McAtee pants down

Go on, I’ll go first. Citeh have had our pants down with his lad,

He’s not ready for the Championship. He’s too weak and wet behind the ears, with zero league experience behind him. He needs a league one or league two loan to get some experience.

The new Foden he ain’t. And if he was City wouldn’t be letting the lad leave, and certainly not to us.

Barring winning us a pen vs Sunderland and passing the ball to a teammate thereafter for the first time, he was similarly abject. Tonight he’s been way off it, could have been sent off for two bookings and couldn’t even take a corner.

Get Doyle on or even little Blaster. McAtee does not belong in midfield. He’miles off and goes to show the ignorance of armchair fans and YouTubers who are sucked in by a highlights reel.

Don’t believe in the hype, believe in the man.
Straight after the game this forum was talking about how the whole team had been outfought, all over the pitch, by Luton.
Why has this youngster become the source of all our problems?
He'll come through it a better player or he won't.
Why do you think PL teams loan out their youngsters?

It's a long season and this may be a perfect game to start the lad. Luton summed up most of the Championship teams that will play us. Press and be physical will be the blue print to beat or at least subdue us, home or away. The lad, I hope is a quick learner, will figure out that he has to be quicker on the ball and make quicker, smarter decisions. He knows he was having a bad game, the frustration on his face was evidence of that. He'll have to "dust" himself off and go again. He's here for the year and if his goal is to make Citey's first team then he'll come good. Take that to the bank.

Of course he’s not ready yet. If he was he’s not on loan in the Championship. That’s the unspoken agreement, he becomes battle harden playing in games for and we benefit from his clear talent. Once he calibrates to the pace and physicality of the league, we’ll benefit from his ability. Last night was a Hecky error, and IMO he should shield the lad from any blame.

Plus Luton are next level cloggers that 30+ year olds struggled to cope with.

What a load of crap, it was his second game, he will need time and also find his best position, it’s what happens when you loan youngsters, believe it or not they're not the finished article…

It's a learning curve, Brooks was similar at the beginning we didn't lose Hecky sorted it half time move on.

Can't see anyone mention the McAtee performance against Reading.

He started the game by taking on a defender down the left wing then whipping in a brilliant cross for Basham, who almost scored with an header.
Then you could see his confidence growing. When he received the ball he was very comfortable and played some nice passes.
He continued to take some of our set pieces and unlike at Luton, he put in some good corners.

Just shows what confidence, having time and space can do.
It was really needed and will no doubt put his mind at rest that the Luton game was just "one of those days where everything goes wrong".

2 events in the match that I liked regards McAtee was

1: When he went over to the Kop/ South stand corner to take a corner he received a standing ovation of support.
Thought it was a nice touch of support after playing so poorly last week.

2: There was a touch line squaring up to scuffle situation on the John Street side between Brewster (I think) and one of their big defenders.
McAtee sprinted towards them and broke them up, then stood in front of the massive Reading defender almost to protect Brewster.
Thought it was funny seeing this little boy taking on a grown man, the ref was close by but shows that McAtee has character.

I think picking him at Luton away was a huge mistake. Last night was a perfect game for him to start. He did well when he came on. He's young. It happens.

One thing I would say is we have had a number of wonder boys in the past , and they have not reached the mark , I have always wondered why would there parent club let them go and not play them if there that good ? But yes he definitely got blooded last night .
On a plus side Doyle looks a player!

"Why would their parent club let them out if
they're that good?"

Really? You're talking about Man City.. they've got one or two half decent players last time I checked.

Hmmm
Apologies but I’m struggling with your (lack of logic)
Why did Citeh let Doyle come 🤔

Thought he did well last night and against sunlan even though he looked a bit shell shocked by Luton's amphetamine fueled tactics but he will be OK

Fuck me, hes a young kid, at a new club, playing a totally different style and pace of football, hes obviously not going to be Ronaldo is he!, oh, but hold on, let's smash him to pieces and piss on his chips, let's proer RIP into him and make him feel shit, yeah, that's the way to do it!
FFS.

He's clearly a very good footballer, but not used to the intensity of games like last Fridays.
Yesterday was an ideal time and situation to bring him on.

One of the worse footballing options I’ve read in a long time

That’s a bit harsh. He did ok off the bench as an ‘option’ last night ;-).

I’m pleased we’ve got so many McAtee glass half full experts on this forum. If opinions nosedive when they take off their rose tinted specs, you can do us a graph.

For every Phil Foden there’s a Ben Woodburn. I sincerely hope McAtee works out. Seems a nice lad who is clearly talented and well thought of. But that doesn’t mean he’ll work out for us right now.

I want us to go up - we’re not a charity for Premier League clubs to see if their prospects can sink or swim. It’s going to be a long season so let’s hope McAtee works out - I’ll be chuffed if he does and will take my lumps accordingly.

I’ll also support the lad wholeheartedly when in attendance home and away. But this is a forum where I can debate with like-minded others and I’ve stated my view. Some of you need to put your dummies back in.

And last year RND was struggling in lots of areas and lacked quality. My opinion was based on then, supported by evidence. Those with eyes agreed.

Since Forest away in the play offs RND has improved a lot and is rightly getting the plaudits. I’ve given him due praise on the same thread I started. Maybe I got it wrong, or maybe the lad has worked hard and kicked on.

It’s easy to be wise after and take a swipe at people who are prepared to state a view. RND’s had an excellent run of 7 or 8 games. Long may it continue but let’s not rewrite history.

I hope people are not going to be larging it every time McAtee takes a corner and doesn’t hit the first man, or picks out a teammate with a pass. His assist for Bash last night was much more like it though.

Nothing wrong with stating an opinion or criticizing a performance but if you rush to judgment on a player (“not ready for the Championship”) after watching him for 45 minutes then get ready for some ribbing if it turns out you’re wrong.

And that’s absolutely fine. I can take a ribbing, but they also may have to climb down from their perches if the lad fails to deliver.

I reckon the OP might look a bit of a silly c*"t by the end of the season. We'll see though.....
