McAtee pants down

And that’s absolutely fine. I can take a ribbing, but they also may have to climb down from their perches if the lad fails to deliver.
It depends what they’ve said. If they’ve watched him for 45 minutes and said he’s going to be brilliant then they’re guessing just as much as you were.

If they said you can’t accurately judge a player after watching them for 45 minutes then they’re right.

I wasn’t basing my view just on Luton. He’ll get plenty of opportunities to impress one way or the other this season so I’m chilled. Time will tell.

It was interesting to see where he was deployed. I was expecting Berge to be pulled deeper to accommodate him but he wasn’t. Looks like Hecky genuinely sees him in the Fleck box to box role which is very exciting for later in the season as he could play a fair few games in either role.
Incidentally I’ve been waiting for Doyle to get a shot at Flecks position when the time was right, and it was a joy to see. Doyle excites me as I think there’s a realistic chance of keeping him if we go up and although he’d cost a pretty penny, what a signing he’s be. We’ve found our peak Bash upgrade, is Doyle the Fleck?

And last year RND was struggling in lots of areas and lacked quality. My opinion was based on then, supported by evidence. Those with eyes agreed.

Since Forest away in the play offs RND has improved a lot and is rightly getting the plaudits. I’ve given him due praise on the same thread I started. Maybe I got it wrong, or maybe the lad has worked hard and kicked on.

It’s easy to be wise after and take a swipe at people who are prepared to state a view. RND’s had an excellent run of 7 or 8 games. Long may it continue but let’s not rewrite history.

I hope people are not going to be larging it every time McAtee takes a corner and doesn’t hit the first man, or picks out a teammate with a pass. His assist for Bash last night was much more like it though.
It’s not about getting it right or wrong, generally most of us will agree who is playing well or not.

It’s about writing off RND after 4 games last season when experienced players were struggling under Slav and mcAtee after 45 minutes.

I agree both were not playing well in an isolated tiny timeframe but “NGE” (fuck you Garth Crookes) and “pants down” is bollocks talk attention seeking

Been very impressed with this kid in all the conventionally paced games. His set pieces were unbelievable on his debut, and his composure and time on the ball is already very evident, alongside his passing range. Luton was a one off: a maelstrom indicative of nothing.
I'm surprised people think RND wasn't impressive last season. His was a very accomplished first season in a Blades shirt. Exceptional in the defensive and mentality aspects of the game (for some reason people think this isn't a requirement of a LWB 🤣). His offensive output had also come on a lot by the back end of the season.

Ok, but my opinion stands that RND has only recently kicked on. So I’d argue that my criticism of him - in terms of the lad’s prowess as a wingback - was merited.

Can't see anyone mention the McAtee performance against Reading.

He started the game by taking on a defender down the left wing then whipping in a brilliant cross for Basham, who almost scored with an header.
Then you could see his confidence growing. When he received the ball he was very comfortable and played some nice passes.
He continued to take some of our set pieces and unlike at Luton, he put in some good corners.

Just shows what confidence, having time and space can do.
It was really needed and will no doubt put his mind at rest that the Luton game was just "one of those days where everything goes wrong".

2 events in the match that I liked regards McAtee was

1: When he went over to the Kop/ South stand corner to take a corner he received a standing ovation of support.
Thought it was a nice touch of support after playing so poorly last week.

2: There was a touch line squaring up to scuffle situation on the John Street side between Brewster (I think) and one of their big defenders.
McAtee sprinted towards them and broke them up, then stood in front of the massive Reading defender almost to protect Brewster.
Thought it was funny seeing this little boy taking on a grown man, the ref was close by but shows that McAtee has character.
I can give you a third thing that I noticed about him against Reading, too SS.
I just happened to be watching him just as the final whistle was blown and he gave a small, but very heartfelt fist pump in front of the John Street. I can only surmise from that that he's totally bought into what Hecky and the lads are trying to achieve this season and, after the emphatic win, he feels part of it all and is committed to really help the club.
There's no doubt hat Doyle is completely on board with it all after his excellent performance last night, so why shouldn't McAtee be as well. I think we've got a couple of excellent players here. One of them just needs abit more time and confidence, that's all.

What’s been clear to me is how difficult the LWB role is without a quality and consistent LCB. Likewise the LCB role is if you don’t have someone who’s playing well at LWB.
RND has had to play both positions in both circumstances and it’s no surprise that Lowe’s improved performances have coincided with Norrington-Davis settling in at LCB.
Personally I think Clark will still make that position his own this season but RND is improving massively with time on the pitch.
Our left side has been weak since Jack’s injury with us practically carrying zero threat down that flank coupled with being defensively weak on that side. Not anymore.

The title of this thread is so repulsive - can we all please stop bumping it + let it drift down into oblivion ?
I know I've effectively just bumped it myself but I plead justification.
If McAtee looks on here , i don't want him to see it popping up repeatedly , when the title is complete nonsense.

Wants deleting ideally

I believe that our fans need to accept that we are not a top six PL side, with the luxury of money to burn, and unlimited player choices.
Pep has clearly decided that we are a club capable of developing young talent. Doyle is clearly a bit further down that road. PH has been able to use his development and management skills to entice some talent to come here.
PH is on a different learning curve, with youth development experience to back him up. He might also make mistakes at this level. Putting McAtee in against Luton was his choice. He managed the error at half time.
Please accept that everyone is on a learning curve at this club. Some are further along than others.

The great thing about all this is the respect and reputation we have as a club outside Bramall lane. The other bonus is that feeling of togetherness that oozes from the first team squad.
The players are not driven by, or focused on this forum, thank goodness. :)

It’s of great credit to the lad that when he came on the other night , he showed no signs of letting his experience at Luton affect him in a negative way .

On the contrary , he played with confidence and composure and demonstrated some delightful skills .

As for the OP , it may not be the most childish and ill informed ever posted on here but is certainly one of the front runners .

Nails it...thanks
It demonstrates the lad can overcome adversity and must have character.....he's passed his first test.

Mcatee will be fine and get better as he gets more minutes under his belt. He did look shaky against a very physical Luton side but you can also see that he has got an abundance of skill so against a team where they sit back mostly he will be able to unlock defence well.

So fucking predictable. I swear this club is cursed. Just Anel back and we'd be pissing this.

You just know when a player starts to have a good game the injury curse hits.

Admin , can we please change the title of this to something less embarrassing - just call it McAtee

Thought he looked good today , seemes.to grow into the game

Oh ikkle boy,.................................. hurt myself! Get a Morgan or Whitehurst player in the team or both!

He's young, will be a slow burner. Showing glimpses of his ability, certainly. Showing plenty of inexperience.

Delap, who scored the tap in for Stoke's third, is having a similar season so far, from what I've heard/read.

He is 19 years old....he will be a very very good footballer. Good win next match all is forgotten and confidence will build in Macatee and our players....wait for lift off next Saturday and let's be honest the premiership is only the promised land of parachute payments to get back up again...enjoy the ride but I will like to win summat starting with the League Cup within 30 years cos I will proberbly be dead after that UTB 😀
