Agree that no goals mean no wins. Thats jusy stating the obvious. So the poor result today wasnt just down to Long's latest balls up. But by the same token its also stating the bleedin obvious that if you have a goalkeeper who gives the defence no confidence by continually making glaring basic errors then that is gunna put more pressure on the team and the teams confidence suffers. A decent goalkeeper is absolutely fundamental to any successful foorball team. At the moment the team are immediately under pressure as they know they have to at least score 2 to win a game.
Whilst i agree ironic cheering helps no one, it is just a build up of frustration shown by the fans to Longs episodes of poor displays. To be fair to the lad the club dropped him in it when he was a pup as the great Simmo the Clown was in urgent need of dropping. Long came in as a young kid clearly before he was ready and his lack of confidence battle might have been shattered from this point. Hes never looked truly confident in himself to the present day.
Still SUFC do not exist for Georges career benefit. If we had bought the lad 2 years ago from another team you can bet he would have been slated for more and would probably have been booted out by now. In fact i think the fans have been very forgiving and patient with George particularly because he came through the youth system. But patience only stretches so far when mistakes are continually made and results suffer. Grorge is currently a very average 3rd tier keeper with confidence issues. He needs dropping and to spend some time as a back up keeper again. You cant keep hiding behind youth and age forever. Tracey was only 20 when we got him from Wimbledon and i would argue he was a far better keeper then than George is at 22.
