January transfer rumours

Darren Smith on Twitter says Conor Washington is high on our wishlist.

I rate him, he's a handful. Good athlete and all rounder. Has the ability to score more than he does. Would do well for us.
Good job he knows fuck all cos he's no different to what we have now

I was impressed by him when he played against Utd the other week - sharp, quick, strong and a handful. He's certainly filled out a lot since I last watched him

Not sure there's a direct equivalent within the current Utd squad - he's more like a mix of some of Sharp's, Evans' and Lavery's traits.

I think January transfer business will hinge on were we are in the league, and what areas remain week or exposed, I would Imagine a right sided player to cover Baldock and Freeman, at least one if not two in Midfield but players who would be able to except they would be cover until they can force there way in, I personally would like to see Ryan Leonard come in as he is versatile and could prove a shrewd signing.

upfront as people have said Cole would be a good option or maybe a loan from the Premiership, but again as cover for the players already in the shirt, hopefully CCV can stay for the season, and if not then that will be another place for re-enforcement.

I would imagine numbers are a factor too, we don't want a bloated squad so will mean either loans for fringe or maybe permanent sales for the likes of Hanson, the Ched factor could play a role in recruitment too depending on when they will have him fit and if this year is a little bit beyond him for being full fit?

I'd say he's most like Lavery but stronger.

I thought him and Idrissa Sylla were a handful, especially first half. Both good athletes who run in behind. Wouldn't surprise me if we're interested in both.

Who do we have now who's similar in your view?
Donaldson potentially.

For me, Washington is no more than a big strong hard worker and runner, not slow by any means but not rapid. Not particularly strong in front of goal.

No improvement and will be 7 figures, not worth it.

I’d sooner take a chance on Cole.

Your Sylla shout was pretty good too

He's a mixture of just about all our strikers but none of ours are quite like him and he's younger than all but Lavery.

His finishing can improve but he's good with both feet and has a powerful shot. They could easily start flying in for him. Bit like Ched in 2011/12. With potential new signings you've got to factor in the team they'd be playing in and the manager they'd be playing for, and when I do that with someone like Washington, I see a potentially excellent signing.

I'm quite keen for us to gamble on Cole too but for what he'd cost we could sign him in addition to someone else, especially if Hanson and Lavery move on.

Washington's name was mentioned on here last year. Maybe the Dazzler is regurgitating old rumours. A broken clock is right twice a day.

I've heard today that a loan move for Jamie Murphy may be in the offing. Would be a good sign of intent and would definitely offer us something very important. Murphy in this side could be sensational.

here we go. does he come with Michael Brown though??
amazing how players dump us for someone else.. can't get in the first 11 and miraculously become superstars when they aren't playing for us so much so that some fans simply 'have' to get them back again.. we seem to have had a rumour over every player that has left in the last ten years.. including Harry and Kyle.. ridiculous

--------------------Blackman----------
Baldock - Basham- CCV - JOC - Enda
------------Coutts ------- Fleck
-----------------------Duffy
-----------------Sharp ---- Clarke

----------------------------Moore----------
Freeman - Stearman - Wright - Lafferty
------------ LEONARD Lundstram
-------------------Carruthers
Brooks --------------------------MURPHY
-------------- --Donaldson

Others:
Thomas
Evans
Heneghan

That's a squad of 25 with two signings. I'd rather sign someone a bit more exciting than Leonard for that position but wouldn't be bothered if it was him. Difficult balancing act because to improve on Fleck and Coutts we're spending £5 million easily. Loan Lavery out to a lower end championship club if possible. Would he get games somewhere like Burton? Sell Hanson.

We'll probably not see any direct first team signings in the first 8 positions (inc GK) on the pitch, but I imagine he'll play around with the front 3. Murphy would be a quality signing as we'd be able to play on the break when we're 1 up or at tricky away fixtures. Our style of play is great but it'd be great to have more keys on the chain to open different locks as the season goes on.

Imagine a 4-2-3-1 with

Brooks - Duffy - Murphy behind a striker. That'd be good.

No rose tinted spectacles or grass greener elsewhere now that he's not at the Blades, not from me at least mate. He hasn't gone to Brighton and become a world beater...he was already a good performer before he left. He was proven with the Blades then, and has since proven it at Championship level and is now struggling for games in the Premier League. There may be nothing in it, but it may be worth a punt - he gets game time, and we add to our squad.

he was an inconsistent performer FWIR

I'd take signing Murphy as a backward step and a square peg in round hole approach

For a start he's a bottlejob who disappears up his own arse when he gets a bit of rough treatment and secondly where would he play ?

On the wing?
So we change the entire system that's worked so well to accommodate a player who may or not make a difference but the rest of the team might not perform as well in a 442
In the hole /free role ?

So Brooks or Duffy get held back for a player who oukdny hold a candle to their mental strength ?

It for me

LJ at the minute we could say that about any potential signing as its difficult to drop anyone.

What we don't seem to have is an out and out winger capable of coming on and changing a vame if needed. However Murphy isnt goimg to come here to sit on the bench

For me the player who really makes us tick is Mark Duffy. So I would say we need a player who can do what he does as well as he does in case he gets injured or in view of his age cannot play at the pace we play at all season. There is such a thing as cumulative fatigue I think particularly with slightly older players. The problem is finding such a player. It looked as though Samir was brought in for the role but has not made it. I have not seen any player as good as Duff in that role in the Championship (or for that matter in the PL though I don't watch much of that) but hopefully CW/AK/Mitchell can find one!!!

But Utd don't play with wingers. If they did it would severely impact the attacking work of Stevens, Baldock, and the left and right sided centre halves.

While he is able to play up front and in the #10 role, I only rated Murphy as a left winger. I was one of his biggest supporters even when he was struggling with a back injury which affected his form but I'm afraid it doesn't make sense to bring him into the current set up.

Rather than ‘could’ be asking that about any potential signing I think we ‘should’ be asking it. I think we should only be looking to sign players who are likely to replace what we’ve already got

Kieffer Roberto Francisco Moore of Rotherham? We love fake Italians.
