No transfer fee, at peak age, shown to be good in the championship on more than one occasion.

Surely a pretty easy yes?

He was free when we released him….

Has he scored 20 goals this season that haven’t been accounted for yet or have I missed them?

A 22 goal season and a 15 goal season not to be sniffed at. He’ll have his pick of spl and championship clubs, because no transfer fee means he represents good value to clubs.

I’d love us to do better, but in the championship, this sort of free transfer is our level.

If he is that good, we won’t be able to compete with Saints, Leicester and Ipswich…

But he isn’t. That’s why he was free last year and why he’s free this year.

His record speaks for itself…

I think mcburnie would be a decent signing in the championship. However I think we'd need at least one if not two wingers coming in to supply Mcburnie and or when Moore plays. We havent provided many crosses this season for Moore and that needs to change next season.
Surprised we didn't put more crosses into him this season, he actually does quite well with them when we put balls across the box to his head or feet.

QPR (H): his first goal for us, might have only been a far post tap in, but it was a good ball from Hamer across goal.
Cardiff (A): that was a great cross (Gilchrist I think?) that he took on his chest and volleyed in.
Bristol City (PO H): put that corner near him, and he scored it.
Sunderland (PO F): that header in the first few minutes, good cross and he beat two defenders to it.

WE don't need to spend fur the sake of it at the same time.

There's not many strikers who will get 14 goals without spending decent money which as we know is never a sure fire thing. It's actually rare. Only 4 players managed it this year...
And two of those players (Sainz and Brownhill) aren't even strikers.

Moore would do nothing with crosses because he can't jump any more. McBurnie would do better. I expected Moore to be better than McBurnie aerially but he's far from it

McBurnie and Campbell would be a very good partnership but yes, the supply line would need looking at
Specifically, we need to use all the space on the flanks. Playing left footed players on the right is fashionable but Brooks and JRS nearly always turn inside and usually get crowded out. Even worse, they rarely if ever move over to the left side and attack down there. It’s no surprise that we create so few chances. Varying the point of attack ought to pay dividends.

It's staggering how rarely we've had them switch flanks (to their natural side) and I'd love to know why

Hamer getting so many goal contributions from the left?

Pretty sure JRS has played RW before we signed him (we'd have signed exclusively for that position), whereas Brooks is playing his first season as RW, as opposed to his CM role in the PL.

I know I started this thread, but my thoughts have changed a little.

We need to decide how we're intending to play, first. Then assess our options from there. As close as like-for-like for Campbell should be the priority IMO. With pace, intelligence, movement. Then, recruit the rest accordingly.

I wouldn't want to sign any striker, if it prevented us from signing one in the above mould.

I seriously doubt this would happen, but I’d be up for it.

He’s a top championship striker and is fitter than ever. Campbell, McB, Moore, Cannon and Oné is very good for this level.

Campbell and McBurnie up top in this league is quite a handful though

Can't see Wilder being allowed by this new owners to have sole decision on signings. They will look at 10 mill spent on cannon, rightly or wrongly, review it accordingly. This makes me think, would Wilder accept players not based on his 100% approval???????

Bettis said cannon was board led...

I don't know exactly how the Cannon signing came about but I can't see the owners holding it against Wilder. It is they who insisted on stretching to the absurd and unnatural fee to make it happen
