For those who can't seem to work out where Bowen might fit in our team, I say this-
Our current system and set up is just that, current.
We often tweak the system anyway when needs be, West ham during the game, and Liverpool for the whole game where we surrendered possession and hardly ever got defenders into attacking positions.
Tweaking the forward line and tactics is what we have been doing all season.
If Bowen is as good as many believe, we will find a way to fit him in.
Sorry mate, I already replied before I got to your post, I could’ve just wrote listen to what you said to CaptainMorgans, it would’ve been much easier. 😁

He’s a winger we don’t play with wingers. He’s not for us.

Just another little stat to quash this theory, you have to be more than a winger to score 17 goals in 29 appearances this season and 52 goals in total after just 98 starts and 12 sub appearances for Hull City, that ain’t no winger.

Hmmm.....what to say about this.

Firstly, I don’t see us stumping up £15m for anyone in January
Secondly, Bowen is a good player, can put the ball in the net but I worry he will struggle with the step up much the same as Robinson has.
Finally, I’m aware of some concerns about the character of the lad, he’s from round my way and there are “one or two issues with his personality” shall we say! The kind of thing that is likely to come out at some point and would be fairly damaging to his reputation.
Before anyone asks, I can’t say what it is as it is likely undergoing investigation.

Mark Duffy was a winger throughout his career. He didn't do too bad for us!

True CB but Duffy wasn't a £20m risk and at the time CW played with a #10 which was always likely to suit him.

From what I've seen Bowen looks a top player but with McGoldrick and McBurnie able to drop deeper and provide a link to midfield, I'd personally prefer another out and out striker.

I wouldn't be surprised if Watkins remains as the top target and I see hom being a better fit with the Utd's style of play but CW will most likely have to wait until summer and see whether Brentford manage to get up before making a move.

Bloody hell that's a curve ball 😂

We utilised him to play in behind the strikers. A system we have sparingly used since we got into the premier league. Hence why it won’t happen.

Hull play with Eaves up front on his own in a 4231 formation and he plays as one of the wingers with Grosicki and Irvine as the one the middle of the 3.

His stats as you suggest are very good! Which is why he is so courted amongst premiership sides.
But unfortunately for this debate he is indeed a winger with excellent stats.

I dont understand why Hull havent received any offers for him as on paper hes been one of the top forward players in the championship for 2 years now.

Probably the same reason why Brentford didn't receive any formal offers for Maupay until Brighton bought him - conversations take place between the player's representative and interested clubs during which the price is conveyed and a formal offer is only submitted once everything is agreed verbally.

The Allams are a very stubborn family, dealing with them won’t be easy, they seem to think he’s worth £20m and will hold out for that even if it ends up costing them more long term.
Either way, I don’t think he’s worth the hassle that will come with him.

I see somewhere they had some perm and loan offers.

How did they get a loan offer? Unless it is a mutually beneficial swap.

Not for 20m. Any chance we can just borrow him then?

:D

The advantage of Bowen I'd say is that he's a very good goalscorer. And we can talk about formations as much as we like but the end result of to score goals. Even player from deeper or from wider he's got a phenomenal scoring record at such a young age and at a very decent level and that is for a team where he is the srnsdout performer already, not a team where he's also surrounded by better players.

I think he'd possible be the pick of the three right now simply because his output is so high and as a deeper option McGoldrick is the one into his 30s. McBurnie and Mousset have much time to kick on.

In 128 matches he's got 54 goals and 13 assists. So slightly more than a goal contribution every 2 matches.

For Eze, we're looking at 16 goals in 92 games and 11 assists. So a contribution more every 3 matches.

Finally Watkins, 41 in 121 and 17 assists. Similar though slightly behind Bowen and he is 24 in contrast to Bowen at 23. Eze is 21.

The choice of a new striker depends on where Wilder sees McBurnie playing
If he sees him as a deep no. 10 who could link things up then we need a guy to put the ball in the net.
No matter who we have he had to be capable of developing ( ie young) and have pace.

Nixon reporting that Leeds are in for him at a £3 million loan deal then an obligation to buy for £15 Mill if they get promoted. If they bottle it again he goes back to Hull.

Similar to the offer they've made to Southampton for Che Adams. They're well structured & calculated gambles in my opinion. Bowen & Adams join Leeds & they're as good as up.

Yup , local press here also reporting its Leeds that has asked to loan him .

If that’s true, a twenty three year old Billy for £20 million is an absolute bargain.
We wasted Billy as a winger imo during his last stint with the club and Bowen’s going the same way

Question is has the game developed beyond their particular “fox in the box” skill set? The top players can be a fitb as well as a dribbler, passer and goal scorer.

Billy was asked to run the channels previously, mainly because of his then striking partner, but it’s something he still does when he plays. It’s just there is more understanding of the role now, and as well as him being better at it, we’ve also got better players who don’t wait too long before releasing the ball causing him to be offside more often than not.
Out of interest where do we currently see Moose when he’s at his most effective? It’s looking in those channels on the break inbetween fullback and centre half. If you were looking at a player who played wide but could run with the ball, had a trick in them and a great finisher, how would that not fit our formation?
If we’ve the budget, CWAK think he’s a fit, and he’s as good as they say, let’s get him signed so he’s ready for next season.

Billy sharp has never ever ever ever played on the wing for us

The advantage of Bowen is he is a goalscorer. The disadvantage is he doesn’t play in any position which fits in our team or system.
