McAtee pants down

Go on, I’ll go first. Citeh have had our pants down with his lad,

He’s not ready for the Championship. He’s too weak and wet behind the ears, with zero league experience behind him. He needs a league one or league two loan to get some experience.

The new Foden he ain’t. And if he was City wouldn’t be letting the lad leave, and certainly not to us.

Barring winning us a pen vs Sunderland and passing the ball to a teammate thereafter for the first time, he was similarly abject. Tonight he’s been way off it, could have been sent off for two bookings and couldn’t even take a corner.

Get Doyle on or even little Blaster. McAtee does not belong in midfield. He’miles off and goes to show the ignorance of armchair fans and YouTubers who are sucked in by a highlights reel.

Don’t believe in the hype, believe in the man.
Confidence is a main part of anything in life. I have said he looked out of his depth, but that’s not his fault its Heckys for starting him , ( not having a go at Hecky cus I think he’s a great manager ) but he got it wrong and rectified it by bring Doyle .
Give the lad a chance McB’s had nearly two years !
But thanks for you post I am sure it will do his confidence a lot of good !

Behave.

You are the kind of man who spunks his load in 7.2 seconds.

There’s no malice directed towards the lad at all. I’ve made a snap judgement based on two cameos of seeing him. I think I’m on the money, but hope I’m wrong. I do agree with others who are critical of Hecky for chucking him into the lions den in a game like that.

One thing I would say is we have had a number of wonder boys in the past , and they have not reached the mark , I have always wondered why would there parent club let them go and not play them if there that good ? But yes he definitely got blooded last night .
On a plus side Doyle looks a player!

Blame Hecky for starting him tonight

Worst possible game to
Maybe that is closer to the truth than slagging off Mc atee.
As Hecki said post match he won't have experienced anything like that before.
ItIt'part of the learning curve and if hes as good as we are told then he wil learn quickly.
Getting on a young kids back is shocking! Wash your mouths out the minority doing this.

Said after WBA in the cup he needs to play in our final third as he’ll lose the ball if he’s near our area.

Completely the wrong decision to start him last night. Many in the ground were saying the same thing before k off.

He will show his quality when picked in the right games in the right position, playing alongside the right team mates. Like most players.

Stick with this lad and we’ll see goals and assists from him.

I hope he’s not found this site yet !!!!

Thrown head first into football puberty last night. Probably been said, but he's come from a club that enjoys lots of possession with a very weak press from the opposition.

I wouldn't throw him to the dogs just yet as he looked ok when he wasn't falling down!

Doyle though...
👍

A bit harsh when we haven't seen that much of the lad to be fair.

What was clear last night was that his experience and skills weren't right for that particular game.

A manager's job (with the available squad) is to pick the right line up to face the opposition of the day. As fans and commentators we have this wonderful gift called hindsight which allows us to criticize or objectively say we needed a different type of player to battle it out in midfield against a Luton side who were really up for it - even a big lad like Sander got dumped into the cheap seats!

Had our pants down the OP States....its a loan, with no obligation to play....and the best bit, he's played just 1 and half games. Must be great when you find a footballer or any sportsperson for that matter who hasn't ever had a bad performance, or made any mistakes. Can't believe a young lad like him hasn't scored 3 and had 3 assists already this season. In his 90 mins of footy.

Love the positivity and support 👎

He’s a young lad learning his trade, give him a break.
Hecky manages a Championship side, which is top of the league, and McAtee is regarded as a real talent by his manager and has been sent to toughen up in the rough and tumble of this league.
Some of our fans on here were ready to turn the tv off and get on their backs before a ball was kicked, and when we went a goal down you’d think we’d just been relegated to league 2.
Show some patience, these are good times, and good days, with a good team and manager.Lord knows we’ve had much worse over the years.
Yes, we will make mistakes, maybe some of the selections were wrong, and yes, no problem with criticism, but at least give it to half-time before the knives, and machetes come out.

Loads of bollocks.
He a skillful player, who needs to learn the tougher game.
Everybody knew that.

Why we have to get on a player's back at the first opportunity is embarrassing.

In the blue corner we have Pepe Guardiola and some knowledgable Man City fans who regularly watch under 23 matches,
They've seen McAtee play about 30 matches and say he's a massive talent and has a great chance of breaking into the Man City team.

In the red corner we have Lightfoot. He's seem McAtee play for about 100 minutes (1.5 matches) and reckons he's a dud.

Can you not see that writing him off after 1.5 games is totally insane, kind of embarrassing.
Although I agree McAtee looked alarmingly out of his depth last night, Berge was nearly as bad and he couldn't handle Lutons physicality either.
Don't know if they are feeding them steroids at Luton because in the 1st half Luke Freeman out strengthed Berge with a challenge knocking Berge into the stands.
But no one is saying Berge is crap because we know in home matches he can be our star player.

Basically Luton were totally the wrong opposition for McAtee. He will have never played a match like that before,
he came to play football not WWF wrestling with the ball being ricocheted around at 100 mph.

However there are positives, it will be a great education for McAtee. Also he's always been a star performer in previous matches so it will do him the world of good building to face adversity, it will test his character but lets not over react as ITS JUST ONE GAME.
Hopefully it doesn't effect his confidence too much but all the evidence strongly suggests we have a special player, with great times ahead this season.

Some of our fans seem to know very little about how football works. All I can think is that Football Manager has got a lot easier.

some supporter. We're so shit we're top of the league
You've missed the context of my previous post. I was pointing out that we shouldn't be jumping on Mcatees back, in the first half none of the team were really effective.

All that changed at half time. The formation was the problem.

Too early to comment on his ability but he looked completely out of it last night, it wouldn’t surprise me if he has the same illness that forced Wes off

How do you know how he will cope with the physicality of a team and game like that unless you play him?

Disheartening reading. He's young, will make mistakes and being at United is part of his development plan - which we'll hopefully share the benefits of. We need to show patience and support, not publish snap judgements based on one or two performances.

Oh dear
This thread is going to have a long life
I'm going to bookmark this for when mcatee lifts the world cup for England

Pep clearly doesn't know a good player when he sees one , and is useless at coaching which his why he has sent him to us, add to that the fact he has been training around very poor players , makes you wonder why hecky has bought him in

The one good thing about last night for him is that if he does have any big billy bollocks pretentions then he's been rudely awakened.

As for the physicality, I can't remember any moment he was given a kick or knocked around. He simply was poor and couldn't cope with being closed down quickly. He simply was far below the standard needed last night, but all players have poor games.
