Sat in same stand. Lake was on fire for a few weeks as was Gannon - great times. Also went when Vinnie made his debut for United must have been year or two earlier and think we lost.Went to the 4-2 win at the dell in Jan 92. Drove down (5 hour slog) watched the game and drove straight back. 10 hours driving for 90 mins football but was worth it just for that Mike Lake goal. I sat in the stand and was just about level with Lake as he hit it. Finished 9th in the top flight that year, would settle for the same this time round.

The tedium of another 'international break' is over and it's back to the serious stuff.
Apart from our historic 1-0 League Cup win against The Saints nearly five years ago, this will be the first time we’ve played Southampton in the League in over ten years.
That win - in the fifth round of the (Carling) League Cup on December 16th 2014 - saw Nigel Clough’s Blades progress to the semi-finals where we would eventually go out over two legs to Tottenham. Our goal against Saints came from a Marc McNulty free-kick which was conceded by Sadio Mané. Watch out for Bashambauer’s pirouette!

On January 1992, Dave Bassett’s Blades won 4-2 at The Dell in the top-flight – the last season before the Premier League was formed.
The Saints won 3-2 at St. Mary’s on the last day of the 2007-08 season (May 4th) to secure their place in the Coca-Cola Championship – Leicester City went down to the third tier.
My one and only visit to Southampton came on October 2, 1993 – a 3-3 draw with the Blades’ goals coming from Willie Falconer and a brace from Jostein Flo at The Dell.
The Dell – with a capacity of just 15,200 - was Southampton’s home from 1898 to 2001 before their move to the current stadium, St. Mary’s.
Premier League Table:
Very early days, but us & Saints occupy the ‘middle ground’.

The 1970 one is that when Eddie colougne and I think terry pain ended up in dug out fighting? The 3-1 win in 1970 ,first game of the season ,first game back in the first division and the 3-2 defeat which ended our play off hopes and kept them up about 10 years ago stand out for me.

I was at that game and was sat on my hands in the saints family standJostein Flo's late double for a 3-3 draw is about the only thing I can remember against them, ever
Aside from that Bobby Stokes.
My memory of the Leeds game was that we got there early and got our usual spot on the wall that ran down the middle of the kop just under the roof. I had a scarf tied round my left wrist as I thought I was nails and a few Leeds came on to the kop from the top turnstiles, one grabbed my scarf and I fell off the wall as he ran into the kop my uncle Tony gave chase a beat the shit out of him and came back with it. That's when I realised most football hooligans were all show and the real hard men didn't talk about it. I wasn't the only one who got a lesson that day so did Leedscum, 3 fucking nilSpecial memories of that 1971 game. It was my debut at a first team game at BDTBL and as it was the start of a new season and being back in the top division it was deemed a suitable game to introduce the young chab SEB to being a Blade. From my first climbing the steps from below John Street up onto the terrace I was hooked. Perched on the white railings on the front, I saw United playing well and winning. My Dads mates, stood behind on the terrace all agreed I was a proper lucky charm and had to be at the next game. Problem was, school night on a Tuesday, don't know what powers of persuasion were used but I found myself back on my perch on Tuesday night for the game against Leeds. Those of an age know that your first experience of a night game at the Lane is generally one that seals you permanently to the club. I was no different, the sights, sounds, smells and crackling atmosphere of that night got me totally hooked. We then took Leeds apart (in my young mind) my status as the lucky mascot was sealed and I was a Blade for life.

I remember it being so cold that my Dad's car wouldn't start for quite a while when we'd walked back to it after the game. As a youngster with no real concept of leaving the car and staying in a hotel I seem to recall starting to think we were going to sit in it all night and freeze to death.

Remember lightning and thunderstorm in the 2nd half?

Think that was Gannon, might have been the week after the Southampton match.

Was his hair greying yet?1971 actually. The below photo is my first Blade goal in the top division as a committed BladeView attachment 61114
90 91.Do I remember going 4-0 up after about 20 minutes at a very foggy Lane during the 89/90 season?![]()
Thanks United.90 91.
I was about to nominate this. Bob Booker scored two goals in a first half romp, before the Blades get a penalty in the second half. Cue the crowd expectantly chanting our hero's name, only for John Gannon to step up with a tame effort.Do I remember going 4-0 up after about 20 minutes at a very foggy Lane during the 89/90 season?![]()
No, the first time I saw his hair going grey was in the pre season friendly at York in August 1973Was his hair greying yet?
