Mcburnie

Fair enough pal, but I hate watching him play. He's so slow to react and has absolutely no sense of anticipation. His biggest strength is winning the headers in his own penalty box!

He's exactly what we don't need imo. I can't believe Selles would be interested.

We're supposed to be progressing, not regressing.

Im not advocating signing him
Im a bit ambivalent to be honest I dont think hes brilliant I dont think hes shit
I quite fancied him and bbd up front last season but we couldn't lure him back ,this season im.not sure where he will fit in but I think he might prosper when not asked to be a target man ,he actually looked a decent footballer at Barnsley when asked to play a deeper second striker type role

Why do some fans have to revert to insulting former players ,mcb isn't the best cf in the UK but he's more than capable when fully fit ,and a great defensive foil at corners
And he won't be forced to play when unfit now, as we actually have other strikers.

McBurnie played a key role in our promotion under Hecky. At Champ level he is good. Truth be told in our dreadful relegation from the PL last time he was one a few that did a bit better.

If he signs for a Championship club they will be the better for it. (Assuming he is fit enough)
So I have no problem if that is us. And I'd rather have him than Moore.

McBurnie can link up better and play it on the deck better than Moore.
This

Sellés style suits McBurnie.

Despite his height, McBurnie isn't a target man. A role he was forced to play in most games as a United player.
He likes the ball on the deck and to get involved in the build up
Not a natural target man but is now absolutely capable at the role

Surely we can't have all the new and fresh ideas, approach and management that we've seen introduced in the last few months only to regress hugely to this footballing equivalent of a complete retard.

A return to fighting with the centre backs, reactive running and looking knackered and worn out in the first 10 minutes.

I don't want to believe this rumour because I can't believe the new management would be this short-sighted. If they are and this is the calibre of player that we are looking to fit into the new system then we can look forward to another season of near misses and disappointment (imo).

Hopefully Selles can see through this idiot.

We signed McB and changed his role immediately, Selles style is closer to what style helped McB command a £17m fee at Swansea

Agree….i’m ambivalent too.
When I think back to some of his poor performances in the Championship….at times he did play like a donkey.
Still don’t think it helps that he can’t run properly, has such a ugly limping running style like Steve Claridge and runs with a grimace on his face like he’s in pain.
But then we saw with our own eyes he had some impressive matches in the Premier league where their defenders struggled to handle him.
He’s also shows more to his game than being a striker, some decent link play in midfield and excellent defensive headers.

My view on McBurnie is that generally he’s not very good
But he does have a high ceiling…..to reach that high ceiling he needs to be injury free, psyched up and play like it’s personal.
If we sign him I’ll look at the positives and be happy…..if we don’t sign him I’ll look at the positives and be happy.

I’ll happily tolerate his” grimace “ & inability to run if he performs owt like Claridge (except behind a steering wheel)

And Moore was...... cos he couldn't win headers in our box, their box, or in a shit box.
Rather have Mcburnie than Moore, atleast he made an effort.

The worry is we do, he does not !!!

If we end up swapping a 32-year-old Moore for McBurnie AND £2 million, that'd go down as one of the greatest deals in history - nearly as good as the Prince conning a Nigerian conman out of £10 million!

This is pretty much my take on it. I wouldn't have advocated for McB to come back, been there, done that etc. but l can 100% see the logic of releasing funds and a squad place in Moore and bringing McB back. He's younger, better, can defend and apparently would naturally suit Sellesball.

It's only really a concern if we've been forced into this move because we're having to wheel'n'deal because funds are limited. I was hopeful that the new regime was flush enough to make a couple of marquee signings. They still might, l guess....

Come on, mate. You might rate Osula, but he isn't Isak's replacement.
Maybe not yet but he's being coached into that role. He's quick, athletic and had a similar playing style to Isak. He has a way to go yet as he needs to start playing regularly and hitting the back of the net regularly. He's 21 now. If he's not playing regularly and showing progress by the end of the season then I think Newcastle will get rid.

Next summer will be full of "We should bring Osula back" threads on here. Why not? There seems to be an endless fixation with former players! 🤣

mcburnie used to tear us apart for Swansea and Barnsley, when played as a sort of creative forward.

We signed him, and tried to turn him into a target man which wasn’t his game.

I wasn’t his biggest fan in his time with us, but he was never used right, and injuries were infuriating.

Looks to have sorted the injuries based off last season in Spain.

Replacing Moore with him + £2m would be fantastic business. He doesn’t have to play every game which might actually help him/us.

This 100%

I never understood why we played him as a target man… such an old school football mindset - tall so he must be a target man 🤦‍♂️

It will be interesting to see how Selles plays him.

I found the striker recruitment during the PL period pretty patchy and it undermined some of the belief in Wilder’s judgement:

Callum Robinson - not a striker. Ok as a wide forward in we played 4-3-3 or 3-4-3.

Oliver Burke- a heads down winger. Not a striker either.

Mousset - never finished a game at Bournemouth and repeated it with us. Brilliant on his day but his day over the time here was very limited.

McBurnie- I always say this but it felt Wilder tried to make him a Premier League Jon Parkin. That wasn’t his game at Swansea, he ran from deep and often dropped deep, goal vs Weds for Swans a good example.

I hope this deal comes off Moore gone plus £2m our way for Mcburnie is a great deal . For the record I don’t think Moore was as bad as people made out but I think Mcburnie is a better player in both boxes . I also think it will benefit us having someone who already gets the club and fans and he seemed to be liked by the players first time round . With all the foreign signings his experience could be very beneficial. Hopefully see him soon !
As ever UTB !

Much prefer him to Moore, but I hope we are being sensible and offering a short-term deal.
