Been over to Galway, that's about it...been down the coast, as far as Dalkey and that's about it.

If you get the chance go to Cork , the city and county are great, as is the west of Kerry and all the way up the West Coast, they've opened up a route called 'The Wild Atlantic Way' which is a terrific coastal route all the way from west Cork to Donegal.
Easy to recommend I know but if you're busy not so easy to do, worth the effort if you can though.
 
Car aint over here, that's the main problem. Did fancy doing the ring of Kerry next year probably, dingle, places like that.

I was at a cousins wedding in Clare at the weekend and a number of people mentioned the Irish lads we have playing for us. I'm Anglo-Irish - father from Sheffield, mother from Clare - but despite my lifelong attachment to the Blades I have failed to convert any of them to the cause. :(

I saw this statue on my travels around the Ring of Kerry this year, I didn’t realise it had relevance to the Blades.

Whilst on the same trip, I stayed in an amazing guesthouse in Doonbeg. To my amazement, there was all sorts of Blades memorabilia behind the bar; signed shirts, scarves etc... Intrigued by this, I asked the man behind the bar what the connection was and his story was brilliant.

He told me that as a very young boy he was obsessed with Match of the Day and the Premier League and that he had felt so passionate at the injustice of our relegation from the Premiership in ‘94 that he couldn’t stop talking to his Father about it, unable to believe that cheats could prosper in such a way.

His Father, who sounds like a great man, turned around to him and “do you know what son, if you feel that strongly about it, you should support them....” and on that day, an Irish Blade was born.

He told me he still travels across for half a dozen midweek matches a season now. I loved everything about this story.

I implore all of you to travel the Ring of Kerry if you get a chance. The scenery completely blew me away.

That's a good choice, very scenic. Try to take in Kenmare it's very nice and you get to ask the locals why they haven't put up a big sign telling everyone about their ancestral connection to a famous person.
Moneygall lets everyone know about Obama, Ballyporeen advertises Reagan, Dunganstown is proud of JFK, but Kenmare doesn't tell anyone about Catherine O' Sullivan great grandmother of Margaret Thatcher. Wonder why? We had a very amusing evening in a pub there when I raised the question. :)

Well that's bloody great that is!

Dooneg is in County Clare, and despite my family connections and even living there for a while as a lad I haven't managed to persuade one of the chuffs to be a Blade, a number of them have been to the Lane with me but that's about it.
Yet over the other side of the county there lives a true Blade! I shall seek him out when next I'm over.

I had no idea of Obama's Irish connection until I unsuspectingly pulled off the M7 into the Barack Obama Motorway Service Plaza. Laughed my head off, then did some research to find out why on earth this place was named such, stuck in the middle of rural Ireland!

Been going over every year to see the family my whole life . Years ago when you traveled from Dublin to Clare you drove down the N7 and went through every small village on the way. Moneygall in County Offaly was one of them.

You now drive down the M7 motorway and bypass them all. After the discovery of Falmouth Teirney Obamas great,great grandfather they went a bit overboard!

The wife and I decided to nip in and have a coffee a couple of years back, bloody hell! there were flagposts lining both sides of the road into the village with alternating Tricolours and Stars and Stripes and the place was full of coaches packed with Yanks, we decided to give it a miss.

No offense scoots but traveling on the Darts , not much to brag about mate ;)
There is some very beautiful places to see in Ireland as I’m sure you know
Next time your in Galway , try and get out to the Arran Islands , the Atlantic Ocean pounding off the cliffs and up through the puffin holes are breathtaking

Cork boy , the real capital of Ireland according to them
Been over to Galway a fair few times , beautiful scenery, and I’d recommend the Arran Islands , you hire a bike to get around the island , you hear Irish ( galiec) spoken all the time TG4 is based there

As someone who had a County Clare mother and spent all my childhood summers in Clare I do tend to go along with the county rivalry thing which tends to be amusing in a piss taking way, as opposed to the sometimes aggressive rivalry between British football clubs.

Which is weird when you think about it, because when two Irish counties play each other they are fielding players from the actual counties involved making it totally tribal, whereas British football clubs tend to be represented by players from all over the place. Despite which I have attended four All Ireland Senior Hurling finals, over 84,000 in the ground, no segregation, 10,000 stood on Hill 16, everyone drinking together both before, during and after the match and no trouble.

Been seeing the Arran islands from the coast of Clare all my life and never visited. They're now running boat trips from Doolin so might go for it some day providing the ocean is calm!

There's a decent card room tucked away in Galway at the bottom of the high street. It's a bit scruffy but the atmosphere was great and they paid for my weekend break.

Well worth the visit, and I highly recommend it
Yes the GAA is an eye opener when you see fans mingling in pubs walking up to the ground together and no hint of hassle what so ever
Then your going to have our Derby in a few weeks and you’ll have armed police and tunnels for fans walking into the ground , and god forbid if they started drinking in any pub together In town before the game

I'm old enough to remember when it wasn't that much different at football matches over here. My mates and I who were split fairly evenly in support of both teams used to go to home games for both Sheffield clubs and stand on the Kop at both grounds.

We drew 1-1 at Hillsborough in one derby match where they went ahead from a goal scored by Johny Fantham at their kop end where I was stood and I took some right stick, it was all good natured and when Willie Carlin robbed them of possession on the edge of the box and set off like a pocket rocket toward Leppings Lane before laying it off to Mick Hill who smashed it into the top corner ( exact some place as Duffys bounce killer ) I had my revenge! :D

Don't think you could get away with that these days!

It would be nice if more often fans didn’t default to Player X Is Shit, particularly when new players are settling in. I’d have hoped that hasn’t needed saying given so many instances of this under Wilder, and that people might learn to be more patient. Probably fighting a losing battle, but you have to hope we might get to a point where that’s possible, we don’t get in a strop when the starting lineup isn’t what we expected, we don’t overreact when the result is occasionally disappointing etc
 
Christ, not that it should be a surprise, but what a load of tosh some people talk. No one gets every call 100% right, so this isn't a knock on those who thought Egan wasn't going to be as good as he turned out to be, but it's a right f*cking knock on everyone calling him and Wilder out after two games. Have a word with yourselves.
 
............there would be a few embarrassing faces if someone wants to trawl back to shortly after Basham was signed ;)

I mean if the I told you So is ‘don’t write players off as shite after 180 minutes’

Then I think that’s fair enough.

Boggles my mind we don’t at least let the guy settle in before proclaiming they are trash. Wilder had more than earned at least that courtesy imo.
