Bargain at that price, he's not going to set the league alight, but he strengthens the team/squad at a relatively low cost.
As others have mentioned, the issue will be competition from elsewhere.

After this clause revelation I can definitely see him being a top target. Maybe at the expense of McBurnie, unfortunately.

He'd fit into our team comfortably and seem quite a safe bet to get towards double figures. I think he'd be a Rob Hulse standard signing for us.

But he'd need to up his performance levels from last season, based on what I saw of him. Being in the PL at a new club would probably wake him up again.

Better chance of getting McBurnie, IMO. On balance, factoring in cost of signing + wages, I think I'd sooner have McBurnie as well. Think he'll bring more value to the club over the long-term.

You could be right but Rodriguez is proven at PL level so less of a gamble.

Wherever i look. Their all off to Aston Villa. How big a team do they need......

Agree with that on the face of it. But there will be a host of clubs keen on Rodriguez at £5m rising to £10m. It'll likely be an auction on wages and we'll be priced out pretty sharp-ish.

Yeah, probably.

If we are serious, and it is genuinely a £5m fee, we have to offer him something like a 3 year deal at around £70k per week. Total cost over 3 years £16m. Still a good deal I think.
In heavy brackets, it'll never happen though, sadly.

It's £5m rising to £10m, apparently. So that changes things. Plus while it's obviously sensible to look at the total cost of a deal (ie. transfer fee + wages) from a financial perspective, it won't resonate so much in future contract negotiations when players argue they should be getting paid the same amount.

For £5mil there'll be a lot of bigger clubs than us interested to whom 50k is fuck all.
Funny one this - if it was a bigger fee we'd probably have had a much better chance.

No chance we're going anything like that high. It would be a huge signing on fee if anything, not that much PW.

He has the ability, but as you say his performances haven't been what they should be. With CWAK highlighting time and time again about how important the right mentality and personality are, I'd be confident that if we pulled this off they'd have him back near to his 2013 standards if his injuries haven't made that impossible.
All in all, I'd be quietly excited about this one if it came off.

That would be even worse, paying a huge sof up front. Better to spread it weekly, for cash flow, and ffp.

I think generally we'll only get players who like what we're doing. They'll have heard the talk about how we play and CWAK, watched the social media coverage of the celebrations and team spirit and maybe think they fancy being part of that.
Players purely looking at the financial aspect or move to the biggest club won't end up with us, they'll be other teams in for all of them, but for those players who possible have already chased the money we offer something different. I hope Rodriguez fits into the latter category.

A lot depends on what's more important to him. Playing or money?

Burnley - Wood and Barnes
Bournemouth - Wilson
Leicester - Vardy

He'd struggle to get in any of those sides, but Burnley might be a decent bet, and Bournemouth if they sell Wilson.

With us he'd be first choice for sure.

I think he could get at least 50k p/w from Leicester or Bournemouth so our chances probably hinge on their interest not being serious. He'd likely choose Burnley over us too.

If he chooses Burnley, should we try for Woods or Vydra?

I would love Chris Wood at United. But they wouldn't sell him just because they signed Rodriguez.

Vydra wouldn't be near the top of my list. Decent wide forward option though.

I trawl these pages like most of us daily looking and hoping for signings to strengthen the team.

However, if a known player is suggested it’s either his value, wages or both that everyone jumps on saying it’ll never happen.
OR he never played int PL, he’s unproven or too bigger risk fort PL.

Can someone explain what type, value, wage demanding player we should be shopping for cause at this rate everyone’s excluded.

For a top-tier striker (in our eyes), I reckon we can do transfer fee of £10-15m and wages of £40-50k. I'm no ITK but from knowing us, that's what I'd guess. And top-tier in our eyes covers "elite" Champ strikers (e.g. McBurnie) and lower-tier Prem strikers (e.g. Charlie Austin).

He’s not going to accept £50k a week when he’s already on £60k a week. This ain’t going to happen as he’ll break our salary ceiling and other clubs will offer more.

I doubt he’s on that much. Maybe in the prem but he’ll have had a relegation clause inserted to take his wage down to something more modest if still high for the championship.

We really have to get our heads out of the sand and realise what division we are in.
Good players =good wages .
We have to step up.
Porridge too hot 🥵

It’s called Identity Denial

Identity denial is a type of social identity threat that occurs when an individual is not recognized as a member of a group to which he or she belongs. In other words, acceptance as part of an important ingroup is in jeopardy in identity denial situations.

Why cant we sign both? Keep seeing stuff like "rather sign blah blah blah" we only have 2 strikers..
