Getting vocal again on Twitter supporting the blades.
Once a blade always a blade.

He was doing a thankless job here. I think when things are going well it's nice to have avenues of communication to the club, and nice to have an approachable man like Jim to represent them.

However, twitter is full of morons, and when things were going bad, Jim got loads of unwarranted stick.

I like him too, and wish him well.

Nice bloke, but never quite grasped what it means to be a blade despite reaching out to the fans, drinking beer and taking selfies.

Loud and proud in victory.

Quiet and Non existent in defeat.

Not sure that's entirely fair, from what I recall he always tried to engage with the suporters win, lose or draw and would normally respond to tweats and FB posts, even when they were abusive. He always tried to reason with folk and that was part of the problem, he should have ignored the idiots.

Without meaning to go all philosophical, is it possible to say that another person doesn't grasp what it means to be a blade? Doesn't every blade experience it differently, and have a different definition of what it means to them?

As far as I'm concerned, Jim Phipps is a blade as much as you, me or the next bloke. It doesn't matter why he came to follow United, or how long ago. I've no doubt it means to him something different to what it means to you. But I'm equally certain it means to you something different to what it means to me.

So is there a set of rules that dictate what attributes you need to be a blade, and I assume what makes one person a better blade than another?

What ever happened, I don't think anyone can question that Jim is now a fully paid up member of the Blades family.

Attributes? Buy me a pint....top Blade! :)

For every nice or positive comment posted by someone on social media, there will be several negative comments from people who want to bring everyone down, very easy thing to do from a distance.

Positive spin it may have sometimes been, but I suspect it was genuine from Jim.

I'm not one that subscribes to the belief that someone can randomly develop a passion for a club. I think it's something you're either born into or something that you get attached to from an early age. So I always found his supposed undying love for the Blades out of nowhere a little dubious.

Did he have any first-hand experience of football before becoming involved with the Blades?

It was his job at the end of the day...now he might have enjoyed that job and look back fondly on it...but there you go...

I think you are wrong....Although being a Blade since the 60's and not missing many home matches I still have a close passion for a few other clubs....East Fife Raith Rovers and Hibs are the most with family and friends links.

Can't see any reason why a passion can't grow for another team?

It's so sad that the Jim Phipps experiment ended in failure.

Jim possibly encouragef a new era of open communication with the fans.

McCabe probably warned him about English fans and how his every word would be twisted against him. Phipps might have said we need to be honest and treat the fans like adults. McCabe will have laughed convinced over communication is always doomed to failure.

Jim went ahead and kept us in the loop as much as possible but when results were poor was accused of lying and he received regular insults.

The lesson learnt is the board shouldn't communicate with the fans.

So you don't believe in love at first sight then Barney.
I bet you told your wife that you loved her pretty soon after meeting her and we all know the reason why.

Don't think so, which backs up the point further. If the roles were reversed, personally I wouldn't be able to develop any kind of attachment to any other English football team let alone some American baseball side.

It's all opinions, unfortunately everyone has 'em. :)

Communicating with fans via Twitter was always going to end in tears for Jim unless we really got on a role while he was Chairman.

Some of the comments on there were vile, way over the top, the same goes for players. I'd stop them using it, it's rarely ends up a positive experience. Brayford went from 'He's not just any full back' to 'Piss of you're shite!!

Did anybody else see the abuse that Lavery got from the sad Porkers on Twitter yesterday, simply for Tweeting "Yesss lads!!!" when we equalised?

I would say that people fall in love with each other far more often than they do with a football club they have no previous connection to.
