McAtee pants down

Mcatee is young and learning, best thing we can do is take him off to protect him ask Sander to go forward with Doyle next to Norwood. Like to see Brewster for Mcnugget after 60 mins. Ps tin hat at the ready. Still think we look more composed just final ball 🤔

It didn't take long for the over reaction to appear tonight.

He's having a poor game, true, but he shouldn't have started this game. Luton are closing us down too quickly, it's too physical for him (and others). The ref isn't helping as he has no idea when to give a foul, a yellow, or nothing. Baldock booked, then McBurnie gets pushed 6ft and it's not even a foul?

It's been frustrating but we've had the odd passage of play that shows we're still in it.
Were being out muscled all over the pitch.

He's having a stinker but this is reactionary bollocks.

Big learning curve tonight. Sink or swim. Hecky perhaps wanting to show intent with him team selection. It hasn't worked.

Being on a yellow means he should be pulled, he's a yard off the pace and now only a slip away from killing the game for us, and a ban.

In a different situation he'd be playing further forward but he isn't getting in the team ahead of Ndiaye and Berge right now.

He looks like a boy in a man's game
He'll learn so much from this experience
I don't want United to be giving him experience. I want United to be winning this game. We aren't. I'm not going to blame McAtee because he's one of a few that haven't yet turned up (and I doubt the second half will change that either). Yes McAtee has been poor but as said, this isn't a game for him. Blame Hecky. Reyt waste of 45 mins.

Not his fault, he needs a bit of space to play, and he isn't going to get that in tonight's scrap so shouldn't have been playing, Doyle to replace him 2nd half.
Mind you we've made it a scrap by being unable to make a pass or control a football properly.
Also needs Khadra to stretch them and support Ndiaye who can be left upfront on his own for me.

I'm pretty sure McBurnie doesn't ask his team mates to hoof it over his head, but every tie he plays that's what he gets

Because he was so shit it did Doyle some good, gave him a full half and competed well in the same conditions that McAtee struggled. Plenty of time for McAtee to come good in other games and he knows what to expect now.

They were all shit tonight…But we got a point out of it. Just shows how important the lane is going to be this season.

Go on, I’ll go first. Citeh have had our pants down with his lad,

He’s not ready for the Championship. He’s too weak and wet behind the ears, with zero league experience behind him. He needs a league one or league two loan to get some experience.

The new Foden he ain’t. And if he was City wouldn’t be letting the lad leave, and certainly not to us.

Barring winning us a pen vs Sunderland and passing the ball to a teammate thereafter for the first time, he was similarly abject. Tonight he’s been way off it, could have been sent off for two bookings and couldn’t even take a corner.

Get Doyle on or even little Blaster. McAtee does not belong in midfield. He’miles off and goes to show the ignorance of armchair fans and YouTubers who are sucked in by a highlights reel.

Don’t believe in the hype, believe in the man.
🤡

Would be nice if Doyle and McAtee could push each other on. I can’t ever see them being on the field at the same time, So a little bit of competition between the pair, might make them both into better players.

Not the best game to play the lad, but he’ll learn from it. He doesn’t play the same position as Doyle he’s an attacker.
Games like Reading and Swansea he’ll be a big player

Terrible tonight but given there was a thread previously complaining about him not starting, maybe give him some time?

Give the lad a chance. I thought he was good against Sunderland but had a poor game tonight! His dead balls were shocking. Who’s worse the you tubers or you who watches him play an hour of football and makes a judgement

This game would have been made for Fleck if he was fit with plenty of nastiness and aggression but not to be.

McAtee had a bit of a stinker but Hecky recognised it and took him off.

If in a dozen games time, he still can't kick the ball more than 3 feet off the ground, we could say that we have an issue but he had a bad night against a team of cloggers, so we move on.

Didn't get going and some of his set-pieces were poor.

But I'm sure Pep isn't retaining him at City because he's a nice lad.

He'll have a steep learning curve but there's enough performance out of him in his career prior to this to suggest he knows how to play football.

I'm prepared to give Pep a bit of time on this. I doing see him being the second coming of Michael Twiss just yet!

The kid struggled. No doubt about it. For a bit of balance, Freeman had Berge in his pocket for the first 45 minutes. So Let’s get rid……
