fuck selling them, we always sell our best players on cheap keep them at whatever cost but you know what mccabe is like

By the same token you could say that CW/AK will leave also.

Though if all those mentioned were only interested in money they would have gone to a club that spends more in the first place.

If Wilder and Knill were both under 42 years old and German they'd walk into a mid-to-low Premiership job based on their win ratio & style of football with a nothing budget.

But they are middle ages English blokes who know the game inside out.

Somehow that poses a risk to an American/Chinese/Saudi Chairman.

£12m for O’Connell and £7m for Fleck would be reasonable.

Pretty sure Wilder would try and prise Jake Cooper our of Millwall to replace JOC. He wouldn’t be cheap though.

I’m more positive than ever these days regarding transfers and should either player leave then I’d trust the managers to replace well and maintain the forward momentum the team is making..

Recent signings have restored my faith somewhat..

I have no problem at all with United selling any of our players, provided that they are sold for the right reason, and the right price.

Apparently they are not discussing new contracts until the end of the season - when we know which Division we’re in and the ownership is settled (ho ho!).

Seems most likely that they won’t agree anything now as they both want to play in the Prem next season and don’t want to put their price up if we fail to go up.

Let’s hope that it’s us that can afford to pay them what they’re worth.

What is he like, apart from spending more of his own money than you can possibly imagine, for our benefit, being susceptible to some poor decision-making and caring deeply about Sheffield United?

Defenders don’t go for as much as midfielders

That rather depends on which defenders and midfielders, though generically I’m sure you are right.

Anybody who even dreams that we could get £15m for Fleck ought to wake up and have a wry smile to themselves. We wouldn’t get half that figure and would be daft not to sell in the event of an offer around £6m. He would fail in the Premier League. It’s a step too far.

I see Fleck's good form in the last few games hasn't stopped your ant-Fleck crusade.

You don't have a clue whether or not he'd make it in the PL.

So, if the unthinkable happens and we do get promoted, you're saying we should sell Fleck as soon as possible?

Nah not exactly. Look at half of Bournemouth's squad. Still been huge contributors to the team, (anyone remember ex-blade and bournemouth captain Simon Francis?!). I bet people said league one was a step too far for Vardy! Under the right manager any player can be excellent.

Luckily we have that. I think Flecky would be excellent in the prem under CW.

(However saying this.... I do think he may flop if you place him under the majority of prem managers, for example, i reckon he might've bench warmed for west ham, through no fault of his own... prem managers tend to love fashionable players)

Fair points. I’d still drive him to his next club in a stretch limo for £7m

No, at a reasonable time. He will need to be replaced though or be content as a squad player.

He hasn’t the speed of thought or foot to survive against top rate midfielders. They’ll leave him standing. He’ll give the ball away too often and we’ll be punished. He’ll get minimal assists and goals.

How many people said that the Championship was "a step too far" and our players would get found out? The vast majority of our present team could step up to the Prem & thrive in it.

With the exception of O'Connell and possibly Egan or Stevens, you could find short-comings in every player we have, using them as a reason to justify why they wouldn't make it in the PL. It's quite revealing that you've only decided to single out Fleck, again.

I shouldn't be surprised, considering how predictable you are, being the forum's resident contrarian.
It's so transparent: pick an opinion that you know will be unpopular, massively exaggerate it, run said opinion into the ground until you've got everyone's attention, repeat.

I’m not sure why people get so upset though. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, even if it’s subsequently proven to be a poor assessment. At some point Fleck may get the opportunity to play in the PL and then we’ll know if he’s good enough. Until then, we don’t. So it’s one speculative opinion v someone else’s speculative opinion; there isn’t a right or wrong, there’s no objectivity to it. It’s pointless having protracted arguments about something you can’t actually prove, something that is ultimately just one’s opinion.

I'm not upset, I'm just challenging Pinchy's opinion: he's entitled to critique Fleck, as I'm entitled to defend him.

I haven't said that Fleck will succeed in the PL, we don't know, as you point out. I was just saying that it's odd to single out Fleck as not having the required attributes, that's all.

It was a general comment on the reactions to Pinchy’s post, not aimed specifically at you.
