I see Verrips transfer causing mischief with former Belgium club contacting FIFA hey ho could it be another court case .... how would we manage without them?? 😉
 
If anything it sounds like Mechelen have a problem with Verrips instead of us and are going to FIFA about how he apparently terminated his contract

I'll try to line up some things to give you an idea what is going on here:

- With the media attention the club, players and there supporters have had in the last 10 months, I don't think it makes any difference anymore if they get some more by going to FIFA.

- Right now there are no people left at the club who were (presumably) involved with the matchfixing. So to say that the worst crime was committed by the club and he can not play for such a club anymore, well... Then you blame all the people in the club who have nothing to do with it and who were helping, training and supporting you throughout the time you were there. And I can name some other teams (in Belgium, Europe, the world) that have problems with a board or owners that don't know much about ethics. Not even mentioning all those player managers who really are responible for lot's of player - club problems.

  • Throughout last season there was one team in the second tier who were also fighting for promotion and who were constantly trying to destabilize players, staff from Mechelen and were trying to get into the supporter's heads by constantly leaking lies in the media and feeding public opinions and so on. It had te opposite effect. The team became so tight together that they won the Championship and the Belgian Cup. One of those strongholds was Michael. So this opponent team is pretty much hated by everyone involved with Mechelen.
  • This team has 2 owners that each own 50% of the club. One of them is a Belgian building promotor (who took partial ownership not because he supports the team, but he wants to build a new stadium with his company when they reach the 1st tier, he has time until 2022 to accomplish this). The other 50% is owned by some Saudi prince... (Guess who...)

So, the rumour goes that all of this has been arranged by some people who are involved with both Sheffield Utd and that other Belgian second tier team and Michael's manager.

In short: Michael is a very good goalkeeper that has the potential to become great, if he get's enough playtime. But in this I think he's been used as a pawn in some dirty game.

It's difficult to explain to people who haven't been following Belgian football last year. And even for Belgians it's difficult to understand because a lot of lies were told in the press, and a lot of essential things have not been brought out into defence of the club because there is still an ongoing investigation.

So this as to do with K Beerschot VA and our very own price charming, seems like your team as been rolled by our toilet paper prince, it all seems very strange, as Michael was your number 1 keeper I assume the plan was to keep hold of him and build on the success?
 
Thanks for the input Belgian guest. I don't' think any of us want to be associated with 'stealing' a player from another club without paying a fair fee. I'd be surprised if United were taking that kind of risk for someone who, whether or not he has a lot of potential, is not going to be our first choice goalie this year, so hopefully we've looked at the situation & concluded it's above board. But yes it does sound rather dubious.

While that may well be true, I really don’t think Wilder would allow something like that to happen. So I’m struggling to see how we’ve gone ahead with this without sound legal advise.

Sheff United now have quite a lot of money so they aren’t going to risk a lengthy legal battle with bad publicity just to save 1 or 2 million (whatever his value might be)
Sheff Utd must know the situation in full and will have sort legal action before signing Verrips.

Just out of interest how much are 2nd tier goalies sold for in Belguim.
My question is.... if your club was selling Verrips, then what would a fair valuation be? Surely it can’t be that much.
 
United have already sought legal advice, and been told that there shouldn't be any issue. Fifa are expected to throw out the claim by the Belgian club.

The advice received must have given Utd what they feel is a pretty watertight legal standing - hence they were confident enough to pull a bid which was on the table and go ahead and sign the lad up on a free.

My understanding is that the Belgian club have been banned from European competition next season, so they must have been found guilty of something fairly naughty. If that's the case then under Belgian employment law, the lad should be free to terminate his existing contract with them.

Don't think SUFC have anything to worry about here.

As a Mechelen fan , i only can agree the club in this case.
Verrips , 21 years old , has been tricked by agents .

why did he not asked for a move ?
The maximum transfer fee , had been .....1000000 euro , not pounds
Peanuts in England.

Then he walked away like a hero , and we all made the journey to Sheffield to support him .

Our is rival Wilrijk is in hands by the same owner as yours.
This is simply a pay-back move .

We are all fans of our teams , and we all have our proud .
This move is discusting.
If he cheats us , you are the next.

For ending the story ,
We are also back in the topflight , started with 7 points after 3 games .
Hope you do the same, with Henderson in goal . Hehe

Got to feel a bit sorry for KV Mechelen fans but their club were found guilty of being involved in match fixing and money laundering hence the bans from European games and the domestic cup for one year. It doesn't matter a jot that those involved are no longer at the club (they were banned btw) four of the six convicted were at KV Mechelen when the offences occurred. I have read that under Belgian employment law that anyone having a contract with the club has the right to rip up the contract and move elsewhere.
Now Verrips may have been happy to remain at Mechelen but was he ever going to do that when he found out he had a chance to move to the EPL? Like it or not no deal was in place on deadline day his only chance of the move was to cancel his contract. KV Mechelen don't like it, their fans don't like it but the clubs cheating left them open to players walking away. Don't blame the players blame the cheating KV Mechelen officials they are the real villains.
 

KV Mechelen were also given a -12pts deduction and relegated back to B league which Princey's other toy Beerschot were runner up in. Under appeal KV Mechelen had the points deduction wiped out and were allowed promotion to the A league. Beerschot are interested in compensation as a victim of crime "civil party" under Belgian law, where have we seen this before 🤔 🤔 🤔

Eupen played against Moeskroen on the final day.
We (Mechelen) against Beveren.
We were concerned , because Eupen en Moeskroen has the same Quatarese owners!!!
Do not fight the great money , this kind of owners organise the next World Cup at 50 degrees Celsius.

We won 2-0 , the other score was 4-0 , so we relegated.
If we scored 7', the other score had been 9-0.

We kept our opponant in the league 4 years ago .

Not sure if I've missed this being said elsewhere but having looked on the website at the first team squad today I noticed Verrips is the only first team player not listed with a squad number. Dose this mean we are holding off registering him as a player until the legal side of things is completely settled?
 
This really isn't something we should have got involved with imo. Seems a shit way to go about business. For a reserve keeper ffs. Sure, he might be a great player but he's not playing this season.

I suppose it also asks the question if he doesn't have a number and isn't registered, dose that mean we would have to wait till January to register him or can he be added at any time with him being one of our players already.

For me Wilder obviously sees him as Deanos replacement next season. Wouldn’t have gone through all the fuss if not for a 2nd or 3rd choice keeper
