Except for the initial Chong/Seriki partnership down the right, we are completely bereft of creativity in other part of the field. And I've not heard Cannon's name all game....

Decent performance until the last 5 minutes when our achilles heel defending corners came back to haunt us. Should have been 2-0 up with Rothwells miss. Also definite penalty but we dont get those. Then again could have been all level if Cooper hadnt saved. Seriki looks sharp going forward but needs more support now Chong gone off. As for Chong good 20 minutes then his hammy goes again. Peck looks better with Rothwell alongside him

Mansfield will be a test second half there two big forwards Smith and Oates will be on. We'll see if its another rearguard second half action or we actually go out and try to put the game to bed. Tactics second half as always will bear scrutiny.

Really scrappy and untidy play for most of the half,nobody holding the ball up front, frequently out muscled, midfield should be dominating games like this,getting on the ball,picking out forward passes and working as a co ordinated unit,but O'Hare,Peck and Rothwell are not looking anything like what's required

Positives

Chong looked good linking up with Femi

Femi lols quick in to the tackle (needs to work on passing)

Peck doing what peck does - massively under appreciated

Bamford looking good

Overall a decent team performance for first 40 mins

Negatives

COH having a terrible game and is not a left winger

Rothwell is just not good enlugh

But at least you know they are on the pitch … Cannon on the other hand ..

Peck has consistently made big tackles broke play up and found a man with a pass every time … what more can he do

Pretty typical standard of football for a curtain raiser. Both sides look sloppy at times, but both have had moments here and there where they've looked like really assuming control of the game.

I know there's folk around who prefer us to play 2 up front, but I'm worried about us choosing to not play a 3 in midfield.

Sacrifice Cannon for Jairo, and you have a solid midfield core who are all adept at ball retention. Rothwell can continue his forward runs like he has today, without being so concerned about defensive responsibilities.

Perhaps a 4-4-2 suits the more counter-attacking approach we seem to be taking up, but I'm worried that having only 2 in midfield will see us outplayed by the majority of Championship sides who will play with a 3. We're seeing a variation of that today, with Didzy dropping deep to be a 3rd midfielder at times to move the ball upfield.

Trying not to be negative, we are doing ok, but this is a solid LG 1 team we are playing. I'm frustrated about our out ball. We don't have the speed or foresight to move it quickly. There is a semblance of a team. We need to remember Wilder is defensive based as a manager. We will be back to 1-0 wins, clinging on. With Soutter, we may be able to do that.

You're mistaking 'him' with the working together as a unit I am looking for,there was individual bits and pieces of good play,it's not co ordinated as a unit,the fluidity,domination, creativity needed from the individuals.

Cannon has scored 26 goals in the Championship over the past four seasons.

That's not going to turn any heads but it's still not bad for a 23 year old.
