“Bruce had his skipper Jake Livermore harshly red carded for a committed challenge on Aston Villa loan man Conor Hourihane”

Say the silly sausages at the BBC. Easiest decision of the night for me

It’s a horror challenge.

Second red of the season for him and, as was said in commentary- he has a problem controlling himself

They could use that clip for referee training to show a red card, it was text book red all day long. Excessive force by lunging in from distance through the back of a player. What more do you expect

Hourihane made him look like a proper cunt and he saw red mist.

I was surprised at Brucey’s team venturing over the half way line to be honest. Thought it would be a standard cowardly performance with 10 men sat on the 18 yard line.

If he missed him with the right leg he made sure he got him with the left, horror tackle through the back of Hourihane who was lucky not to be seriously injured. How can anyone say that is a harsh red card???

The lunge is pretty bad in the modern game but you can sometimes put them down to desperation and a rush of blood to the head. What really makes this one is the follow through with the left leg. Completely pointless and the kind of thing that causes nasty injuries. Bruce is considering appealing and all I can to him is good luck with that. They don't overturn reds at the best of times.

Their report also said Billy had a header disallowed and he scored the second with his left foot..
Aye

“Grady Diangana galloping down the middle with the freedom of Sheffield spread out before him, but he dithered alarmingly and did not even get a shot in as John Egan [🤔] made up 10 yards to block”

Yet another dinosaur ( a la Bowyer) who hasn’t cottoned on that the laws have changed since their playing (sic) days when they were given carte blanche to boot seven shades of shite out of folk because of who they had payed for

Exactly. Already a four game ban as it’s his second red, why risk an appeal and an extended ban.
It was a shite pointless tackle. Suck it up Brucie…

Also commended Egan for a great last ditch tackle when it was Baldock.

Bruce should be annoyed with the player. Not the ref.

In the middle third, his body shielding the ball. How did he expect to get the ball without going straight through the man? And why did he need to be so reckless in such an insignificant part of the move.

If I was a West Brom fan I'd be fuming with him.

Bruce is talking absolute bollocks about if he didn't make the tackle the crowd and he would be on his back. He just had to jocky him, close him down. Maybe he's just trying to deflect but he's made it look like he doesn't know what he's talking about already.

Not sure how you play the ball when you come in from the back/side with limited visibility of the ball and I'm not sure how it isn't dangerous. It's the angle, where Hourihane doesn't see him coming, that Whitehouse lost his career through.

Looking at the footage he’s gone through the back of him, and a scissor challenge.
Clearly a red card.

Bruce can moan alll he likes but he’s just deflecting some of the blame away from his players. He’s a new manager at a team seriously struggling to save their season now!

Sat in the South Stand it looked a bad challenge.
I looked straight at the ref & he very quickly looked at & spoke with the linesman in his headset. At the same time he tapped his top pocket where he kept his red card. He was probably just checking it was as bad as he thought it was and his intention was clear. “He’s going for that.”
Linesman must have nodded or said ‘yep’ or summat & off he went.
Don’t think the ref was ever in any real doubt, just making sure he’d not missed owt.
Livermore. Twat. Bad challenge - though not wholly unexpected.

It's the type of challenge they seem to be trying to outlaw.
I haven't seen a video replay but like Lundstram (the other year) maybe Livermore did win the ball.

In the past, as long as you win the ball, a player could challenge as hard as they wanted, they could follow through and take the player with them
but this isn't allowed anymore. If he did win the ball then you can understand why Bruce think it was harsh. In his playing days it would be allowed with Roy Keane and from an earlier time, Graeme Sounes doing these tackles all the time.

But times have changed....in todays culture (thankfully) overly aggressive challenges (even when winning the ball) aren't allowed.
