Didn't expect that.

The chance to get him for below £2m has now gone.

Signed new contract at Peterborough. Thread closed :-(

It's a bit statement from them, shows a lot of ambition.

I'm not overly worried though, I know he's talented and exciting but I'm happy with the options of Duffy, Samir and Brooks - If we're going to offer 6 figure fees, I'd sooner we direct them at a striker.

Wilder would not want a disruptive element in the dressing room. Due to careful management he's created a squad that clearly plays for one another, so the type of character he decides to bring in is as vital as any other quality.

Quite simply, we have to trust our manager rather than see this as a missed opportunity. Wilder will know far more than anyone else about what's involved with signing a player, so another page turned as we move on. UTB

Think he probably only re-signed with them as he recognised he wasn't going to get a move. Bit suspicious to re-sign on deadline day.

Nope. Dont want cheating dickheads like that near my club. Next.

He's a natural twat isn't he. But a talented twat.

Too expensive for us now anyway. And not really needed unless we sell Brooks.

Sheffield United keen on Peterborough winger Marcus Maddison. #sufc #twitterblades #posh

This guy has often being on the money in the past and if we are interested it can surely be as a replacement for Brooks, as others have said. I was sure Brooks would stay but it seems speculation is increasing and I think we'll cash in, which I think is a mistake, but there you go.

The only way this wouldn't be a Brooks replacement is if he's got a sensible release clause.

Do you mean would be a Brooks replacement Ricky?

No, I'm saying that if we're to sign him without selling Brooks to fund it then it'll have to be because they agreed to a release clause when he signed that new contract (probably £2.5m or less).

No release clause and Deluded Darragh will be wanting about £8m.

With or without selling Brooks, they'll be wanting silly money for him but he could still be a decent buy if Brooks goes. A minimum fee release clause is probably needed though as you say.

If wilder wanted him he would have got him for 750k in the summer before he signed his new dea. None starter

He signed a 3 year deal last season. Their chairman told him that if they didn't go up he would be allowed to leave, just honouring his deal.

But by him extending his contract it ensures P'boro will receive his full value transfer fee. Smart move from their Chairman. That in itself is likely to put him beyond Utd's reach even if CW wanted him.

“Reading have shown an interest in Marcus Maddison, but they haven’t made a bid yet. Marcus has some incredible stats, but we might not get the millions we originally expected for him.”

A quote made recently from Barry Fry. I would love for us to bring in Maddison if he fits within our budget this season, will be plenty of championship clubs in for him though I would suspect.

Maddison on his day is class. He appears to have done well last season too, despite wanting to leave he knuckled down and scored 12 goals. However I'm not sure we need another number ten unless its anticipating Brooks leaving.

So are we still interested now we've given them Louie Reed or is it just chinese whispers?
