Again, nothing to do with football or football fans.

What makes you think the average person from Sheffield wants "cheap and tacky"?
Of course they do, that's why so many poundshops exist, and fuck all in the way of quality retailers.

Utter bollocks. Sad that you 'support' a team where you hold the club and other supporters with such disdain.

Do everyone and yourself a favour. Go away
Ahh abuse now, wondered how long it would take.

Sheffield is renowned for it's cheap and tacky image, do you think wonderful retailers, exquisite bars, top quality restaurants, hotel chains etc don't look at the 5th largest city in the country to see if there is money to be made by having a presence here?

Of course they do, and then they say "Don't think we'll bother"

When the oil money bought Man City they knew that they could raise the profile of the club and if the older style fans wouldn't pay the increased prices and support the club financially like they have never done before, another 50 odd thousand people would, and if they increased the stadium capacity again they would get even more fans in.

How many of our "sleeping fans" would do this if 20,000 of our regular fans said "I'm not paying it" or "I can't afford it".
None, the club hasn't done enough to build up an underbelly of support waiting until the club gets it right.

They don’t fill the fucking ground though? I live in the city. Manchester is 5 to 1 United over City. They’re leagues bigger. They get ridiculed, yes they have a fan base, probably bigger than ours. But it will be 100 years or so before their fan base will be on the level of United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

They didn’t buy the club because of a fucking airport or the fact they have a Harvey Nicks in the centre. It was 100% political. Manchester council had a shit load of land in a deprived area (Bradford) and the club was owned by a wanted criminal. Their ground was a legacy from the 2002 games. It was 100% due to what the Prince is doing for us. Everything was in a portfolio, no red tape and had the potential for expansion.

Fucking same with Newcastle.

Nothing to do with how sexy the fucking city is. East Manchester and places like Byker near St Jimmy’s are fucking shitholes, shitload more deprivation than Sharrow, Highfield and London Road. In fact Sheffield as a city, other than the city centre is probably more appealing in certain places than any area in the Manchester, Salford, Newcastle, Liverpool etc city limits.

You chat absolute shit.

Abuse? If calling your bollocks opinion bollicks is abuse, report me.

Sheffield is a working class, Northern city. It also houses, especially including the extension of Meadowhall all the biggest retailers, restaurant chains and bars in the country. Which hotel chains aren't represented that are in other similar non-London towns? It has one of the best hospitals in the country as well as one excellent university and another good one.

It's certainly behind Leeds and Manchester but the only person I've heard describe it as "cheap and tacky" is you. More to the point, you've appointed yourself as arbiter to describe 100s of thousands of people as cheap and tacky as well.

The average Mr & Mrs Sheffield want cheap and tacky in everything they buy, and their football is no different, they cannot imagine paying £45-£50 to see Haaland and De Bruyne if they can pay £25 to see Slimane and Benni Traore
You can't actually believe this, it's absolute rubbish. I'd say without question 100% fanbase would double what they pay for a season ticket if the owner bought quality.

You can't actually believe that reason City are so good is that there fanbase pay £50 a ticket- thats nonsense. City are good because billionaire owners have wanted to have the worlds best team as their toy?

You talk like all Sheffielders are scumballs that want cheap shit, you are talking rubbish.

You're entitled to think what you want. But there's zero evidence that the average person from Sheffield doesn't want nice things

There is a reason we can't find a credible buyer for the club... Sheffield .. pains me to say it who wants to invest in Sheffield does anyone invest in Sheffield. Leeds Manchester investible. Im Starting to think the problem is Sheffield
World Snooker seems happy enough with Sheffield at the moment?

They have them in every city you’ve described. They all have Phone shops, Greggs, American Sweet Shops, Pound Shops.

Piccadilly Gardens is derelict, has a Soviet style concrete wall and is full of homeless. It’s the same as Castle Market or Fargate.

Don’t forget Turkish barbers and nail bars. Every town centre and city centre is the same.

Well that wasn’t quite what I said. He’s been fortunate the crowd hasn’t completely turned as he’s contrived to deliver one of the worst seasons in Premier League history.
That's what I can't get my head around, why the crowd hasn't turned against this piss poor owner! Even some fans making excuses up for him. Amazed at how the twats got off Scott free!!

Everything about the club during the lifetimes of practically all living supporters screams "mediocrity", so this our default position.

We've had times when we've been worse than mediocre, some of those very recently indeed.

But what is "mediocre" and what's wrong with that? Crystal Palace is, to me, the epitome of a mediocre club in a mediocre suburb of a pimple on the arse of London. And yet they've had a surprisingly long unbroken spell in the Premier League, this being their 11th season, and they'll definitely make a 12th.

And yet, in all that those seasons in the sun they've finished every one of their 10 before sandwiched between 10th and 15th and are on course to do so once again. Stunning mediocrity. They did also reach the FA Cup final in that time, but so what? Even we reached 2 semi finals in that period.

They are much, much better than us, but in what set of circumstances are they ever going to do much better than that? And yet that level of mediocrity is our ambition.

I didn't expect us to stay up this season, and whilst I didn't expect the appalling levels of performance we've actually seen, we can at least return to the lower division and hopefully win a few games and feel better about ourselves. Next time, if there is to be a next time, we may even do a lot better. That's the joy of football amongst all the bitterness and rancour. I've mockingly said before this motto should be on Wednesday's crest but it's true enough - "There's Always Next Year"

Where there's life, there's hope.
Agree with a lot of what you say but Palace aren’t mediocre. Some of the players they resisted selling for years were very good. Maybe being in London decent wages meant more of an attraction

Wow.

Whilst I’m of the opinion that too many sheffielders are way too deferential about the higher orders in our society, and that way too many of our fans give the Prince and the board an easy ride and settle for way too little, what you’ve just said about the people of our city is some industrial grade bollocks

Don’t forget Turkish barbers and nail bars. Every town centre and city centre is the same.
Can we leave Turkish barbers out of this please?

Get my nut done every 3 weeks in Paisley. The care and attention he extends for eight quid is second to none and I feel transformed and happy when I leave. Plus his chat is fantastic.
I give him a tenner,obvs.

I lived in the Thornton Heath area (where palaces ground is) of Croydon for 18 months and it’s certainly not mediocre.

It is without doubt the most irredeemably awful shit hole I’ve ever had the misfortune of living in.

I’ve lived in a number of places with a reputation and was fine, Thornton Heath and Croydon in general is absolutely soulless and a total dump.

I was not denigrating Turkish barbers in any way. I use them - they are superb. I was just pointing out that they are everywhere.

China has started trying to tempt players into a new league it's only a matter of time
There is already talk of the World Snooker Championships being played elsewhere as soon as the current contract expires.

I believe the reason given was due to the limited spectator capacity of The Crucible, but I suspect it will probably be due to the lack of an Airport or the high density of low cost German supermarkets in the area?

Didn't say all Sheffielders are scumballs or anything else. I said a lot of them want cheap and tacky.
Same as every other city.

But what Sheffield doesn't have is enough people who want better.
Not the same as every other city

And money of course

What about Burnley? There’s a club that’s continually over performed for the size of the town
So does the Prince actually want to sell ? Great point who and why would anyone invest in Burnley but they managed it

Thanks Reece, but I did actually call it a "mediocre suburb of a pimple on the arse of London"

95% of our fan base are either

A - related to him
B- friends
C - club employees
D - money mules carrying PL money to United World.

Must be true, l think l’ve read it on here.

Then again, unlike easily identifiable posters on here, maybe the majority don’t spend their days repeating the same negative comments whenever a new thread comes up. Maybe they worry about the future of the club rather than seeming desperate to be right being the main thing on their minds.
Many times I'm desperate to be wrong, and quite often I am. 😀

Sheffield united are actually a big club not medium
We are a club who have gone 100 years without a major trophy we have not ever reached our fanbase potential. We are averaging 30k for a shit team and again 100 years no trophy .
Burnley Bournemouth Brentford achieve more than us thru investment but small crowds.
Wasn't long ago newcastle struggled to get 18k ar home till money came along
I've been at most top Premier clubs when they've had shit crowds ..
Chelsea were getting 7k home support early 90s.
If sheffield Council pushed the history of sheffield football wise and acknowledged the game was invented here and promoted it then we get investment and a few tourists.
A large sign on the parkway into the centre saying
WELCOME TO SHEFFIELD THS HOME OF FOOTBALL would be a start .
