The first one is a Lane, it even says so on the sign.

Second picture is an Entry, because it's an entryway between two houses.

The last one is a Muggers Paradise, where scrotes secrete themselves in hoodies, jogging bottoms and Lonsdale trainers waiting for old people who've just picked their pension up, or done the weeks shopping.

There is no Ginnel (pronounced Jennel) in these pictures.
This is a proper gennel (kennel)

It's not an exact science but this is what they have always meant to me.

An alley is a wide gap between buildings or houses. I think everyone can agree on this one.

A ginnel is somewhat similar to an alley but narrower. I understand it's called a gennel in Sheffield but we pronounce it ginnel with a hard G.

While I agree entirely, my other half from Bradford wouldn't distinguish the snicket and Gennel. Both would be a snicket.

And even weirder, Kendalian's would refer to either of the above as a Yard

They call a ginnel a ten foot in Hull apparently.

You say that, but I know of a few Entry Lanes around 🤷

So, bread roll, bread cake, teacakes, baps, buns... ?

And why do I get weird looks when I call someone mardy or nesh?

Int English Brill!

A bread roll is one of those little things you get served with soup in a restaurant.

A breadcake is one of those big fuckers you get from the chippy to make a chip butty with.

A teacake is the same as a breadcake but smaller.

A bap is just another name for a breadcake, they're the same thing.

A bun is a sweet treat you have for dessert that sits in one of those paper liners.

Easy.

A teacake has fruit in.
Don't forget in Notts it's COB 🙄

It’s a ‘jitty’ and not a ‘jennel’, ‘ginell’ or ‘genell’.

It’s also not a bread cake, it’s a bread roll.

You Yorkshire weirdos.

A snicket is a pathway or a shortcut that usually goes through a grassy area with trees, like down the side of a park.
