Out of contract, not signing a new contract (which after PL interest wouldn't happen).
Achievements so far (including no. of appearances)
Arbitration.
Would've been lucky to have got 200k for him.
Why do so many people ignore these points, is it so we can say he's worth X million and have a pop at the club again?

On a side issue, whilst my sole concern is supporting the blades, I would be very happy for DCL to have a long and successful career (especially if we have a sell on clause, and he goes to PSG!) - as there didn't seem to be any of the petulence and games playing that went on when other players have been angling for a move or demanding more playing time (with there being a long list of arrogant wannabes including Diego).

He had a long term contract 8lade . I think your getting confused with Ramsdale who fits your scenario.

The main point in all of this is that the club is now in a far better position to keep hold of its young players.

Brookes, Whiteman, Bennett and Reed are the next 3 who CW has to decide if any of them are going to impact on his first team. If he says they wont, then if a club matches our valuation then they will be sold. At the end of the day it boils down to what another club wants to pay for your player.
Lets say DCL is worth £7M now. If we had kept him and he played 10 games for us in L1 he would be worth no more than he was when we sold him. Thats because at Everton he has the platform to play in European games, Premiership games. Now with a sell on clause he is worth potentially £3m to us and that figure is rising.

The next batch of Semple, Slater, Graham, Ty Smith, Hallam and Gilmoor are exactly the same although maybe 1 or 2 years away. If CW thinks they can contribute in the first team then they will stay. If not and a club meets our valuation of the player then they can be sold.

I dont think the Lookman from Charlton deal at £9m is the norm. Players going from L1 tend to go in the £1m bracket with add ons.

Being a Championship club on a good financial footing means all our players valuation instantly increases.

DCL helped us get promotion with the players we brought in. I'm not sure we would have managed it if he had stayed.

This is the only response needed to any DCL thread.

Hopefully, we have clauses in the sale.

What are we even bitching about?

When we were in League 1, the only aim was to get out of League 1. We were there for 6 years, it was becoming a joke. We couldn't stick with a youngster in the hope that he'd turn out to be amazing and then we'd sell him for millions more, we just needed to get out of the league.

If we deemed DCL surplus to requirements, and could get a bit for him to strengthen our team to achieve our goal of promotion, then so be it.

What's actually happened here, is we let a player go that we didn't need at the time and we brought in players that were influential in a season where we won the title and gained 100 points, finally getting out of the league.

He wouldn't have played. He'd have been playing for the Under 23's every week. Would we have still made the signings we did if we kept him? Maybe, maybe not. Would we have still gone up had we not made the signings? Probably? Maybe not.

For the last 6 years we couldn't, now is the time we can look to the long term.

I absolutely agree. We used the DCL money well last year. My point regards Brooksy now (& hopefully Whiteman in the future).
Everton through their scouting network knew that DCL was special in his age group in terms of his ability & athleticism & recognised that (at the time) he was unutilised & undervalued by us. In 12 first team games - he has made the leap from half a season in League 2 - to mugging Vincent Kompany twice in the Premier (once for the goal; second drew a booking). Good luck to EFC their investment in potential has paid off. DCL has proved himself a Premier player. How many of his Blades teammates from a year ago could make that step up??

I really hope Brooksy plays well tonight & shows us (& the Premier) what a player we have in the making. And then if CW gets a phone call on Wednesday morning enquiring after him - he says ring us back in 12 months time - and double/triple that figure.

Brooksy has the ability to step up & our situation has changed. We need to nurture this investment and see how far it goes.

Someone at The Academy is earning their beans. I have no interest in the pigs, in fact they are dead to me and I don't even know their players ( easier when you don't live in Sheffield anymore). However, I don't hear of any little piggies being mentioned on Match of the Day or playing for England or anywhere really.

We keep producing these players and soon we won't be needing to sell em on before we have to...

I'm pretty sure the fact they released Vardy for being too small is a fact that eats away at them, plus Cahill was a Pig fan living in Dronfield who they never picked up, the fact he supported them seems to hold a bit of kudos, however the fact he played for us bitters the pill.

The next TV deal is more likely to go down. BT will just compete for the 2 small packages as Sky can't win them all. Sky won't need to be half as much next time

The last deal actually went DOWN per game, but as they are screening more so the total SKY/BT income is up.

The global sales have increased every time and this is where the big overall increase came from.

The EPL are facing a massive issue of piracy and illegal streams. As fast as they shut them down (and it is hundreds every match day), more shoot up. Long term the Sky model of charging punters £50 per month cannot last.

A new model where the EPL team up with Microsoft/Google/Amazon etc and offer EVERY game online can't be far away. By piling it high and selling it cheap, the cost per game might only be a few quid and you could charge more for big games (eg like Sky Box office) and offer 'season ticket' discounts for multiple games.

If you get half a billion people around the world watching you'd probably still make fantastic money at a quid per game and at that price you have virtually eliminated the illegal streaming. The official streams will be better quality and encoded, so it will be hard for the pirates to match.

Maybe at some point the bubble will burst is some other league becomes the new 'best league in the world' The timing of this is very east to predict. It is the season after United get promoted......

DCL didn't look a great prospect with us and it was a surprise when there was interest from the Prem.
Of all the young-uns we've sold, he showed the least at first team level bar Ramsdale, who barely played a game anyway.
As long as we have a sell-on clause, which it looks like we do, no real complaints on this one.

DCL is a quality player, however I feel he needed to move on to improve, win some lose some....remember Jordan Slew!

Ditto Will Hughes (to Watford from Derby for £8m) and Ross Barkley (Everton). Both of these have been treading water for about three seasons. They need/needed a move.

Goodness me people are beating a dead horse here.

Irrespective of his performances since leaving us, the kid couldn't get in our team! He was never, ever going to score us the goals to get us promoted like Billy, Freeman, and even Fleck did.

We sold an unproven youth player to bring in funds to sign players that contributed more than what he would have done as a bench player, Moore, Carruthers, Hanson to name just some.

What he may or may not be worth now has nothing to do with us or our decision to let him go.

I'm don't even know why there's a thread about him.

What is more important, is that a certain attacking midfielder we have has shown more promise than DCL ever did, clubs will pay big money for potential, we just have to make sure that if he does go we get a fee representative of the current market.
