The only way a strike force of Campbell, Moore, McBurnie, Cannon and Onè gets enough goals to get us promoted is if Campbell scores 30 of them.
Not sure the 30 goal a season striker is a must have thing in the championship in the last 5 years only a handful have even got close.

This is this seasons...

Oh no I agree, I just can't see the rest of them scraping up enough goals between them.

Bettis said cannon was board led...

Stephen Bettis on BBD, Cannon, Choudhury, Clarke, and Holding

"We all sat down and the owners were keen to ensure that Chris got all of the players that he wanted and filled all of the positions that he wanted and that was the priority. Chris highlighted 4 positions he wanted to strengthen and those were filled by Ben Brereton Diaz, Hamza Choudhury, Harry Clarke, and Rob Holding. Then there was a 5th one in Tom Cannon, Tom wasn't a position that Chris was actively saying he wanted to recruit in this window but Tom was one we looked at in the summer and Tom was one Chris really wanted to do at that point but wasn't achievable under the previous ownership. The new guys listened to Chris and were really supportive of it and saw what Tom had done in the first half of the season at Stoke and basically gave him the backing to go and do that."

Ahh.. so it were a wilder signing, with support from the board?

New contract for Robinson.
New contract for Brewster.
Re-sign McBurnie.

Modern progression my arse!!!

Can't see this happening and I wouldn't want him back. We need a reliable goal scorer and that is not McBurnie. He's at the age where he should be playing at his peak and his peak is bang average Championship striker.

No thanks. Move on.

I seriously doubt this would happen, but I’d be up for it.

He’s a top championship striker and is fitter than ever. Campbell, McB, Moore, Cannon and Oné is very good for this level.
Your taking the piss pal, Mcburnie would slow things down even further, probably end up with a snails pace strike force😂

An AI summary of McBurnie's last season in Spain:

McBurnie's Mixed Performance in Spain
Oliver McBurnie's 2024-25 season with UD Las Palmas in La Liga has been a mixed bag, with some notable contributions but also struggles to consistently impact games. Here's a detailed breakdown of his performance based on the available data:

Key Statistics and Performance Overview

  1. Goal Contributions:
    • McBurnie scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists in 34 league appearances (20 starts, 14 substitute appearances)
    • His expected goals (xG) was 4.8, suggesting he slightly underperformed in finishing chances
  2. Playing Time and Role:
    • He played 1,837 minutes (about 20 full matches), averaging 0.15 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes, which ranks poorly among forwards (7th percentile).
    • Often deployed as a centre-forward, he also played as a substitute in tight games, reflecting fluctuating trust from the manager
  3. Strengths:
    • Aerial Dominance: Won 4.26 aerial duels per 90 (90th percentile), making him one of La Liga’s most effective target men in the air .
    • Creativity: His 6 assists and 0.29 expected assisted goals (xAG) per 90 (91st percentile for assists) highlight his ability to link play.
  4. Weaknesses:
    • Inefficiency in Front of Goal: With just 13 shots on target from 32 attempts (37.5% accuracy), his shooting was below average.
    • Limited Involvement in Build-Up: Despite his physicality, his pass accuracy (65.9%) and progressive carries (0.34 per 90, 5th percentile) were weak points.
  5. Team Context:
    • Las Palmas struggled near the relegation zone, and McBurnie’s inconsistency mirrored their season—occasionally decisive (e.g., goals vs. Leganés, Atlético Madrid) but often anonymous.

Verdict

McBurnie’s season was decent but unspectacular. His aerial prowess and creativity stood out, but his finishing and overall impact were underwhelming for a starting striker in La Liga. While he provided moments of value, his performance metrics suggest he’s better suited as a rotational player rather than a primary scorer for a mid-table or relegation-battling side.

Strikers shouldn’t be the ones that speed or slow play. They’re their to score goals, especially with one up front.

The good news: The AI scouting algo has identified a promising striker playing for an obscure Spanish side

The bad news ...
So a decent striker at La Liga level is available on a free, one who also has a very solid record at Premier League and Championship level and has previous links to the club and manager, which may aid us in securing him?

To be clear I'm not necessarily against it personally

Yeah, I'm not saying we should sign him either. I think if he's not under any consideration (unless there are off the field, behind the scenes issues with him) then it's seriously remiss on the clubs part. For what it's worth, if he's interested in coming back, and CW wants him I'm sure he'll be on a list.

Doesn't matter who sanctioned it or who led the signing the fact that we ended up 6going into the business end of the season with the chuckle brothers in central defence wether directly because of this signing or as a side effect should be the most concerning aspect to them
Bit of an insult to the chuckle brothers

If he signs and does well, which he would, I assume you'll not be singing "He's our striker, he's our number 9"?!

He's easily a top end Championship striker.
He absolutely is.

I'm fine with signing him for a championship promotion chasing season.
Was one of our better performers in our most recent PL season but I think it shows he's not really up to that standard.

He split opinion during his time here anyway which is probably why there are some massive overreactions to signing him again.

This all said however, I'd want to see other strikers linked/signed instead or as well as.
But we have Moore, Cannon, Campbell, One on the books already. Without including Brewster. Doesn't feel like there are many other slots left and I can't see any of those departing. Unless someone offers enough for say Moore or a club tempts us with a decent bid for One.
Campbell could be subject of interest but I don't see him moving this summer.

Yet again we continue to see the same old names mentioned as potential transfer targets, months after they first seem to have appeared / been targeted. None of these names make me think that the current manager shows any signs of progression or change in tactics or having a plan B. The names mentioned are just mundane playets (in my opinion), sticking to what he thinks is safe / knows / will fit into his "system".
Whilst appreciating some of his past endeavours, if the current transfer talk has any credence, then I'm sorry, this is no longer good enough.
I hope the owners can see this & have a change of direction. If they do, whilst appreciating it may not work, I believe now is the time for change
