Joe Mason

But we have missed out on a forward, and the pool is shrinking.
There's no woe or hysteria from what I can see?

Have we missed out?

The "pool" you talk about may or may not have included Mason: any shortlist of potential targets will have been dictated by Wilder. Since neither you or I know which targets Wilder has identified; we have no possible way of knowing the size of the "pool" or whether it is getting bigger of smaller.

The fact that you've assumed we've missed out and are running out of targets suggests to me (and I expect others) that you're being irrationally negative - hence the 'woe and hysteria' hyperbole

Maybe we have a striker or two lined up who Wilder thinks are better.

Only a select few and Jesus know at this point. Let's wait and see.

There's obviously been a new law passed recently that states it's illegal to express disappointment of any kind when a player signs for someone else. That would explain why so many on here seem to have such a massive problem with anyone who dares express such opinions.

The pool I talk about is one I like to call 'pacy strikers who are available' and both him and McBurnie from Swansea have gone to Burton and Barnsley in the space of a few days. Don't know whether that's confirmed yet.
But with our wage structure and budget we only have a finite number of pounds to fund said striker, as well as a centre half and striker. That pool get's smaller when each player who would've been a good option for us goes elsewhere.

I don't see why saying we've missed out on a good player is that negative.

Despite this being a rumour mill, and having a player suggestion prefix in place by the owners, suggesting players is stupid and saying we've missed out on them (as they're good players) is negative.

Every day is a school day.

Personally, I going to keep my powder dry for now and only express my disappointment if the players that have signed for someone else (that we could have signed), are noticeably better than the ones that we do sign.

If that's the case I'll go ******* mental, you just wait and see.

Fair enough, but there's nothing wrong with calling it as you see it at the time. It's a forum. And this is the Rumour Mill.

Ask Foxy and Linz to get rid of the 'player suggestion' prefix then considering it's that ridiculous.

Hmmm I sense you disagree. But that's fine. I find it weird. Doesn't mean you need to agree. I wouldn't ask for it to be removed because I love having the same discussions over and over again...

Two things spring to mind.

1. If it says 'player suggestion' in the thread title, it's a player suggestion. If you don't like the idea of player suggestions, ignore the thread.

2. A suggestion is just that, nothing more. It's not a stick to beat the club with because they've ignored your suggestion.

Apart from the fact that we can add suggestions ;)... I struggle with the logic and argument that because this is Rumour Mill... Suggestions without a credible rumour belong under rumour mill. It's not a rumour.

IF* that's aimed at me, how am I beating the club? I'm genuinely lost.
I'm sure there are irons in the fire I just think Mason would've been a good one. Nothing more nothing less.

Not specifically aimed at you but how do you think

Joined Burton.

We're running out of options now and a potential rival has taken a good one. Much better than everyone we have bar Billy.

Annoying.

"And if we weren't looking at him we should have been"

"We've missed an opportunity to sign a good player"

can be interpreted?

It may not look like it to you but it comes across as a criticism of the club, of our scouts and our manager, because they haven't signed a player you think would have been a good signing. That may not be what you meant but that's how it appears. That's why people jump down your throat.

People like making player suggestions. Maybe we could have yet another section specifically for that but given that 95% of rumours are unsubstantiated bullshit, it makes sense to put player suggestions in the same section. Providing people prefix it with 'player suggestion' I don't really see what the problem is.

The pool I talk about is one I like to call....
There lies my problem Danny, your definition - Not Wilder's.

You can't "miss out" on a player you were never in the running for.

If those posts are partially aimed at me, I would like to point out that I am not suggesting we never criticise the club or consider our weaknesses (as I pointed out in my original reply).

The point I'm trying to make is that 'negativity' shouldn't be based on conjecture.

I have no problem with player suggestions, in fact, I enjoy them. All I'm saying is that as long as we don't know the targets, and time remains in the window, then we should stop bleating and complaining every time player X goes to club Y.

Meh...gone to Burton.

Who cares?

Hardly the last striker in the world, and gone to Burton so can hardly be a feckin world beater.
As is usual though, we have the gnashing of teeth and stomping of feet because another club has signed a player that the amateur FIFA crew agree would improve our team! All this of course with zero knowledge or experience of professional football or the inner details of our club and managers intentions.

Jesus wept.

Joe Mason is a better striker than every striker we have apart from Billy Sharp. I have no idea why that is so hard to fathom, then again I doubt the club have done anything wrong in your eyes since it was formed.

I'm not being overly negative. I think we should've been looking at him yeah, so what?
I think he's a good player that would've improved us. Nothing more nothing less. Am I disappointed we didn't sign him? We've got a week so we are running out of time but provided we do sign someone of a similar ilk or even better then good. But I'm allowed to say things as I see them and as they stand surely.

And it's alright people saying 'hes gone to Burton hardly a world beater' unfortunately we're much closer to Burton's type of signing than Middlesbrough's. That's the market we're in.

And Jackson Irvine went to Burton too. He's a bit of a world beater to be fair!

If you're after likes by the way boys and girls, if you have a disagreement with me it's a sure fire way to get likes off the like machine that is Tunstall Fred. Bare that in mind.

Their squad isn't as bad as people think.
They have Mason, Luke Murphy, Matty Palmer, Irvine, McFadzean, Ben Turner and Scannell who'd all definitely improve our squad. They're not as doomed as Bolton and Barnsley for me.

I think you're missing my point here. You haven't said 'he's a good player, no more no less' you've said (and I'm paraphrasing to make the point) 'he's a good player, we should have signed him and we're twats for not doing so'. It's not always what people say, it's how they say it.

As I've already said in my previous post, it may not be your intention to say that but that's how it can be interpreted and that what gets some people's back up.

You're 'allowed' to post (more or less) what you want but if you word things to sound like a criticism of the club, with a hint of 'I could do better' then you're setting yourself up for ridicule.

That's all I've got to say on the matter, I'm not trying to dig you out, just offer a little advice that I was given several years ago (trust me, I've got a proper gob on me in real life) and that has served me well. Life's too short for petty squabbles on a message board and your posts are interesting and informative when you're not getting into daft arguments. I prefer to read the former but I appreciate that ultimately, it's nowt to do with me, it's not my job to tell you what to think or post.

Bollocks, I should have read that before I replied. You buttmunching twat.

They'll put up a fight again. I think Barnsley will as well to be fair, they'll get better. Bolton look most doomed, especially with Wheater and Vela injured long term, and I think Millwall will find it very hard too.

Scannell's a good signing for Burton, wouldn't have minded him here, we lack a right footed winger and he can play RWB too. Would've probaby signed as a squad player. Elliott Bennett would be another similar option.

Perhaps Wilder has his eyes set on a better calibre of player than Joe Mason?
Hope so. Don't doubt he's got his eyes set on that, whether we can afford it is a different matter.

I disagree with you. In fact, you have no idea just how hard I disagree with you. I'm disagreeing so much right now. I don't agree with you. Some might say my level of agreement is severely lacking.

Tunstall Fred like please.

Appreciate that entirely but I don't see how me thinking a good player in a position we need going elsewhere can get peoples back up. But I suppose people are affected differently.
I love a little argument, helps the world go round, I can be gobby when I wanna be anall but Pinchy and co seem to love playing the poster rather than the post. Then again a lot seem to like doing the same with him (I'm guilty).

I'm certainly not in the 25% most negative posters on here, put it that way. I just say things as I see them, and I want better than 'just' steering clear of relegation and if I think signing a player would help us do that I'll say so.

That's not to say Chris isn't aiming for a much better calibre signing than Mason but with our budget/wage structure added to the fact we definitely want a CB and CM I can't see how our money would stretch so far. Hence why I do think this is possibly a missed opportunity depending on our business in 7 days time.

Danny, you're a Junior Computer Manager clueless FIFA amateur armchair disgrace never been a real Blade get off my forum.
