a season ending injury who would rather was there to replace him, Hogan or Washington? I know who my choice would be.

A strike force of Billy, Didsy, Madine and Hogan is pretty decent in my opinion and we could probably go with any combination of the 4 if we really had to and it gives us real strength in depth at the end of the pitch.

He's not for me.
He can't get near a team that's below us in the league even though they are managed by the same manager who he played for in his most prolific season, he has had injury problems throughout his career, he only scored 6 goals in 30+ plus games last season hardly prolific.
There are too many alarm bells ringing for me especially given the probable cost to Utd.
Of course if Wilder thinks he can do a job for us then who am i to doubt it.
