"Sheffield United are leading the race to sign Livingston striker Marc McNulty, Sky Sports understands.
Nigel Clough is keen to lure the highly-rated McNulty to Bramall Lane and the Blades are thought to have made contact with Livingston.
Livingston are resigned to losing the 21-year-old this summer with a host of clubs credited with an interest in his services.
The likes of Rangers, Birmingham City, Aberdeen and Dundee United have all been tracking McNulty, but Sheffield United are in pole position to land the forward.
Clough is a long-term admirer having tried to sign the player when he was in charge of Derby County, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.
United are thought to be trying to thrash out a fee with Livingston as they look to reunite McNulty with former team-mate Stefan Scougall."

Sounds feasible, especially given Clough's recent comments about signing someone to play with Scougall.

He had a trial with Derby while Clough was manager, scored and played well:-

He agreed to sign for Clough at Derby for £150K but the deal collapsed because Livingstone demanded a larger fee.
However, he has a release clause in his contract that Rangers were hoping to exploit:-

5 Foot 10 inch Striker. 21 years old. Scored 36 in 78 starts (+ 25 as sub) for Livingstone in Scottish Championship.

If he's the mutts nuts then let's hope we can do a swap deal with them involving Lyle Taylor going the other way.

We can only hope. As with Scougall, a bargain of a deal, so we hope this will turn out the same, and Scoogs should be a good influence on the guy so time will tell. Love the way Nigel is spending the Prince's money wisely but not dropping his quality thresh-hold.

I notice Snodgrass and Dorrans came form Livi, so clearly a club that has a talent for developing young players.

I like that fact that we are already seeming to be planning for next season.
We know were we will be next season before the finish of this one. When was the last time we didnt have anything to play for at the end of a season & we could plan ahead???

Lyle Taylor was`the mutz nutz`this time last year was he not????
Gotta trust mr clough though.

Yep, and not so long since people were pessimistic about Scoogs based on Murphy and Flynn.

Thing is gav, Nigel didn't buy Taylor. Of the players that Clough had brought in only Paynter has failed to deliver so if he decides to buy McNulty it'll be a gamble worth taking. If he comes close to delivering what Scougall has contributed we'll have a forward at last.

I thought Aidy White was also utter rubbish. Somewhat fortunate in the end that he got injured when he did, as I'm not sure signing Harris was necessarily a priority till then. Didn't he also play left wing at times ahead of Murphy?

I'm putting the White & Paynter signings down to them probably being the best on offer out of a limited number of options at the time. Much more confident based on the rest of his signings that we'll get the right players in this summer.

You're right mate, maybe that's how forgettable White was, well spotted

Quick wiki suggests Scougall and him were at the same Hibs academy together and subsequently played together at Livi. Happily gamble on him if we get another more proven striker in seeing how well Scougall has adapted.

Cloughie's interview today "No one takes your first offer ..................."

Guess the risk is someone else with money right at the moment willing to bid higher because MM is at the top of their wanted list.

So refreshing to hear Cloughie intimate that most offers would be open for a fortnight or so but move straight on to the next target on the list if it isn't accepted.

The only caveat he said was keeping an eye on the few that might still be available in a month or two (not suggesting that's the case here).

Too many recent managers have faffed around and ended up with poor choices.

What's not to like about how Cloughie does his job ?

I would think that we are at the front of the queue for McNulty so we will go back in with another bid as NC said we were not far away so he sounds pretty confident
