Gone Elsewhere Jarrod Bowen

The advantage of Bowen is he is a goalscorer. The disadvantage is he doesn’t play in any position which fits in our team or system.
Hull don't play the same system as us, granted.

It doesn't mean he cannot fit in here. Good players adapt.

Chris Basham was a midfielder who couldn't get into our division one side because he wasn't good enough, he is now a mainstay of the side playing as a centre half in the premier league, some players adapt, sometimes because of their ability, sometimes because of the management, sometimes both

Agreed. He had a whole preseason and half a dozen games to get going though. Practically breaking a transfer record for a player we’re going to have to retrain and is unproven in any position we play doesn’t make any sense. Less so in January where if you are spending big money you want players to slot into the first team or be ready to compete.

Where is Bowen going to adapt to? He hasn’t got the passing game to play central. He doesn’t drop off to collect the ball, he runs at players from wide positions and cuts inside. Wilder has said we’re after players for defence and midfield. Bowen doesn’t add up.

Apologies if I'm getting boring by saying this in several threads, but the unique way we play means pretty much any signing is going to need time to get used to it. I don't think we've seen the best of any of our summer signings yet but there is evidence that they're giving stronger performances when we do see them. McBurnie was £20 million but has only just started really looking like he can get close to justifying that price tag and I think any player would be the same. The advantage of making a signing now is that they can play a few games and help the squad but will be really ready to make a mark after a full pre-season. Our current position means we do not need them to hit the ground running and immediately make an impact.
Bring them in if a deal can be done and integrate them into the squad, and we'll see the best of them next year.

The biggest problem I see with Bowen & his ability to adapt to the Premier League is his lack of athleticism.

He's tricky, looks to have decent balance about him & can certainly finish - but at the top of the field (at least from what I have seen) you need a lot of speed or power to succeed (preferably both). I'm not sure he has either of these in abundance.

Agree with Bob here, we dont necessarily need someone to come in and hit the ground running as we are as good as up. Integrating someone into our training ethos and system now ready for next season makes sense.

Additionally Didzy is gonna be another year older, Sharp will almost certainly leave this summer and we may have found out Robinson isnt up to it by then. So we will definitely need one if not two strikers this summer.

CWAK will know who their preferred target is and I've a feeling Watkins may have been identified for the number 10 role but may be too expensive in this window.

Looks like L**ds are after him, according to SSN:

LEEDS SET FOR BOWEN OFFER
Leeds
will made a £3m loan offer for Hull City's Jarrod Bowen according to the Daily Mail, rising to a £15m transfer if they win promotion to the Premier League.
Bowen has proven one of the Championship's most in-demand players recently - and the Tigers have already rejected an offer from him earlier in this transfer window.

100%... i think a key strategy in the coming years for us will be buying in the JTW, to take advantage of training/2nd half of season/pre-season and blood players in ready for the next term, it could be important for our second season especially.

Sounds like their Dan James loan attempt again. It would be quite awful if Hull agreed it, pulled out late on deadline day, and scuppered their transfer plans...

You have to say it's quite creative from Leeds. I'd prefer them to loan him and then we buy him in the Summer for £15m. 😎

What I do not get is Hull are 3 points off the playoffs, so why would they sell their season for £3 Million. Plus even if Leeds go up, they only get £15 Million which is less than the going rate for top Championship strikers.
It makes no sense whatsoever from their perspective.

Newcastle to spunk even more money on their forward line because not spending enough on them in the summer is the reason they’re not scoring.

Incidentally I reckon this is all paper talk. Ashley ain’t going to be throwing another £20-25million after his £60m in the summer if he’s trying to sell. They do this every January.

The transfer doesn’t make sense for Newcastle they spent £20m-£25m on saint-maximin who plays the same position 6 months ago. Some of there spend is offset by the £30m for Perez to be fair.

Massively.
Some of these defenders we are coming up against now arent just solid, but they are fast, strong and all round athletes.

Think they know Zaha is not long for Palace.

At least they have some semblance of a replacement now.

Watched Bowen live against Udders on Tuesday night.
He’s nippy...good vision, but very greedy, often choosing the wrong pass or taking one touch too many.
Can’t deny he is a goal threat though. At Hull he’s the star of the side and gets to do everything...whether he’s the right player to or not.

Nicked by West Ham won’t be facing us tomorrow in the new independent capital of the UK
