remember going to newcastle and we won 2-1,around 72 a packed house new years eve, was on the terrace where the players came out and got Tudors autograph at the end , told him how much I missed him
car kept breaking down on way home , someone had got under the bonnet on my brand new austin 1100 (£455) and swopped their dodgy ht leads for my new ones, got home at 5am new years day
was always a favourite of mine , especially he was the one out of the 4/5 waiting to knock in the winner v the pigs after we had sportingly let them come back from 2-0 down to give them false hope

27th December 71. Currie and Scullion scored.

I thought it was new years eve cos I missed a big family party knew it was twixt xmas and new year
, memories going, remember my dad picking me up at redhouse roundabout at 4 am after car broke down for 5th time , was great when got new leads on it

Yes, I was in the North Stand (Tudor had left for Newcastle 3 months earlier) for that scoreless draw. Dont remember much about the match though

I'm still distraught we didn't get the obvious penalty for Grummit diving at Gil Reece's feet and taking him down close to the end, right in front of where I was stood (near the front on the kop end). Bloody robbery.

Tudor didn't feature in that song. He couldn't have, given that Hope had arrived in part-exchange when Tudor went to Newcastle.

Didn't it first appear in the programme for the Watford promotion game in 1971 with the lyrics attributed to John Harris?
Correct! The old grey matter is fading fast! :-)

United players surrounded the referee and I remember Len Badger dropping to his knees in absolute despair once it became clear the goal wouldn't stand.

A number of refs should be near the top of the list in the twats thread. I will start wit David Ellery. Chess fans just love him. Can we have a thread about refs who were twats, or worse?

Memory's going, it must be another game I'm thinking of. He was superb in the air, I've got this picture of him crashing a header in at the Bramall Lane end and now I don't know who it was against

Quite a choice of memorable headers from King Tudor. A rocket from a corner in a nothing end of season game against Norwich when marked by ex Blade Ken Mallender, another powered home against Newcastle in a league cup win. Seem to remember he was a handy centre half too, filling that role against Millwall because of injuries.

Wasn't there a Woodward version of that song

I remember we used to sing summat like this for Woody:

We've got Alan Alan Woodward on the wing, on the wing
We've got Alan Alan Woodward on the wing, on the wing,
Alan, Alan Woodward, Alan Woodward on the wing,
Alan, Alan Woodward, Alan Woodward on the wing.

From that song, one can only conclude that Woody was a winger. ;)

The song was Noel Noel , Tudors the king of Sheffield , a bit like the later day version of Porters the King of Sheffield

Possibly, to tune of 'Land of Hope and Glory',
We've got Hope and Currie
Gil Reece on the wing,
Dearden in the centre
And Tudor is our king

However, on JT's departure, Hockey became 'our king' and so on and so on..[/QUOTE

Remember it
Sung after one of those pinpoint crosses or after the ball hit the back of the net struck with the minimum of back lift

. Seem to remember he was a handy centre half too, filling that role against Millwall because of injuries.

Also played at centre back in the 5-1 away win (Woody hat trick) at Pompey in Sept 1970. He usually played at centre back in his Coventry City days

We can also conclude that his middle name was the same as his first name:D

I will add Bennett from Kent to that list.

Tudor Tudor Tudor score another goal for me ...
I remember the match v Newcastle. I walked onto the back if the kop into a big gap. Stood there and this lad walked over and took a swing at me. I pushed him away and all hell let loose around me. Eventually I got away. The police seemed to think I'd started it and it started again as some lads stopped the coppers taking me off. Bizarre.
Alternatively, "My eyes have seen the glory of John Tudor scoring goals" -

Yes, in August 1972. My dad and I were talking to him, his wife Ann and his mother in law before the match outside the players entrance in John Street. We agreed to meet again after the game. After a goalless first half, Malcolm MacDonald fired the Magpies into the lead. Geoff Salmons equalised for us with a long low shot after a free kick was rolled to him. Then Tudor headed the winner at the Kop End. I was upset with him scoring! after the game my dad then said "let's go and see John now". I shouted "No!". My dad then talked me round before I reluctantly agreed! When we came over to see John, his wife and his mother in law, my dad told John that he had to talk round me into seeing him after the match. John laughed and patted on my head!
Between 0:56 and 1:34

George Tyson would stand out on that thread as chief twat, head twat, double twat and twat twat. Unchallenged. What a twat, the lot of him! Twat.
