I know we live in a modern era so anything is possible re communication and transport but SUFC, apparently including Stephen Betis, are in Portugal and Brentford and Maupay are in Austria. Media reports seem to be suggesting that we've made an enquiry only at this stage, either way, it seems a fee hasn't been agreed yet or the structure of the deal yet to be agreed so it seems a deal is far from done. I doubt this will be done, if it is to be done, until next week. Hendo seems more likely to be done first.

Dyou mean a bid has been accepted by Brentford but the agent is being difficult with contracts etc?

Problem is though Richard, as I'm sure you'll agree, the agent effectively is Maupay if the player allows the agent to speak for him, which presumably he does. That's the problem with agents but also players who seem happy to let the agent do all the talking and ensure their client gets the best deal but that probably scuppers many a deal.

The only real problem with agents is that they don't get (all) their commission directly from the player they represent. It's the most bizarre situation. To try and give it some context, imagine a double glazing salesman, door to door. He is on commission only, paid by the window company when he makes a sale. Imagine if his commission had to be paid by the old lady buying the windows, on top of the windows cost?
The sooner the agents are paid entirely by the players, the better.

It's not totally the agent's fault that they're a cancer within football. The players have the responsibility to choose a responsible agent. Surely if a player simply allows an agent to do all the talking for him (I would guess with the remit of getting the best/highest wage you can for me) he's allowing someone else to decide whether a deal happens or not?
