Kop Chavs

True, I've heard great things about the hooligans of yesteryear, their class, boundary setting and ability to turn it off.

Even if this were true, it's you old uns that have voted to cut youth services, social services, education, benefits etc and destroyed the country. Shouldn't be surprising that society has begun to dip.
Yep, that’s my generation you are referring to, and I agree, we have made an absolutely shameful fuck up of things. It began with electing Thatcher and has motored downhill at a rate of knots to the point where we seemingly have a values free society.

Do the maths 🤔
Ok.

Population has increased, NHS is cut, waiting list in the millions, number of people claiming related benefits increases, time they are on the benefit increases.

Government goes "oh shit, costs are going up". To manage it, they cut disability benefits in real terms, kick loads of people off it and make it harder to qualify.

So the overall cost has increased at the same time as the service has been cut.

Can't beat a good owd Shakespeare sonnet at the back of the kop pal. 'Alas poor Yorath I knew him well.'

To F or Not to F '

That is the question.

I tried to get a chant going but too many chavs so they didn’t join in with my rendition of
‘Riedewald, Riedewald, wherefore art thou, Riedewald?’

Get yourself over to South Stand block A mate, we have re-enactments of Alan Ayckbourn’s most famous plays at half time…..proper entertainment.

Two hours maroon’d amidst youths whose tongues flap looser than a tavern door in tempestuous weather.

a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.

Describes some of our recruitment over summer quite well.

To be fair, the lad just near me did indeed cry out "a vape, a vape, my kingdom for a vape" before blowing it my way so not without class.

Next home game H Block are doing A Clockwork Orange

No, stay put! It will be made glorious summer by this son of Yorkshire, Chris Wilder....

Who can forget Neil Warnock’s famous lament to the Mr McCabe as the January transfer window loomed….

”A Horsfield, A Horsfield, my kingdom for a Horsefield”
This is why I love this board. Brilliance, shear brilliance.
There's no one like Blades fans for humour. Can't beat it.
Thanks Blades . Love it.

I think it's just society. How often do you walk down the street now and hear people using what would have traditionally been seen as offensive language without any care who might be hearing it or offended by it.

There are people on here who enjoy using words I would never use. That's their choice but to me it's shows a lack of empathy, particularly as kids may be reading it.

You could move to the South Stand but I don't think you will find it a cussing free zone. 🙂

Before people go in on me, this isn't aimed at anyone. It's just the personal view of an old fart.

As an aside, I do find one word particularly offensive and we all know the abbreviation for it ending in Tuesday. I did laugh out loud at my neighbours version the Cambridge University Netball Team. I apologise if I have offended anyone with that. 🙂
I’ll be honest, I’m one of those people who swears on here. That there may be kids reading it doesn’t concern me, after all, they’re not my kids to parent. I am a father of a now 22 year old, and she knew and still knows what the naughty words are and when it’s inappropriate to use them. If a parent is concerned that their child might learn to swear from reading something I’ve posted than that’s on them to teach their children the correct use of language, and when and where it should be moderated.

I also find it a bit silly that people will use words on here that are similar to the swear words we know them all to be. Cnut is one particular example that irks me. Just type the actual word like a grown-up. If someone finds my posts and use of the language inappropriate or offensive then really that’s their problem and not mine. My mother-in-law is fond of saying that swearing is a sign of a limited vocabulary, whereas the opposite is true, as we get to use all the words, not just some of them.

This forum also isn’t porktalk, where they have to use words like “fizz” and “wee-wee pipe” because they’re all naughty scamps and mustn’t upset the poor sensitive souls who post on there.

As to swearing from the crowd, when I took my daughter to the Lane when she was young I told her that she might hear swearing, some of it even from people other than me, and that those words weren’t to be repeated. It took a long time before she would swear in front of either me or her Mum. Mind you, she swears like a sailor’s parrot now….

Blair surely? And Brown and the dickhead Cameron after him. If we'd had a couple more like Thatcher instead of these marxist wannabes and WEF pussies, it would be a great country. Sigh, if only Trump was in charge.

IMHO if the worst your kid is getting exposed to on the internet is a bit of swearing on S2, you’re doing well.

Some of the dodgy stuff an old member of this place used to post weren’t so much near the knuckle, they were right up to the armpit. And anyone can read the General Blades Chat bit, member or not. Should I regulate my language in case someone else out there doesn’t like it? No, in case anyone was wondering.

I'm a fan of Owen Jones (The Guardian columnist) but nevertheless, this is a good read and comprehensive critique of the media and their anti-working class agenda.

Thanks for sharing. An interesting review and I particularly liked the section covering the idea that the working class communities are hardly homogeneous , which it sounds like posh Owen had failed to call out ( I've not read the book as he's not really my cyp of tea).
