A couple of injuries to strikers, and some serious thinking will be needed. Older Blades will remember left-back Cliff Mason playing (with some success) on the right-wing in 1960-61. For a Cup match, I think we had Bob Booker once play as the main striker, and he created problems with his unorthodox play. I don’t see us going the full Man City and playing without a striker, so who would be a good bet to take on an unexpected striker’s role in an emergency? Bogle? Jack Robinson? Basham? It might come down to something along those lines.

Charlie Goode?

Dave Tuttle played up front in the last 5 minutes in the 2-2 home draw against Leeds in 1994.

Colin Franks wore the number 9 shirt at home to Burnley in Sept 1978 and scored in the 4-0 win, Wore the number 9 shirt in the next two league games

Charlie Bell played up front in October 1966 and scored a goal

Wasn’t Charlie Bell a giant? Have some vague Central League memories of him

There is nothing like surprise. Who was the goalie who came on as an outfield sub for the last game of the season (Bristol City away?) Or have I made that up?

Berge smashing in a perfect hattrick as striker in the playoff final would be summat...

It was Carl Muggleton when we won 3-0 at Reading in April 1996.

Benstead was named as one of the two subs in the away match at Bristol City. We were about 12 goals more in GD than Port Vale who were 3 points behind us and Bassett wanted to play safe by naming Benstead as one of the two subs. He didnt come on

He played for the under 23 onTuesday and attended the Burton awards dinner last night, we can assume he not on the bench tonight.

Hecky said Osula was preferred didnt he?

Not sure he is happy at being recalled and not getting games.
Good. I don't expect him to be happy with a bit part role but it's up to him to force Heckingbottom (and Lester?) to give him a bigger role. At the moment he's not doing that.

For those that say why did we recall him, what would you prefer, we had so many injuries when he was recalled, and the club decided to let Burke and Mousset go, Jebbison was doing well at Burton so it was logical to recall him. In hindsight we'd have left him there because, with all due respect to Jebbison, he has looked way off the pace, I don't know why because when he played last season in the PL he looked quality.

Quite a few people giving him a pass because he's young. He's been well off the level required. Go watch his goals for Burton again. Some nice ones but a lot of scrappy tap ins.

Plenty of kids score young in the premier league doesn't mean that go on to have great careers. For every Rooney there is a James Vaughan
