I’m with you on Burke . I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as many are making him out to be and that playing wide in a system that suits his attributes could see him have a big impact on our attacking play . He’s never going to be a regular goal scorer but the same could be said of many influential attacking players throughout the years .

As for the Mouse , he can do one for me - bad attitude both on and off the pitch and not nearly as technically gifted as some would have us believe , starting with his crap first touch which I pointed out early on in his career with us .
I think Burke would be most effective as a decoy, using his speed to pull away a couple of defenders so that the back line could open up. However, this is dependent on:

1. Him being able to get the ball away to someone with more shooting skill, so he'd have to make incisive passes with short notice - I'm not sure he could do this
2. The opposition falling for it - I suspect that we'd get found out fairly quickly when they realised that he's not much good with the ball at his feet so they could send a single defender after him and if he took a shot it wouldn't trouble the keeper most of the time

Maybe send someone in behind him so that he can do a simple pass back to them and they can redistribute the ball over to the other side where the gap's been made? I dunno. As you can tell, I'm not a football tactician. I just like the singing and the debate about the stripes on the shirts.

if we keep burke i suspect he will be on the bench like billy for most of the season and be used in the last 25 running at tiring defenders

I’m probably on my own here but I’ve not completely given up on Burke. Yes his finishing was awful but a fair few times last season he danced round some very good defenders and pulled it back into the box.

Usually to no one, but with (hopefully) more players in the box in the champ he might prove useful, especially later on. Not putting any money on it but would love to be proved right.

Everyone gets a clean slate for me this season.

It would help if Burke could stay on his feet, it was like watching Bambi on ice last season, he spent more time on his backside than on his feet
being able to run fast is a requirement of a sprinter, a footballer needs more than that.

When Kendall took over and then Warnock, the local press asked them both, how a couple of players had seemingly improved by 50% almost overnight, they both said, they took players aside, had one on one meetings and gave them simple instructions, do this, don't worry about this etc etc seem to remember one of them telling Murphy the Aussie centre back, he wasn't Beckenbauer, stop trying to play like him and keep things simple, bit like the old story of the ManU team talk,,just give it to George.
I think Burke for one will benefit from a similar approach and a set role within the team

For me I've always suspected Burke's main use will be to see out games that we are leading. A position we've rarely found ourselves in since we signed him. Someone with his attributes needs space to run into, if we're leading games and teams are pushing on he'll definitely give them something to think about and give us an out.

As for moose. Who knows, unlike Burke he's clearly got a lot of talent, just no fitness or consistency. He has the ability to be one of the best strikers in the league, suspect he won't contribute much though.

burke will either start games playing out wide in a front 3 or the more likely option of coming off the bench late on and running at tired defenders he could still be a vital player for us

To all the nobs that said he was a fat useless prick. You’re all clueless! New manager and hes looking the part! Looking like the olayer we had first season (that people conveniently forgot last season)

Can’t wait for him to bang 20-30 this season. Wonder if he still be overweight and useless then…

I think I'll wait until a few months into the season before re consider. 45 decent minutes against Donny doesn't trump the last 12 months of crap from this lad.

Every player apart from a very, very small minority had a woeful last 12 months. To single out a lad that barely played was always unreasonable. The pack mentality amongst fans meant he didnt have to do much wrong, not being in the starting 11 or on the bench was enough for the mob to abuse him and want him booted out the club for good.

When in form he always looked our best natural striker. He will prove it this season!

Yeah I agree, can't deal with all this overhype after a couple of goals in a friendly against Doncaster. People need to keep a lid on it.

Are you for real, Moussets behaviour on and off the pitch was a disgrace last season.

Barely played, but ‘too fat and slow’. Hard to play off aimless punts up field for the last 10 mins of a game.
True. Lionel Messi would have been rendered useless most of the time with the service our strikers were getting last season

So quick to condemn .....I can almost feel your disappointment in not being able to slag him off tonight. What about judging with a clean slate?? or maybe how about yourself keeping a lid on it rather than telling others. Maybe after this season or whenever the appropriate or relevant time is you can call him eh! !!!

Hey Siri, define sarcasm.

Not really its up to Mousset to prove the doubters wrong. 2 Goals today and there was the old Moose back for a lot of the play. He has something to prove to himself more than anything.

We've got all these strikers but we need a solid pair up front who work together. Who will that be ?
