Quote from Trevor Birch in today's Star:

"Of course we are looking at possible additions in January. Like everyone else, we recognise that there are areas of the squad that are in need of strengthening. I won't deny it. Don't get me wrong. We are not talking about mad spending. Whether that be on a permanent basis or loans depends upon the individual cases concerned."

Has to hopefully be on permanents... for me especially in the defence, some young hungry players and hopefully some of the young ones we have will will get another nod, if we can't afford Reid but have the option to take him on loan till end of season, I'd be happy with that. I just hope we do strengthen, I know things are tight at the club but if we want to get away from the position we are in then they have to spend a little bit of cash, wherever they can free it from.

I'm hoping they have recognised that they have got to give MA the best possible chance of turning things around, but we shall see.

Replacing Ellis & Carver with just Cork must have freed up a small bit of wage bill.

It's the words he said at yesterdays press conference when Micky was asked if he had the boards backing in terms of signings :)

Not fussed if permanants or loans at this stage as long as it the right players that will keep us up.

I would rather have a quality centre half on loan until the end of the season(eg Kilgallon) rather than Reid if we had to chose one or the other

While it's hard to argue with that, there simply has to come a point when we start building again. For the last two years we've borrowed our way through the seasons and eventually we'll be left with so little we'll be relegated. That could still be this season, but unless things are done differently from now on it will certainly be next.

if we rely on loans again (something im sure the club said they wouldnt be doing, but ah well, when has that ever happened anyway) its bad news. we need some permanent additions, players that adams wants and knows will keep us up in this division and allow us to build some form of a decent side.

Im not usauly a doom and gloom merchant but i think what Birch was realy saying there is "Heres a packet of peanuts, half a mars bar and some pocket fluff Micky now go see what you can get with that "

He once got Bobby Zamora for not much more than that. And how much did Brian Deane & Simon Tracey cost us? Its doable, and we now have a manager who knows the lower divisions.

Fair point but im still not gunna old my breath. The thing that worrys me is he promised Speedo some funds for the last transfer window and what did we get ? Yep thats right jack s**t. You may say "Well we signed a few loanees" but has we all know a team needs players that arnt gunna disapear in a few months time or at the end of the season. Theres no wonder uniteds defence is weaker then a fat kids will power in a cake shop when 3 quarters of it will disapear in 5 months time and then weve got it all to do again at the start of next season

I hope the Blades do support Micky Adams so he can bring in new players that he needs to improve the team.

Must have a little left over from Speed's compo as Adams compo was rumoured to be 150,000.Ellis must have been on more than Cork.
Reid is off and Britton rumoured to be off ,that is money that should go back into team building.
