Left exposed and you have no chance and look the fall guy.

Long isn't that bad....certainly no worse then probably the rest of the keepers over the lower two leagues. All of them make mistakes....that's why they are there rather than the higher echelons of the game.

He now has 2 years to earn a pay rise and fulfill his early potential.
A good manager will have said..."Have a blinding season, improve the areas of weakness and come see me again in 12 months"
Hopefully, the squad will earn a pay rise following a promotion.

I can't see how some people honestly expect us to sign a keeper that never makes mistakes, communicates well with his defenders, claims every cross and stops every shot.

If that keeper exists... he's not going to be playing in League One.

Long is more than good enough at this level.

I'd heard the same. The sticking point being that Long had only been offered a contract with a reduced salary and that's why the negotiations took a while. Fair play to him for signing, I suppose it also depends on whether there were any other clubs sniffing about.
