[MATCH OFF] Erm... has anyone seen the weather for Sheffield on Satdi?

Been a while since I've been able to make a match, bought my ticket yesterday so I've decided I'm cursed.

Tenner says the match goes ahead but I can't make it across from Mansfield.

The BBC is promising a snowapocalypse starting early tomorrow morning and continuing until early Sunday morning.

Do you think the club ought to be recruiting shovellers now?
Thats not snow, love, thats a dusting ;) Problem with the UK is that it shuts up shop when a couple of flakes come down.

Problem is that no one can do hills + snow + driving around here.

Doesn't take much for everything to grind to a halt.

Although I have to praise the contractors the council have out-sourced all the snow shovelling to this year (Amey?). Most of the paths on the main trunk roads that were treacherous in a morning were cleared and gritted by the end of the same day so at least if taking the car was a non-starter, it was safe to walk. Council tax well spent.

Coucil are expecting 6" of snow over the next 36hours,but are well prepared for it.

6" ... whatever!

Totally agree. They did great the other week. Last year (or year before) was horrendous

Police involved with the decision....? Health and Safety gone mad.

I guess that means we won't be playing with the Orange Balls then. Apart from you Linz. ;)

If the match is off on Saturday, the only plausible date for a rearrangement is this coming Monday or Tuesday, either the 25th or 26th. The Monday would be better, as both Brentford and ourselves play on Friday. Failing that, it will have be a Thursday, which means one week it will be Sat, Tues, Thurs, Sat, Tues. That, as much as our inconsistent ability to win games at home, could be the deciding factor come April 27th.

Certainly a concern. We need to be talking to Brentford now about this...

From the OS - What the bloody hell does this mean?

* The club has arranged to Verti Drain the pitch down to a 10/12 inch depth on Friday morning, to help with drainage.

Basically, they make some holes in the pitch, to aerate it and to allow water to easier drain.

You must have seen pitches with signs of dotted holes?

So why didn't they say that?

;)

As for seeing a pitch with dotted holes I have had a problem seeing and recognising the players most of the season, however, I have had two cataract operations recently which should help. I had my left eye done before the last home match and could see the players really clearly and could recognise who was who(m) (no more nudging my mate in the next seat - "Who's that player?")

I'll look out for these dotted holes then - if they aren't covered with dotted snow....

:D

Operations director Dave McCarthy said: "We are doing everything within the club's power to ensure Saturday's game will go ahead."

He added: "Ultimately, however, the decision could be taken out of the club's hands, with the Football League and Police involved with the safety of players, officials and supporters taken into account.

"We have been advised that if we lay pitch covers in this particular instance then, with the expected snowfall, there will be the problem of removing several inches of snow on top of the covers. It would be very difficult to remove this amount on Saturday morning in time for pitch marking and ready for the warm up.

Very difficult? Not really:-

Only problem was - we lost the damned game.

Same here. It would suit me as well - working this weekend.

It now wouldn't suit me as my holiday has been cancelled due to my bosses realising that next week is Easter Week - if Tesco did breweries...

I've been told that if the match does get rearranged for Monday or Tuesday (we discusses the important issues surrounding work you know) then I can have that night off, but it will be a bit of a pain getting up and back - heaven knows, I might even have to hitch. Naturally, I will still be there, but you know, I prefer the easy life these days - I've got a nice train booked at great cost for Saturday, including going all the way down to Brighton after the match for a gig.

Worth noting that there are engineering works between London and Sheffield on Saturday; chuck in a bit of snow and it will surely lead to chaos - I predict I will see neither Sheffield or Brighton on Saturday.

Does Foxy have 'em sprayed?

If Foxy has orange balls, does he sunbath naked?

Verti draining is an action performed regularly on Golf courses, it helps relieve compaction of the soil and aids in drainage and the growth of grasses.

Hope that is the reasoning behind it.
