DCL starts tonight for Everton (on merit) v Man City live on Sky (watched by millions). He was sold by us as a 19 year old for little over £1m .... 51 weeks ago.

What is he worth today? On a day when Chris Wood (rejected by WBA & Leicester) as not being good enough fetches £15m.

With the Walker & Harry money in the bank - we MUST surely hold onto Brooksy until he delivers on the promise FOR US and if sold in the future it is for REAL money and not chicken feed as was DCL.

Totally agree with that.

Brooks is ten times the prospect DCL was.

I've said before that I've no problem with us selling our young talent (of course I'd prefer us to keep them) but the time to sell Brooks isn't now. Let him shine in the Championship and he could be worth ten fold what he's worth now. Then we can decide whether to stick or twist.

DLC is being coached by a top level manager so it's no surprise he has come on since his days with us under twadkins.

But the lesson always is - if we must sell young talent - we must make sure it's not for peanuts. Especially now we are in the championship.

Just because a young player misses one chance against Crewe/doesn't instantly look like the finished article in the very limited first team opportunities they do get doesn't mean they can't be a good player and a valuable asset. That's one lesson.

Another is not to sell a young player when you've got very little to lose and potentially a lot to gain.

He's just an incredible athlete and it gives him a massive advantage. He never stops moving. He would've been a better option alongside Sharp than Done last season.

DCL watch.....basically he's being used as a target/outlet for the Everton players. He's expected to get hold of the ball and keep it, bring into play advancing Everton players and also provide a break for his defence to regain composure and shape when under pressure.

To be fair, he's working hard, he's controlling the ball and covering a lot of ground. Assist for the goal and has been awkward for the City defence to track and deal with, with his pace and closing down too. He's doing his job basically.
Still doesn't look to have a goal in him, but if he's doing the job expected of him that won't matter.

You've hit the nail on the head basically ! Jack O'Connell. Sold by Brentford to us and he is now one of the best defenders in the league in my biased opinion and the team that sold him now look weak at the back !. Koeman took a 'risk' and its paying off with DCL. Loads of players get released/sold and then reinvent themselves. David Brooks was release wasn't he ?

Whats DLC actually done

He's played a handful of games for Everton
Hes probably worth a million just now

I know you believe that SUFC have never, ever, ever done anything but make absolutely every decision spot on since 1889 but the above statement is so ridiculous it's untrue.
You must be McCabes love child.

DCL happened to also score the winning goal in a World Cup final. But let's airbrush that inconvenient truth out eh.

It was the only real sale of a young player I wasn't against. He had shown nothing up to that point so how he managed to fetch even £1m was beyond me. At the time, it was a phenomenal sale for us. If he manages to make it in the Prem then very well done to him but no blame can be placed at the door of the club on this one.

The next tv deal could be massive meaning PL teams start with 250 million per season.
This means 100 million transfers will be relatively common.
Let's imagine that Brooks will be the real deal in the PL
Means he could easily be worth £50 million in 5 years.

So would people say if Man City offered us 20 million for Brooks we should refuse it?
Then what if Brooks agent now asks for a new 5 year contract on £30K a week, should we pay it?

Yep....as we know football is all abart opinions.

Koeman seems to like DCL....Wilder didn't look like he was going to use him a lot based on last pre season.
Brooks was released by City by someone in their academy....that person may end up regretting that desision. Likewise, the person from ththe academy who picked him up after his release looks very smart.
It's a fine line, and makes it interesting I guess,

Got to agree with this, there was pretty much no one against this sale at the time. Most were in shock that we got a million plus for him. Plenty rewriting history now...

At least we've got these issues, being worried about great academy players being developed and getting poached for decent money by bigger clubs. Some clubs and fans are tearing their hair out how little they've produced over the years.... just look at them at hillsb*r*gh

I agree that Brookshas shown more at this stage - I believe Everton looked at the physical stature of DCL as well - he's got the height, pace and power to develop well in the Prem.

Some of us still thought the sale was too cheap and questioned the point of the academy if were going to sell them so soon.

Anyway if we keep saying he will end up like Jordan Slew often enough then it may just happen.

Will everybody stop talking about a million pounds like it's a lot of money in football

DCL will go one of two ways
He will do well and move on from Everton for £50 million

Or he won't make it at Everton and move to a lower Premier League club for £12 million

I think DCL was probably more about unlucky timing as much as anything. After a poor time with the Madkins regime, he'd probably left the club in his head before Wilder had chance to change his mind. If we'd got Wilder instead of the mad one, maybe DCL would still be with us. It's a short career relatively speaking so decisions are made a season at a time

Show me where you said that and show me where I have mentioned where I have said anything about Jordan Slew....

I think the latter tbh.

The lad looked nothing special to me. Bill Dearden was ten times the player, a hundred times maybe? Different era I know. And Bill Dearden cost nowt! Sign of these crazy times I'm afraid.

No I agree, he's a £10M player now. If we'd been in the Championship when we sold him he'd have been £4M but we were in League 1 and 'didn't want him' so £1M. Wilder never got chance with him and that's that

Clearly you aren't watching this game then.

Even the Everton fans don't rate him, apparently he's been underwhelming for them so far. They call him Kooman's love child.

However I do agree in tonights game he played really well, it's far and away his best performance ever in an Everton shirt.

However it helps that Man City have pushed up and there's loads of space to run into on the counter attack.
Seriously doubt he'd have done anything for us last season attacking packed defense in league 1, he'd have been ineffective.
However against Boro and Cardiff he'd have been a good player to have in the side where he use his athleticism better.
So agree that now we're in the Championship he'd have been a real asset for us.
