I'm starting to see some similarities with Hansen to darius Henderson, slow and gives lots of silly free kicks away.

Thought he'd score more than 1 goal after signing for us.

I felt for Hendo at times playing up top on his own picking balls out of the air with little support trying to fend off more than one defender at a time. Isn't it funny how he started banging them in after he left us?

Yep. Because silly twat Blackwell never thought of getting the ball to him facing goal.

We're unbeaten since he joined. However, we also won 3-0 three games on the spin since he's been injured. does it prove anything either way? Not really, all it proves is that we're a bloody good squad.

I firmly believe we would have done equally as well without Hanson, what frustrated me at the time was the 'opportunity cost' of signing him. He has done a job but has no chance to improve and grow with the team. I was disappointing, not in signing him, but the fact we could have gone for a Charlie Wyke for a similar fee who is much younger and much much more prolific.

Done a job and we should thank him for that. Would be thoroughly disappointed if he was near the starting XI next year though. Having said all this, I would still keep him around as a plan C, for 80+ mins when it's fee kick and corner time.

Charlie Wyke looked a shadow of Hanson when we played Bradford ,was very unimpressed with his all round game. Hanson has a lot more to offer both as a strike partner and in defence.

He's done well since he came but can he do it at the next level?

Yes ,hes the type of player who will suit a higher level. When at Bradford his best appearances and goals came against premier league opposition ,he will be a very important part of our squad next season. Look at the grunters ,they have 5 strikers on a quarter of a million pounds a week and they still bring on Nuhiu and he changes games for them. Diversity will be vital and Hanson is good enough to give us that.

For me personally we can't afford to go into next season with Sharp, Clarke, Hanson, Evans and Lavery

One question mark too many for me

I don't usually pay attention to contract lengths but didn't we give him 2years?

Not sure if you missed the home games against Oldham, Bury, Shrewsbury and Fleetwood games.

When teams came to BL and sat back defending in numbers we really struggled.

The Fleetwood match was an education. We had loads of attacks, loads of corners BUT never looked like scoring. The 0-2 defeat wasn't a fluke, we met a team with big commanding centre backs who packed their defense and we struggled. Fleetwood had found our weakness, no physicality and height up front.

Wilder was clever to bring in Hanson to cover our weakness. Also we were reliant on the aerial strength of EEL in defence. When EEL is out we lose his height but Hanson replaces him well when defending corners.

Wilder will keep Hanson because in certain situations he's a great choice tactically. The objective is to produce a winning team, makes no difference who scores or doesn't score.

I see your point. My main I response would be that, in 15 games, James Hanson hasn't scored a single goal from a corner or free kick. So, is his value at set pieces overstated somewhat? Obviously, he's only scored 1 goal overall as it is.

As I've said, Hanson has done a job. Has he made us a better team? No, would be my opinion. Is there any evidence to suggest he will be able to step up a level? Again, not for me.

He clearly can't play up top alone as he doesn't ever score. Can he START as part of a 2 with Sharp? Don't think anyone would want that in the championship.

However, as I said in my original post - I would keep him around. He serves a purpose. That purpose should be restricted strictly to the last 10mins of a game when we are either pumping balls in the opposition box or they are doing the same to us. Other than that, he shouldn't be used for me.

In response to sitwell , you might have thought Wyke was poor but his scoring record is excellent. I live in Bradford and, trust me, they are over the moon about the swap of Hanson for Wyke. They play better football now and he actually scores goals too, unlike Hanson.

There are millions of examples, but here's a thread with a few comparisons to'Big Jim' from a set of fans, who I can vouch for, they know their football.

Remind me again where they finished this season?

Was there any evidence that Wright could step up, or Coutts play to his potential or Freeman might score 11 goals - no.

It's quite simple for me. You either trust Wilder 100% or you don't.

The only similarity I can see is how he often gets clattered by two centre backs yet somehow ends up being the one who has committed a foul.

Not sure that IS a similarity to be honest.
In the case of Henderson he committed the first foul the moment the ball left the Hoofers foot and, once the ref had worked that out, was properly punished for the rest of the game.

When and where did this "banging them in" take place?
Certainly not when he was due to tear Div3 a new one for Orient. eh Houso?

I agree with that. Only Lavery has youth and pace on his side from those 5. Clarke and Evans are suspect with injury. Hanson...not sure if he'll be good enough at Championship level tbh.

Ah, Charlie Wyke, the latest in a long series of players we've missed out on. Go and have a seat next to Stuart Beavon, Omar Bogle, Jake Cassidy and Sam Morsy, mate.

I saw Charlie play recently. He was fucking Rhubarb. I don't give a fuck what a bunch of Bradford fans who "believe me, know their football" say or think. I do give a little cringe at the sycophancy of it, though.

As for Darius, he's "banged in" 49 in six seasons since leaving us. An average of eight a season. Clive Allen, beware.

I was disappointed when I learnt of his signing as I saw him as an immobile occupier of defenders

He's proven to be just that, he 'occupies' defenders. Nothing more. Nowhere near good enough for the Championship, I'd be looking to offload him and Mcnulty. Clarke, despite his seeming lack of enthusiasm has far more ability and has always scored goals.

Some games it looked like that was all he he was interested in.

Having a ruck with their centre half and then picking up the inevitable yellow and occasional red cards, must have been in his contract.

A very frustrating player to watch who had some limited talent but tried hard to hide that.
