CONFIRMED Jebbison loaned to Burton Albion

Bear in mind that Oli Burke looked really good against Bristol Rovers of League One in the FA Cup last year.

Great to see Jebbison doing so well though, looks like being a perfect loan for him (and us).

My personal view is that if we were significantly higher (or lower) in the table then I'd say get him back. As it is we're charting a steady course for a midtable finish and it's a big ask for him to make such a difference to us that would propel us into a proper playoff charge. Let him have a full season at Burton IMO, Mousset will be gone at the end of the season and who knows with McBurnie, so we'll have a clearer picture of his role with us in the summer.
Obviously you have to take these highlight reels with a huge grain of salt. I'm not even using it to advocate for ending his loan in this window, not really. I trust the club and the player's representatives to make the right decision. But...

It's tempting, isn't it? I get your point about Burke (although I don't remember him doing some of the stuff in this video, honestly) but Jebbison isn't a 23 year old who's had one good game against weak opposition. He's an 18 year old who has scored 6 in his last 8, I think something like 9 in his last 13 in all comps, been watched by some huge clubs. If he keeps this up and ends up with 15-20 goals this season I find it pretty hard to imagine him staying with us this summer. There's a pretty good chance we'd never get to see him play for us.

Or what if we bring him back, and scores 5-6 (or at least makes a bigger contribution than McBurnie and Mousset) and is part of getting us in the play offs?

There's the sensible option and then there's the romantic option.

A massive IF, but if they continue to improve, gel together, play to their potential and they don't get sold a front 3 of Brewster, Jebbison and N'diaye

The only downside is on current trajectory, we'll struggle to keep Jebbo & Ili

Never understood that logic.

I want all our players to be so good that Real Madrid and PSG are bidding 30 or 40 million for them and they are sold.

It’s the business model Lyon, Ajax and Dortmund use. Always selling off their best players for big money then re-investing it on players with potential.

If we receive a rediclusly high offer then we’d be stupid not to sell Jebbison. As long as we use the money to improve our squad.

The same happened with Brooks, loads of talent but couldn’t force his way into our team and was mainly a sub. We receive an offer for 11 million and spent money are improving our team to gain promotion.

Basically the sale of Brooks was a significant factor in our promotion to the PL so it ended up being brilliant business.

Yep

Not downside in the purest sense, selling youth is integral to non-Premier League academy - and if we sell our prospects it means they have played well enough to get a move

Moreso the fact we wouldn't get to see the best of our youth in Red and White. See Maguire, Walker etc There's something special about having a youth player see long term success at a club, Billy as a prime example.

The reason he is out on loan has nothing to do with him building his career and everything to do with us having crap on the books that we can’t shift. Crap that has played just 726 minutes for us this season, championship minutes that Jebbison should’ve got under his belt. Let’s not dress it us as a master stroke in career development.
Really?

I’d put money on him being recalled tomorrow now with Brewster possibly out for a few weeks.
Got to be.

Basically we will have coughed up two centre forward options in the space of the weekend, added to Burke, makes three.

McBurnie is not fit and him and Sharp does not work anyway

McGoldrick doesn't feel like a starter at all.

The opportunity is there for Jebbo to emerge now.

It would be foolhardy of the club to not bring him back. Even if Brewster is fit for the next game, that was a warning sign. You could be relying on combined 70 years as your strikers in a make or break month.

You move N'Diaye and the dynamic of the team shifts, at least until Gibbs-White is back and he's coming back from a lay off so you have to be sensible. The option is there. His spell at Burton served it's purpose. His home club now need him.

If we don't look after ourselves and our ambitions in this scenario, then we are idiots.
I agree circumstances now demand we bring him back but I think some fans are already expecting too much from him with the Deane references, etc. There'd be a weight of expectation on his shoulders and I'm not sure he's ready for regular games at championship level. (I know he scored in the Premier league).

i dont think there would be too much, not from me any way! He has served a successful stint as a 1st team League One player now, so the natural progression is surely as a backup Championship / super sub type player? next season we could try him as a 1st team poayer

To be honest mate, I'm simply thinking in terms of bodies in the building and having options, rather than expectations and you'd have to hope that Hecky would try his best to manage those. I can't speak for others, though!

With Brewster out, Mousset & Burke gone / going and 7 fixtures in a month, I now agree it would be silly for us not to look after ourselves in the short-term. Jebbison would be best served staying down there, but we have to be selfish on this one (unfortunately).

Have to do it, cant rely on 3 strikers (2 mid thirty year olds and one who has hardly played) to cover all the matches we've got coming up.

He can start.on the bench and come on in the second half when needed.

In my opinion, he’s good enough to start. Mcburnies played 40 minutes, sharp (despite scoring yesterday) hasn’t been at his best and didzy just isn’t as impactful as he once was. None of those 3 have any real pace and sometimes feels like we’re too predictable. Brewster managed to get two players sent off, win a penalty and create that chance before he got injured all by utilising his pace. Just my opinion obviously but with him and Ndiaye already having a good understanding having played together in the u23s at strike partners I think it’ll be a seem less fit

I'm not sure if we have any players in our development squad that are ready for L1 football yet, but it would be nice to help them out if we are taking Jebbison back.

We've been on the wrong end of these early recalls before and it's far from ideal.
I’d have said seriki but I think Brayfords been doing well for them

Arblaster looks handy but it’s hard to judge his level and he got creamed against Burnley so might be injured. Osula has all the tools but has had an injury disrupted season so hasn’t been able to have that kind of resume building season in terms of goals that Jebbison had last year

I would probably keep him there for the season, starting and scoring goals!

You’d hope even with Burke and moose out the door (and even with Brewster on the sidelines for a little spell.)

  • C40m of signings in mcburnie/Brewster
  • the championships leading goalscorer in history in sharp
  • our player of year and scorer of vital goals last time out at this level in Mcgoldrick

Should be sufficient for a potentially dangerous striker force at this level. especially supplemented with ndaiye.

Lacks a little pace though I have to admit. But we have options who’ve all scored goals at this level before
