Tic, Toc Nige, you said 2 in by Tuesday, why bother raising hopes. Either have a shit or get off the bog or will we all be distracted by the cup?

Its the weather, its been snowing a bit and he can't get a phone signal down in London

In fairness, even i get a little pissed off with the Blades setting themselves a deadline and not meeting it...

Thing is Swiss, we're all aware of negotiations going pear shaped, so why it's a surprise to anyone is beyond me. Perhaps Clough felt confident at the time of writing, but if an agent (re. Freeman's farcical move from Derby) throws a last minute spoke in the works that's out of Clough's hands......or is that something the literalists think NC should be able to control?

I m not sure but maybe a certain game in London just might be taking preference , Id be patient and wait till Thursday , plus the snow might restrict movement of people coming to sign , just a thought

Thing with Clough is that when he's being interviewed, he rarely dodges a question, but he's quite measured in his responses. He likes to give as much information and insight as he can. At the same time, he's very media savvy and doesn't give away information such as transfer targets or deals being done, until they're done. So its good to hear him say things like we'll have 3-4 players in by mon/ tues. However, it sometimes back fires on him, like this time.

Compare Clough to Martinez (whom i really think is a good manager and speaks very well) on Monday night. He came on Sky Sports after the match and discussed the penalty issue, but he squirmed and wriggled as he was asked if Morales should've taken the pen. Why didn't he just say that he hauled him off for going against team instructions. I think Clough would've quite simply said " we have a penalty taker, he wasn't the one. So i hauled him off". Of course that would've been greeted on this forum with comments like "Clough can't handle players properly"; "He shouldn't be discussing these things in public"; "Why is clough letting a talent like diego go (whilst he's still in contract negotiations)" etc etc

Whoa whoa whoa there, surely Clough knows that the Cup games don't matter....

I think you're correct Swiss. I like Martinez too, but yes, I'm sure NC would have given a more specific answer to that particular question. And yes again, you're spot on about the response some on here would've slaughtered Clough about if he'd said something as you described. I think we're not used to having a manager who is as specific as NC, and when this sometimes falls short of what we've now come to expect NC receives a flea in his ear....can't win whatever he does it seems.

Why are people using de geralamo as a stick to beat clough , , all Ive heard is speeculation , hes still very much our player and hes been offered new terms.

Hes going out on loan to get games as he has yet to set our team on fire when hes played , nothing more
Had he played well and say done something of note say score a goal Id see the point

yes just saying it slowed things down before cant see too many hurtling around in this weather to go to medicals and for meetings

I can't recall him ever saying "we'll sign someone by Tuesday". As soon as he says "75% chance" or "hopeful" or some similar phrase, it turns into a solemn promise signed in blood. Football Alchemy, the Bladesfans' Way.

As Pierre says, why on Earth does it matter what day of the week we sign players, so long as we do?

I don't agree with this chaps, this is just another reason to beat a stick against our own fans yet again.I can guarentee that if a player for us took a penalty and missed who wasn't supposed to take it,then ALL the fans would be mightily pissed off and thank Clough for not tolerating it if he came on air and said so.So don't just keep banging on about our fans criticising everytime. Some things deserve it,some things don't,this ain't one of the things to criticise our fans for.

Sorry Wiz, I have to agree with the others...there are certain fans that will criticize Clough, no matter what. When we beat Premier league teams, they are nowhere to be seen, when we lose, they are calling for his head.

When we don't get Brayford, they moan and complain about us getting inferior players, as we look more like signing him, these same fans are complaining that he is blowing our budget on Brayford.

WONDER WHY THEY ARE AFTER A FULL BACK

There's perhaps an argument that some deals are sorted

For whatever reason, Clough has thing about announcing a group signing

We've seen it before

Fingers crossed

I was merely using the example they gave for my post mate, the penalty incident, which i think was a reason just to have a pop at our own fans.

What tends to happen is when things aren't going right, like 'atm' in the league, some fans don't like to say anything bad about the club,so they choose to beat the fans instead, who mostly debate what's going wrong with our side and don't direct things at other supporters of our club.

I just think they used a bad example on this occasion to have a go at our own fans, that's all.

Sorry wiz, but facts is facts.

There's a small cabal of posters who get a hard on simply by repeating the same tired and nasty message. Whether you agree or not they turn up when we lose or drops points and simply go over the same ground as they have before. I had an exchange with one not too long ago, asked him to provide evidence of an accusation he made.....guess what, not heard a squeak since. On this point Going up is completely correct.
