John Egan joins Burnley

Meanwhile we have 3 CB's on our books and one is Jack Robinson. Squad depth is going to bite us hard sooner rather than later.

Was hoping we would get Egan back on that sort of a deal. Is Liam Cooper still available?
Given how light we are, I'd have definitely kept him here as back up if he's fit enough to contribute in the first half of the season (which presumably he is if Burnley have signed him).

He's taken a one year deal there, so would have done the same here, which is minimal risk really in comparison to the risk of only having 3 proper centre backs.

Some of the criticism on this thread seems a bit odd as well, he might not have hit the heights of 2018-2020 but he was still very good in the Championship for those two seasons before last.

Great servant for the club but I hope he's shit an cost them buckets of goals.

Might be me and we don't know if he will recover but surprised the criticism of him on here. It's only season before last he was still very good in a promotion winning side.

If fit he's top end Champ easily.

A fantastic servant for United. I for one was surprised we did not retain him.
He struggled last year pre injury and after this serious layoff I'd be very surprised if he gets near being a starter for anyone in this league, wrong side of thirty as well

I could Google this, but isn't Burnley's squad insanely big?

This must be one of the daftest post's on this forum in yrs and that saying something, he hardly missed a game since he joined us up until his injury .
One of the reasons he's had that terrible injury, overplayed them all on the way up but him and oconnell were ever present..

Shit to see him in a fucking Burnley shirt though..

Edit : Good luck to him... wants to play football doesn't he..

Just the 8 centre backs.

Seems Ekdal and Beyer are injured and Dalcroix also hasn’t featured yet.

So suppose this puts them down to Worrall, Esteve, Egan-Riley, Humphreys and now Egan. Going to be some senior players taking good wages and not playing.

I suppose they will say they are prepared to pay 30,000 per week, 1.5m as insurance given they have injuries in this area.

If Burnley do not go back up this season they are royally goosed financially.

A lot seems to be on that guy Foster’s shoulders. As much as we have a concern with Moore, we do have Campbell who has played a fair bit at this level and Brewster. For them, Rodriguez is now 35 and Hountontji is unproven. Not even sure Foster is all that proven.

Not saying they won’t go up, but like Leeds before them, they’ve lost their cheat codes for the division.

Three of their five scorers have left since the season’s start.

The opportunity is there especially with keeping our key players. You just hope we capitalise rather than a dark horse like Sunderland.

They seem to be banking on Scott Parker's history of getting teams promoted.

Can't believe anyone would have a bad word to say about Egan. He was a fantastic servant to the club and a bloody good centre back. I think we'll struggle to ever better that CB partnership of Eg's, O'Connell and Bash tbh. He made mistakes in the 2nd Premier League season but, as a team, we were atrocious all over the park that year and Egan never downed tools (I'm looking at you Anel). He'll get a big clap from me on his return and definitely goes down as one of my favourite ever Blades centre backs.

Always seamed a nice lad and good player , we saw the best of him . Deserves a club but surprised at his move to Burnley. Hope he has another few years playing and gets a good reception on his return although doubt he'll get much gametime .
Must have worked hard to regain his fitness but like many after injury and age catching up is on the decline from his high standards , no shame in that . Good luck to him .
