It just doesn't work like that. One of the reasons people amass huge personal wealth is precisely because they're cautious. If you have money to burn then surely the takeover is quick?

Yes, I'm not disagreeing with that, but if you had money to burn you surely wouldn't care? That's the meaning of 'having money to burn', isn't it?!It just doesn't work like that. One of the reasons people amass huge personal wealth is precisely because they're cautious.
The millionaires I've known, were also amongst the tightest people I've known.Yes, I'm not disagreeing with that, but if you had money to burn you surely wouldn't care? That's the meaning of 'having money to burn', isn't it?!
I'm not disagreeing with you. Rich people are tight. But, having money to burn means being prepared to waste money. That's the meaning of the saying. The millionaires I've known, were also amongst the tightest people I've known.
It's a mindset thing
We have lost 3 games all season its not the end of the world 3/4 in and go again. Will take 3 more losses 2nd part of the campaign or 17 winsGot to aim for at least 6 players this window coming up. If not we’ll have to settle for top 6 and pray we finally win one
Think wilder said he was feeling his calfJesurun Rak-Sakyi who is absent from the matchday squad completely. His absence has not been officially explained although there has been an element of illness in the Blades camp of late.
We won't bring in 6 players. The JTW isn't where you do that level of businessGot to aim for at least 6 players this window coming up. If not we’ll have to settle for top 6 and pray we finally win one
AyeStarting 11 could look very different come 1st February away at Derby. Could almost be a "mini" rebuild in Jan with how threadbare our squad is!
Soutter looks bad so will probably be going back to Leicester for his rehab and there is always the, (real) danger of someone coming in for Hamer or Vini....I sincerely hope I am wrong but it's not impossible. Rak-Sakyi could get recalled by palace, (again far from impossible, especially with his unexplained absence yesterday).
For me we need;
Right sided defender - Anel takes Harry's place, (if he is done) with Gilchrist as cover, (if he doesn't get recalled as well). Gilchrist isn't an RB, not good enough going forward.
Centre midfielder - Especially if we lose Gus or Vini. Sydie has done really well but I'm not sure on him being a starter for the rest of the season. Davies will probably miss more games than he plays.
Wingers - both sides preferably. Mikey Johnston at WBA, Ben Doak at Boro and Anthony yesterday for Burnley show how important pace is at this level. Rak Sakyi and Brooks haven't got to the byline once and whipped in a cross this season
Forwards/Strikers - someone who can stick the ball in't net! Playing Brewster is like playing with 10 men and Moore isn't great. BBD and one other please.
So that's at least 4 or 5 needed, maybe even as many as 7 depending on loans being cancelled and sales.
It has been explained its a tight HamstringJesurun Rak-Sakyi who is absent from the matchday squad completely. His absence has not been officially explained although there has been an element of illness in the Blades camp of late.
i think we will definetly bring 4 in and if chris can squeeze a bit more out of our new owners it could be 5 anel can slot in to souttars role and also go centre if we revert back to a back 3
yeah see your point but dont think it would have mattered what formation we had gone with at bellend rd might just be difficult to bring another centre back similar to souttar switching might be our only optionMassive gamble IMO switching formation half way through the season. Granted we may be forced to but going from a back 4 to a 5 is a risk IMO....we tried it once at Leeds and were awful...
I think that 5 or 6 players in would be very ambitious. The JTW is notorious for rushed decisions, by players, other clubs and availability. That’s before agents stick their oar in!Wilder may not have directly, but Bettis will have done and options will have been put in place no matter who owned the club Jan 1 .
Therefore there will be a minimum / poss BBD and the Liverpool lad ? if the Prince retained ownership- but now CW can discuss other possibilities with the new owners . These other possibilities may have also been lined up on the assumption that the new owners are in situ .
Wilder will get backing imo - his record thus far deserves it - what he does with that backing to earn further support is another question
The only bit i disagree with is that it doesn't matter if we go up and come down again.Agree but it doesn't really matter, any time spent in the PL seriously boosts a clubs finances.
Even if we're instantly relegated we should easily have one of the best teams in Championship for another promotion in 2027.
Think if we're promoted then the club will aim to buy up and coming Championship stars (like some of the Sunderland youngsters, the midfielder Bellingham and the winger Watson) instead of buying tried and tested experienced PL players.
No way we get 6 players in, 3 high-level performers who can come straight into the match day squad and some back from injury and I think we will be just fine.We won't bring in 6 players. The JTW isn't where you do that level of business
We’ll utilise the 2 loan spots and I think we’ll pay a decent fee for a permanent signing.I can't imagine for one second that we'll sign more than 3 players. Very few clubs sign lots of players in January. If Souttar goes back then likely 3 loans?
six will not happenGot to aim for at least 6 players this window coming up. If not we’ll have to settle for top 6 and pray we finally win one
Couldn't agree more, they'll want something for there dollar, and if not heads will be on the chopping block. Having worked for Americans years ago, there ruthless in business!I have no doubt Wilder will be backed in January. But if we start to drift down the table - make no mistake the new owners will not hesitate to make a change of Manager. The attitude of US businessmen to hiring & firing managers based on ‘results’ is much more cutthroat. Don’t forget he’s only got 6 months left on his contract.
I think Chris has done a fabulous job - but the landscape & expectation has changed significantly now with new owners who only have one objective…….to make money = promotion to the Premier League asap.
agree ham the 3/4 players we sign in january have to be players who go straight in to the starting 11 think brereton and morton will do that anyway and probably james bree if we go for a rbWe need, and I think we will have, a January window like we've never had before
The signings won't be supplementary, they'll be straight into the first 11 key players
But after yesterday it's a big ask to recruit sufficiently
Sorry , there are only 2 auto places and currently Leeds & Burnley look way stronger candidates than we do.We have lost 3 games all season its not the end of the world 3/4 in and go again. Will take 3 more losses 2nd part of the campaign or 17 wins
Burnley are still behind us as it stands.Sorry , there are only 2 auto places and currently Leeds & Burnley look way stronger candidates than we do.
They've each beaten us 2-0 without much bother.
We have injury crisis in shallow squad.
Even if we spend big in January , the incomers have to settle in.
We desperately need recruits asap , not at the end of the window.
Autos is a very tall order for us.
But it would be an amazing achievement from where the squad stands just now.
Another 3 tricky fixtures whilst rivals have easier ones.
Depends entirely on clever recruitment next month.
Yes, I'm not disagreeing with that, but if you had money to burn you surely wouldn't care? That's the meaning of 'having money to burn', isn't it?!
