Kraft durch Freude
OK. After a pisser of a weekend, let's hope we're back on track this Tuesday.
This season is Brentford’s fifth in The Championship since promotion from League One in 2014-15. Their first season back saw The Bees finish in fifth place before losing the play-off semi-final to Middlesbrough.
Back in March this year, I did my first ‘Memries of Brentford’:

The appointment of Dean Smith in November 2015 solidified Brentford's Championship status with consecutive top ten finishes in the following three seasons (9th, 10th and 9th). At the end of the 2015–16 season, the reality that Brentford "can't win by outspending the competition, so we have to out-think them" (Smith) led to the scrapping of the club's academy and Development Squad and the adoption of a B team as the way to develop its own players.
On 10 October 2018, Smith was appointed manager of Championship club Aston Villa, with John Terry as his assistant coach.
Our last meeting was on Friday 30th March at Griffin Park earlier this year. This rainy Good Friday saw United draw 1-1 and both United’s ‘keeper Jamal Blackman and Brentford’s Woods sent off. The Blades had gone ahead through a Chris Basham goal before Brentford equalised.
To date, our League results against Brentford read:
Home: P: 15 W: 5 D: 6 L: 4 F: 25 A: 19
Away: P: 15 W: 4 D: 3 L: 8 F: 19 A: 25
Championship Table:
The Blades have slipped to fifth place while Brentford are 15th.

Form Guide:
Based on the last six league games (oldest first), United have just six points from the last possible 18. Brentford have just 3.

Top Scorers:
Like United, Brentford appear to be over-reliant on one scorer.

Neal Maupay joined The Bees from Saint-Étienne on 14th July 2017 for a fee reported to be £1.6m. Capped for France at U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-21 level, his 35 international appearances have seen him score 15 goals. Maupay didn't score in the 2-1 home defeat to Middlebrough yesterday, so should be 'due a goal'...
Ollie Watkins joined Brentford on 18th July 2017 from Exeter City for a reported £1.8m. This season, he scored three goals in the first three games but has barely figured in the last four games – not even on the bench. I can’t find any evidence of injuries etc. so he could be having a flounce since Dean Smith left.
Thomas Frank is the current Brentford manager.
Frank is a Danish football manager and coach who is currently head coach at Brentford. After 18 years in youth coaching, he managed Brøndby IF between 2013 and 2016. He moved to Brentford as assistant head coach in 2016 and was promoted into the role of head coach in October 2018 when Dean Smith left.
Breaking News:
After just 16 appearances for The Bees, Arsenal are said to be lining up a £15m bid for Brentford central defender and England U-21 international Ezri Konsa in the January transfer window. Link
Signficant others:
John Egan: In 2012 John joined the Blades on loan to ease an emergency defensive crisis. His loan spell lasted just one game – a 2-3 loss at Walsall on March 6th.
On 19th July 2018, John signed on a permanent basis for United for a fee believed to be a club-record of £4m.
Blades legend Bob Booker suffered a cruciate ligament injury while at Brentford in 1986. He was considering quitting football, taking the money from the benefit game that Brentford had offered him and putting the money into a window cleaning business until Dave Bassett brought him to The Blades on a free transfer. Bob played 109 games for United and scored 13 goals.
