Aint he in the last year of his contract? I reckon weve paid about 1.5 to 2mill no more
They turned down 2 million offer from us last year according to Sky, so I reckon you`re about right pricewise. Brentford fans seem to think that is about his value and seem fairly relaxed about any possible sale. They are good at picking players so most likely won`t be weaker if he does go.

Could be Stearman that dips out???
No chance.

Stearman and O'Connell are first choice CBs. He's here to take Bashams spot. Unfortunately Bash goes back to 'utility player'

Current 1st XI:

Hendo

Egan - Stearman - JOC

Freeman - Evans/Coutts - Fleck - Stevens

Duffy/Holmes

Sharp/Clarke - McGoldrick

A trialist is our current first choice striker??? Interesting conclusion

Personally, I think the best defensive combination will just evolve, no need to try and pick the side right now. You can't have too many good players.

Exactly. Options options options.

Assuming there's not a kicker to come this will allow us to change formations and retain a strong spine.

I'm a stearman fan so thought I would check, while clearly results have been better without him in the side from these stats, I would say defensively we were very similar with or without him we just weren't scoring goals

With stearman played 28, won 8, drew 8, lost 12, scored 27, conceded 32

Without stearman played 18, won 12, drew 1, lost 5, scored 35, conceded 23

Stearman was also injured for a fair chunk of our cracking run. Bit unfair on him as he would have probably had a few more wins against his name then. I thought he had a pretty good season

Being good on the ball as a CB is worth a lot of money these days. Saying Egan is '£6m worse than O'Connell' would be an extreme way of putting it but I do think JOC is worth considerably more.

It’s being broadly reported as £4m.

Yes well... it’s what I’ve said many times on here, stats can be very misleading and are frequently misunderstood.

Taking 1/11th of a team and basing conclusions about results on that doesn’t mean a thing.

Not only that, but 87.3% of stats are made up on the spot.

Bash is the best overlapping CB we have, unless Wilder is changing his tactics Bash will be in the side. Maybe someone is leaving?

He's a proven championship player. If he can stay injury free, he'll be first choice.

If he was still in contract he'd cost North of 4m

Just because he's a triallist doesn't mean we don't know anything about him. He's been playing in the championship for the last 6 year's and has been capped at international level.

I know I'm being really negative here (and he's a brilliant addition in a much needed area) but I really hope we havent just spunked our entire budget.
well who knows what our budget is
according to some its a pack of wine gums
once weve spent money on 2 forwards wont be far off what weve takn in in sales

but not that some would admit

I wouldn't argue with that except to say perhaps there's an add on taking the deal to nearer the reported figure

He's got two years left on his contract. Brentford know how to maximise deals. Sell them at the right time and don't let the contract run down to the last year. Got him for nothing and probably selling him to us for something in the region of £3 million.

Aye but he ain't first choice till he signs, and I'd still have Leon as current number 1

Oh, you cheeky minx :) Expert? I suspect you're digging me out. I'm no expert, just someone with an opinion & an internet connection. And you know what they say about opinions, being like arseholes. :)

He'll be about the 4th signing in the last 20 or so transfers not to come from L1 or L2, and if he does equal/beat our record fee, it's only been set for nearly 11 years, so that's an indication of who we have historically bought & where from. But hopefully this is the start of a new trend in buying championship quality players for championship level fees. :)
It all comes down to whether you're a glass half full or glass half empty supporter.
Some of us are optimists; to me it's all part of being a fan. You have to hope things will get better, or it's not worth carrying on.
Some of you are pessimists, and always fear the worst. Arguably you have history on your side but it doesn't sound like much fun.
Either way, I don't think we should fall out about it as we are all Blades.
Having said that, our back three in a couple of weeks looks like being Egan (<Brentford), Stearman (<Wolves), O'Connell (<Brentford). All signed from Championship clubs. (And Basham, I think, came from Blackpool when they were just about still in the Championship, or had just been relegated from it.)
Glass half full here!

Where? I’ve only seen that figure mentioned on here

I think the rumour of 4m comes from Nixon quoting that we were close to our transfer record. Can’t see it being true myself, half that with an add on at best I hope

Maybe he was talking about McGoldrick, that'd be a record fee for transfers in the club shop. £29 for his name, number and patches.

Wouldn't be surprised if Egan is on his way in then maybe JOC is on his way out.

Just hope we strengthen with one or two who can score goals, teams with too many defenders and too strong a defensive bias win nowt with 3 points for a win.

Yep that’s the only place it has come from as far as I can see. I was wondering where it had been ‘broadly reported’.

Who would play left sided centre back?

He is pretty broad with his reporting to be fair.

So you're saying if Ronaldo was on trial, we wouldn't be allowed to put him as first choice because he's only a triallist?

Well yeah, not currently a player, and its all about opinions, but he wouldn't be my first choice starter even if he signed, mcgoldrick that is, not Ronaldo
