Mate I couldn’t disagree more (love you and 95% of your opinions and listen to all your podcasts the minute they come out all the way from over here) but to describe him as a midfielder is incorrect. He was a 10 most of his career and more in the Brooks mould than the Fleck. I still thought he performed well enough deputising for fleck but wasn’t surprised when he made way for him. He was brought in with a very specific role in mind; the 10 in a 3412, when we dropped the ‘1’ for a flat 3 he has no chance. To not rate him based on that; I will just say, if we’d brought in Bruno Fernandes at that point for that non existent role he wouldn’t have played and you wouldn’t have rated him either. Doesn’t make him a bad player. The same goes for his time at forest. They were so fucking defensive and had no room for a player in his mould. They were flat as fuck with a focus on keeping clean sheets so the idea of a guy like Freeman playing the ‘free role’ is as alien to them as it was for us under boring premier league era wilder.

If I’d said to you 2.5 years ago we would be in the championship playing a ten, who’s experienced and proven enough to do that? I doubt you could come up with a better suggestion than Luke Freeman and he’s our player we don’t even have to sign him. Seeing what Slav got out of Cairney, I’m incredibly excited about what he can get out of Freeman. I do feel like (and don’t take this the wrong way) you’re looking at this player in a very narrow minded way. It’s gonna be like a new signing for us and if he didn’t belong to us we’d be crying out to sign him in my opinion. Keep up the good work with the Cobra Kai podcast x
Good comments, when I saw Freeman for Forest back end of last season they stuck him out very wide left and he seemed to spend a lot of time in a defensive position.

He was decent deputising when Fleck was injured, tbf, early doors in 2019/20. And plenty felt he was unlucky to lose the shirt at the time, when our Scottish hero was fit again. He was playing in an alien position, too, left side MF, and still did well in those few games at PL-level.

Lots of water under the proverbial since then, of course, and he’s not flourished at Forest. Though there could be many reasons for that.

If he wants it enough, and if he can get properly fit again, and if Slavo fancies him, and if he’s played in the right position, his record says he has proper pedigree at Champ level and might be a major force for us next season.

Lots of “ifs” there. Fingers crossed. GLTTL.
Seems to be a lot of rewriting history with Freeman. As you say he came in, did ok keeping LCM warm for Fleck. Started in the 2-2 at Stamford Bridge, not outstanding but did a job.

Once Fleck came back and the flat 3 that performed so well that season were bedded in he never got a look in.

I was delighted when we signed him, not because of playing FIFA, but because everytime I saw him play either live or on TV, he really impressed me....

... until he joined us of course

Add him to the long list of attacking talent who were exceptional before we signed them and turned out to be no better than bang average for us...

Ricky Holmes
Samir Carruthers
Florent Cuvelier
Dave Kitson
Daniel Bogdanovic
Henri Camara
Brian Howard
Lee Hendrie
Geoff Horsfield
Paul Shaw
David Johnson
Ashley Ward
Jack Lester
Paul Furlong
Ian Rush FFS!!!

Lester was good for us!

hes a number 10 and as soon as chris decided to play a flat 3 all season he was never going to get in the side

Another one that has flattered to deceive and was signed, you would have to assume, based on a distinct lack of research !

👀.

More assists in the Championship than anyone else in recent times. Can't recall the exact stat.

I can't imagine the guy who has spent most of last season on the bench or injured is going to help our promotion push to be honest. now at the age of 29.
Injuries, who knows, maybe an issue.

The age of 29... Not an issue

Recent being 4 years ago 😉.

Not been impressed with him in a Blades shirt.

Forest couldn’t wait to get shut by all accounts.

Big summer for Freezie !

He's had a poor season but blighted by injury and fitness.

Over the last 5/6/7 years (or something) he's created/assisted more than almost anyone else in the Championship. I can't recall the exact stat, but I bet it's somewhere on this forum!

Basically he's consistently been a top performer in the Championship, without even playing at a promotion challenging club.

Boggy Boggy Boggy?!

To write off Luke Freeman is daft-

This 3 minutes shows without doubt in a set up for him he's got it...

YouTube doesn’t even get Ravel Morrison a club anymore. At some point as a professional footballer you have to actually perform well on the pitch within relatively recent history.

Don't think his chances were helped much by the decision to play a flat 3 in midfield DB. Why on earth was he signed if he was only ever going to be a Plan B option at best?

Well this is a cheery chuffing thread!

Welcome back Luke, I rated you years ago, was delighted when we signed you, disappointed that we changed the system, understood why you couldn't then get a game, and felt it a shame when you were sent out on loan.

Fresh start, clean slate this summer. Crack on. UTB 🔴⚪⚔️
Hear, hear 👍🏻⚔️
