Jebbo

Obviously people don't listen to Heckingbottom's interviews he has said on Jebbison that it is a big step up for him playing Championship football straight from League one. In training the lad is still getting up to the speed required at this level he is not yet ready to be put into the team and do 90mins. His time will come when Hecky thinks he is ready to contribute at the higher level, I have more confidence in Hecky and his teams judgement than the wailings of a few desperate McBurnie haters.

Tight game against play off contenders.

They could have been having a series of corners last 15 where we'd need McBurnie's height.

I can understand why he didn't throw a younger guy in.

This was a game with double Jeopardy at play. We lost and we'd largely need the games in hand just to draw level with them. Now win one of them and we're a point in arrears with 2 still in hand.

I'm sure his time will come pretty soon.

We have lost 2 and he's still not got on the pitch
We still have plenty of options up front, but one more injury and he will be needed.
I suspect we will see him soon anyway, even without injuries.

Jebbo has to offer some threat , can’t say that McBurnie does

McB is extremely frustrating for me to watch, but imo he was our main threat today.
Had a number of efforts at goal and a tad unlucky his turn and shot in the box didn't get through on goal.
Hudds defended in numbers and made it very tight to find space to get shots off and they blocked numerous goal bound efforts.

he's just getting wasted sat on the bench when he could be playing for burton
I agree he’s wasted here now but what happens in say mid March when Billy and McBurnie go down and see it for 3 weeks?

Not ideal situation as this is harming his development I just don’t see any alternatives

Offers something I think teams will struggle with, he offers height and pace which defenders don't tend to have both so would be a nightmare assignment, wouldn't mind seeing him at the side of any of our strikers as a result

If he was ready he would be playing! As much as i want him to smash it now i think we need to wait for him to be ready
Agreed, he will contribute no doubt. McBurnie nearly scored. If he had then the rest of the game would be immaterial. Basically he’s further up the pecking order than Jebbo. That’s ok. But it doesn’t mean that Hecky doesn’t think that Jebbo has a part to play when he thinks he can. And I hope he does because I think the lad can
have a big impact.

The thing is, we can’t call him back in March. Or April. So if we need him then, he’s here. No point letting him get games for the next four weeks if we need him in week five. Has anyone mentioned that?

He looks like a threat but never is

I can definitely see Hourihane and Norwood back with Gibbs-White for Hull.

I wouldnt’t be surprised to see Billy and Jebbo up top. We need some better movement there, especially at home and I don’t see McBurnie providing that.

The other alternative is N’Diaye but I think we also need to manage his workload carefully. Let him come on for Jebbo or Gibbs-White. It’s his first full season and we can’t afford to be losing him. Likewise if it’s going well, Billy off on the hour.

We are at the point where we can’t afford more injuries.

Yesterday was also sensible management. These are not one off games. They are a large sequence of games. If Norwood gets injured the midfield looks rudderless for key games. If Hourihane is out then we are stuck with the central midfield options that embarassed up last season.

One more key injury and the season goes down the pan. Hopefully the fans can get their heads around that instead of bemoaning not having their choice XI each week.

I reckon we'll throw him in against Hull. Definitley for 20 mins, but possibly even a start.
On the evidence of yesterday , neither Billy my hero nor McKnob will manage 90 mins on Tuesday - if Ndaiye starts instead of a misfiring MGW , Jebbo will get some time on the pitch

This is where we all knew the Christmas Covid Cancellations would hurt us.
7 games in 22 days.
If there is ever a victim in these types of circumstances , you can bet it will be dem Blades - the unluckiest club of the lot - we always suffer from every bizarre twist of fate that you can imagine.
And we are certainly in a precarious position with injuries just now.
Fingers & toes all crossed.
As Champers says , our season now hangs by the next injury.

Ideal scenario would be if we are 3-0 up against Dull with 20 -30 minutes to go put Jebbo on to get some minutes.

He’s better than needing 3 goals insurance against Hull. Give him a chance to prove it.

But yet Hecky thought Jebbison was ready for Premier League football and threw him into the mix there...

Yeah but only in four meaningless games in a team already relegated Hecky also had the likes of Brunt, Gordon , Osula in the squads for those games of our strikers only McGoldrick and a very low in confidence Brewster were fit for those games.

His development continues by training with the first team squad and probably getting match time in the next 17 games.
He will then be ready for the Championship, but what happens if we go up is a different problem the solution to which I would be excited to see !

There are three reasons why he hasn't started yet:

1. He is still adjusting to higher intensity training and style of play
2. He is still relatively inexperienced to play in a tight game against clever promotion rivals
3. This team depends a lot on understanding between players. It will take time for Jebbo to get what they are doing and slot into it.

Players don't just run about at random get on the end of a lucky pass, they work together on a plan in training so people know what type of runs they are expected to make, and the person playing the pass knows where to play the ball. That's what I think was wrong under Slav, half the team looked like they didn't know what the other half was doing. And second season under Wilder, it had got a bit too formulaic and stale, and worst of all, predictable.

If Hecky stuck him straight in the team and he had a mare, we'd all be slagging him off again.

It’s pointless to recall him and not give him minutes

Pointless in terms of his personal development.
But we're one injury away from needing him to start games. We're trying to get promoted. We need to protect the club's interests above all else. His time will come.

He will get game time without a doubt. we are down to Billy Sharp. McBurnie coming back from covid and Ndiaye who will be hit and miss at his age and struggles to do more than 60mins. Any one of these pick up an injury and our season is over we have to rotate them at some point.

On Tuesday I reckon it might we'll be

--Norwood--Hourihane--
----------Ndiaye------------

-----Sharp---Jebbo--------

Would not be surprised to see us rotating every game at the moment.
Was thinking along these lines, myself, but, tbh, I can't see Jebbs starting in front of McB, albeit only on 'experience'!. I can see Jebbs being given game time (20 mins?) if we can get a couple of goals in front. This selection also allows for several changes giving a variety of options upfront!, ie Jebbs for McB, MGW for McB & push Ndiaye up with Billy, MGW for Billy & NDiaye upfront with McB, MGW & Jebbs for Billy & McB - Play Jebbs as main/lone striker with MGW & NDiaye interchanging upfront alongside Jebbs.
