I disagree with you.

In that if this was to pan out, one of Norwood or Coutts would have to settle for a place on the bench.
It’s an unnecessary deployment of resources when we are paper thin up top.

We have 3 strikers.

1 is categorically NGE.

1 is Meh !!

1 is Good if played correctly. But is limited in certain other aspects.

We are paper thin in midfield. If our midfield isn’t working doesn’t matter who we have up top

It suggests a paucity of funds, although why after the sale of Brooks is anybody's guess.
I mean, I doubt he'd have been played if there had been any understanding that a move to Wigan was on the cards.
It suggests that Tufty has had to sell him unplanned for the necessary funds to strengthen elsewhere.

Simply not the case.

Coutts Fleck Lunny Duffy Basham Lenny Bryan and possibly one or two others (Woodburn out wide ?) capable of playing midfield roles.

As against 3 out and out strikers.

It’s imbalanced.

In the games Evans has played I can never remember coming home and remember him playing except possibly Middlesbrough last season, in other words he was invisible but being the fair minded people we are we think give him a chance he will come good, well he hasn't, move on its football and I wish him all the best and hope he has a good career, bet Leonard partners Lundstrum tomorrow and Duffy is on the bench.

We used that combination (with Fleck being the third member of the trio) away at Brentford and did very well.

On the other hand we used Duffy, Fleck and Lundstram at home to Bolton...…………

Post Coutts our most successful midfield combination was Duffy, Fleck and Evans. We won 3 out of the 4 matches where that combination started. Leeds, Reading and Burton. Lost to Preston.

Despite Lavery not having a squad number and not having shown what's needed, he's still in the building as a striking option.

We are looking for someone in midfield who can turn ball round corners and release fleck Duffy and Woodburn. Evans couldn’t do that.

I agree we still need two strikers minimum but the midfielders you named are not better than Norwood

Starting to wonder if Wilder might give more of a chance to our academy players. At the very least I can guarantee they'd give a shit.

Should never have sent Slater out imo, get him around our first team, he looked fine last season in the first team and he's one of ours, that means something.

Give RND a chance, Stevens has been poor for so, so long.

Hallam and Smith, how long until one gets a chance to show what he's made of?

I'd play at least a couple in the cup.

I don’t doubt you to be correct.

The bit you are missing here is the imminent return of the prodigal son.

One of either Norwood or Coutts bench warming is an embarrassment of riches that could be better deployed in strengthening other areas. Specifically up top.

We have plenty of cover in midfield. Not suggesting it’s world class cover, but cover nontheless.

Confirmed in the stir - https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...er-lee-evans-to-championship-rivals-1-9293997

Blades boss Chris Wilder said: "When the offer came in Lee expressed an enthusiasm to leave so we decided to sanction the transfer."

Which to be honest should be the end of the matter in terms of the reasoning. Wilder’s consistently said throughout his time here that if a player wants to leave, he’ll let them, as he only wants players here that have a desire for playing for our club. Wilder probably hadn’t even considered selling Evans till he ‘expressed an enthusiasm to leave’ but I imagine it didn’t take Wilder too long to make up his mind on whether to allow the transfer.

In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if it was immediate.

You know what's funny, Evans could play against us on the day he signs permanently for them - we play them on 1st January! If we played them one day earlier he couldn't!

Hopefully we've arranged for it to go through on the 2nd.

I can see the problem in signing Norwood because it would encourage Wilder to stick with the deeper midfield 3 - because Norwood, Coutts and Fleck could all be seen as too good to leave out.

But having genuine quality cover for Coutts and Fleck overrides that. We haven't currently got any. And look what happened last season when we needed that cover.

Or it suggests Tufty sold him because the player said he would prefer to be at a club where he was well liked?

Does make you wonder why he'd be so keen to leave.

I won't miss him, mind. I thought his best game for us was his first, against Norwich. After that he seemed to develop an allergy to passing the ball forward, dribbling, and tackling. I reckon Lundstram is a better player.

My only concern is getting someone in to replace Evans.

It’s the Dane Whitehouse test.

‘We’ve received an offer for you’

‘I’m not leaving’

‘Good lad’.

Or

‘Oh, I’d be interested, can I talk to them’

‘Yes, close the door on your way out’.

So what’s wrong with
Lundstram Fleck
Duffy

Then

Coutts Fleck
Duffy

Or Woodburn for Duffy when he’s tired or has a hangover.

I hope that's what we see more of, starting tomorrow. Although I think Wilder sees Woodburn as a second striker more than a replacement for Duffy.

But Wilder seems to be reluctant to play Duffy. We can only speculate why. That means we need one more in, I reckon.

Clearly has some decent qualities and will probably do fine for Wigan and score the odd goal. For me though, his inability to tackle and the lack of forward passes were considerable drawbacks for us and our game.

Fear not. The Prodigal Son doth return by the month's end.

Upon which time, with him on the battle field, we shall reclaim our spot at the top of the division from whence he left us and it shall happen before the Christmas Trees are down.

Paul Coutts has no time for mid table mediocrity. Teams with him in them only finish top.

There it is

Seems to me that he never wanted to leave Wigan but Wolves wanted our cash, he was relatively happy here, but always had one eye on going back to Wigan from his comments.

He'll probably play better at Wigan, being with people he knows and likes more than us haha, so can't wait for the meltdowns.

He couldn’t really hold onto the ball like Coutts can. He couldn’t really cope with being closed down. If you’re the opposition manager your first thought would be ‘sit someone on him, stop them playing’.

Seems his move away from Wigan was down to Wolves wanting to sell him to us than Evans wanting to come.
Worrever.

If he dunt want to play for us then he can gladly feck off.

Why would we worry if he plays or not, he can pass it sideways and backwards for Wigan instead.

Is it coincidence that our team really started playing crap in Jan and was very hit and miss after Evans was signed,or were there other factors.
